    I saw when Zac, on the hunting public, kill his mule deer the arrow specs said Magnus Single Bevel. I was very confused because I knew Magnus didn't have a single bevel. But now it's starting to make sense. This is very exciting. Now we need to convince Mike to make steel ferals to get the 150 grain single bevel into the 200 grain category.

    Thanks Troy im new to Bowhunting but my ten year has gathered interest and received a crossbow for xmas and myself a cheap starter bow. Ive been watching your videos pretty regularly over the past few moths in anticipation for my sons and myfirst hunt this year (I am a very experienced rifle hunter and never wanted to jump the bow route cause I saw too many injured animals in the woods due to bad shots or "Baby arrows") I really have no clue what im doing with the bow stuff but I do know I am going to order some tuffheads and some of these magnus heads. I have started the arrow tuning process and need to order some good FOC arrows for this year for myself.
    The high FOC is the only thing that makes sense to me when bowhunting myself like rocketman have a background in aerodynamics in the government space (not to the extent of him) I have already started teaching my son the RF ways and hes a big fan of you and the hunting public guys. I just wanted to say thanks for helping an idiot like myself figure out this archery business.

  • @darthvollmer

    I thought Mike’s stance was that Magnus would never make a single bevel, and that a single bevel would never be as sharp as a double bevel. I love Magnus products, and would have held out for these, had I known that Magnus was going to make singles. Great customer service too. Everything that I killed with a Magnus head died, within 10 to 20 yards of the shot - so unreal.

    the turning moment would indicate a correlating notch & cut angle, with notch & cut relief behind the cut, and cut presentation angled back to reduce momentum loss.
    With the horsepower of compound bows driving this thing, less of a problem than with trad bow poundage.
    And so your filing angles should be @ thirty degrees back from the spinning direction allowing for release of damaged dendrita on the notches impeding flow!

  • @Kurtdog63
    @Kurtdog63 Před 7 měsíci

    Funny how compound bowhunters in the speed world start staggering and falling over when someone suggests they get away from 100 grain broadheads, skip 125 grains and jump across the canyon to 150 grains, especially when 150 grains is considered light weight in the traditional world of archery. The first deer I killed with an arrow was back in the 1980's with a broadhead called the "Butterfield Brute". It weighed 180 grains with aluminum insert and had the same shape as this video shows on the Magnus. Arrow system weighed 700 grains. I was on the ground and buck came past me and turned hard quartering away right before I released. Complete pass thru diagonally centering the liver. Found the buck the next morning about 100 yards from where I shot it. If you compare this shape broadhead to a Zwickey Delta, you can see why the wider tip design has much greater resistance to bending on bone impact. .06 thickness and the single bevel completes the ensemble for the Magnus.

    @calfischer8627 Před 6 měsíci

    Question for Troy. I noticed that you have switched gears from being a proponent of complete pass throughs because it gives you a better blood trail and it does not scare the animal by flopping around as it runs away. I prefer a pass through especially when shooting from a tree stand so I get a blood trail to follow otherwise with a high hit I may not get much if any blood until the blood starts coming out of the deer's nose. Keep up the great work.

    Hey Ranch-Fairy, have you heard of Abowyer broadheads? They make quite a few different single bevel heads. Has the foundation ever tested them?
    I am in love with their 190gr "Antelope" curved head, its 2"L x 1.25"W. And although i would like to see them made a little thicker and of harder steel, I've never had the edges chatter unless the shaft gets buried in rough soil.

      @@RanchFairy well, it would be the only magnus offering that I haven’t purchased. I’ve done way too much tinkering, but I’ve stuck with magnus exclusively for hunting. They come sharp and always work. I like the idea of a single bevel, but the cost has kept me from buying and here recently also the weight to some degree. I think heavy is better, but there are no free lunches. Everything has a trade off. Also, I like to have a bunch of arrows set up for practice, and some with new or resonantly sharpened heads set aside for hunting. I practice every day leading up to and during hunting season.
      Maybe I should have left off the bit about my personal hunting setup and just asked my question. I wasn’t trying to come across as a hater. I was genuinely curious if he will make an option with bleeders because this seams like a good option for hunting at a known distance. I have four kids and it’s legal to hunt over corn here in Oklahoma. If I had to bet, I would bet on me buying these at some point.

      I would say if speaking about that broadhead specifically, 25 grains and a lifetime warranty instead of a 12 month warranty, based on what the sites say for both. The GS doesn’t come in a 150, just 125 and 200. Apples to apples really, and archers preference I would think more than anything. All look like good broadheads. I like the warranty difference personally and this would allow me to not have to put a 50gr brass insert in my arrows for hunting, if I want to switch back and forth between target and hunting setups with the same arrows. I like the idea. Can’t wait to try them.

      that's your responsibility to find arrows that fly.
      Not much to blame the broadhead companies.
      Look up "ranch fairy crossbow" on you tube.
      Buddy of my did a whole series on tuning bolts.

      Yeah I always recommend the Draggin' Deer you tube videos when folks ask about how to get fixed blades to behave on crossbow bolts. As long as your cams are properly timed, it is the spine alignment/nock tuning of your bolts that determines your arrow flight. Also, after you nock tune you need to go back and shoot through paper again with various weight heads to find the head weight that flies best with your set up. A bolt flying sideways (nock high or low) defeats the purpose of higher weight, speed, and FOC. If it isn't flying straight it will lever on impact redirecting your momentum.

      Yea, me too. My fletching jig and every single feather I own is left helical. And every arrow I've fletched is left helical.

      @fairchild6888 Před 7 měsíci

      You don't need left bevel heads with left helical fletch. It makes no difference. The fletchings don't create enough torque to make one lick of difference once the broadhead makes contact with a target/animal.

    How would these do on a currently 540 grain arrow build being pushed by a 68# 29.5 dl draw compound you think? Would push my arrows to 590 grains with that head but man those look sweet!

    • @RanchFairy

      99% of people are not comfortable with the 3:1 platform. It’s still (tested by ashby foundation on cape buff and Asian buff 2020 and 2021 with an 80# compound) the far and away gold standard.
      So, I will at least promote perfect arrow flight and much better broadheads that lean toward heavier single bevel.
      My personal serious hunting arrows have 300 grain Tuffhead 3:1 on them
      715 grains intimidates many people.
