My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
    Enjoy browsing!

I'd add that when choosing your basics don't be afraid of choosing a bright color as your basic. You don't have to fall into the minimalist hole of just black, white and gray. I've chosen blue, a friend does purple. Just shop knowing what color your basics are.

Here’s what I like to do: changing buttons, adding embroidery, painting T-shirts with acrilic paint, dyeing, changing length (works with everything from skirts to coats), taking several items apart and making a new one (I made flared jeans from 2 or 3 old pairs). I’m not into appliqué and trims but you can use them as well. Also if you have a sewing machine you may use some decorative stitching if it suits your style. Knitted items can be easily unraveled to knit something new. If the quality of the yarn is high you can do this several times.

When an item doesn't smell fresh anymore for whatever reason, it helps to put it into a bucket with water and some vinegar, leave it in there over night and then wash it. This way I have saved some otherwise perfectly fine tops.

I never really considered how simple it was to just change the silhouette or the general flavour of a certain piece. I've got a lot of very feminine clothes from back when I was in high school that I've tried to cycle out since I've come out as trans, but I could probably get away with wearing a lot of it with just some slight alterations. I have a very edgy sense of style so I can give my skinny jeans a new life and wear a chunky jacket over some fitted tshirts. I'll take your advice and play the matching game as soon as my laundry is done :)

I love going thrift shopping, because I always feel less bad about buying something new when it has been thrifted instead of being brand new from whatever store (also, because it usually costs less if it is thrifted). I am absolutely an outfit repeater, I have a dozen or so dresses, but most of them I can wear shirts underneath that can completely change the vibe, and I have a few different jackets/sweaters and purses to change the look as well. It also helps that my wardrobe is pretty much just black, pink, and a soft blue, with some reds and whites mixed in for variety, which makes my clothing really easy to mix and match.

I found that keeping a Stylebook (iPhone)/YourCloset (Android) of what I have in my closet to be quite helpful! It can take a TON of work to add everything that you own if you have a lot of clothes, but they have a whole planning section that lets you automatically pair together everything (in whatever categories you choose) and save the outfits that you think would look good. It's a good way to test out a bunch of different things and pair clothing you may not have before. It also helps to see if things clash up front.

I'm also learning that if I find a piece I really like to either go find more of it online or to trace it to make new ones later. I have a sweater I just got that I love the fit on and I am going to make a patter of the cut before I wash it. I'm sure I can make it in a chunky knit and get a similar result.

Also seeing you approach fashion in a timeless way is helpful as then I see it is possible, and you seem very content in not keeping up with the societal norms of consumerism-I think you've showed me a different way if looking at it and I appreciate that. I love layering my clothes to get new looks. For example taking a blouse that I normally wear as the statement piece, but putting a cardigan over it so that only parts of the blouse are showing. When I studies abroad and didnt have a lot of clothes with me, i would also take t-shirts and turn them on the „wrong“ side so that the cut out on the back would be in the front, offering me new ways to combine it with basics. I also often took dresses and wore them as skirts, or long skirts as dresses together with a belt. Nobody ever noticed ;)

Thank you for this video! I’m actually considering what I can dye or sew now. I’m looking for new, more permanent pieces as well. I’m in my twenties just out of college but now a mother. I have friends wearing micro outfits and partying and others in full on comfort forward outfits that seem too undone for me. I don’t really like either style or find it appropriate anymore 😂 how to be fashionable, youthful, yet appropriate for a mom is something I’m trying to navigate. There ARE some eco friendly and low impact clothing dyes. Ive used them personally. And there are ways to make ur own dyes at home as well, with all natural products...but u dont use those in a washer.
AND u dont HAVE TO use the ones that u put into the washer...u could use a big plastic or metal tub to dye the clothes in filled with water, and once ur done dying either 1.Dump out the dyed water into a rocky or dirt only area, with no water drains or sources nearbye, and that would do very minimal impact to anything other than maybe a few bugs...and u could even cover it up with dirt or rocks so no puddles are left. OR 2.Leave the water with dye sitting outside, in warmer weather, and allow all the liquid to be evaporated for a couple days, and then rinse out the minimal remaining dye onto again a rocky or dirt area.
I PERSONALLY have a HUGE area in my yard of rocks(a company gave us the wrong rocks, large ones not crushed, so we have a pile of them) and i just dye over there. There is no way for it to get into any water systems over there. And is very low impact. And ive used eco friendly and not eco friendly dyes.
Ive also used the kind u throw in the washer...buuut prefer the other way more.
      HOPE THIS HELPS!😉
