Anthony Goldstone plays the piano.
Sarasate was never her favourite repertoire, so this is a rare occasion to listen to her Sarasate.
There's also brief interview before and after the performance, which shows all the characteristics of the young Kyung-Wha Chung - girlish, dead serious (almost a bit nerdy ;), full of fire and caprice, music comes easier than words, and, as you shall see, a perfectionist. - Hudba
몇년전 영국놀러가서, 런던거리에 'Legend Returns' 라 써있는 팜플렛이 온거리에 휘날리는거 보고 뿌듯하고 감격했던 기억이 납니다. 정경화 선생님 사랑합니다.
정말 그 깔려있는 차별적인 시선들 속에서 얼마나 이를 악물고 연습하셨을지. 눈물이 나네요. 강하고 멋진 연주자로 굳건히 자리를 계속 지켜와주셔서 감사합니다. 클래식 역사가 기억을 할겁니다.

Caprice Basque 여러 연주를 들어봤는데 이 클립이 제일 좋네요. 뭔가 피아노도 바이올린 연주를 돋보이게 연주된것 같고... 해튼 최고.. 수백번 들은 듯.

Ditto... at 57yo(4yrs ago) I set r&r, metal, trance aside and dove into classical. I've always dabbled over the years. Piano, violin and flute are my top instruments I like to HEAR during my day. My first ever symphony was Jan '22 at SLSO, Feat; Hélène Grimaud playing Brahms... OMG!❤🎹🎼🎶🎵 I crave more.
Then I find this magical performer. Her mozart stuff is crazy

I'm not sure if 70's was a bad time to debut. It was indeed a tough time for an Asian woman - such was yet unheard of among top notch solists. But by 1970, the old giants were literally getting old; Oistrakh, Milstein, and Menuhin were all over 60; Heifetz was to retire in 1972; Stern was becoming more of political figure by then. The Financial Times review on Ms Chung's London debut states, "Was Heifetz more accurate than this? Even Oistrakh and Stern haven't played this good for a long time"

She is one of the best violinist in the world. I love her play.
I think it's incredible the way she played the whole piece: not only did she show her passion throughout the entire piece, she even explored different colours and emotions in certain passages that other great violinists don't pay too much attention to. That one note at the end (followed by a small mumble of dissatisfaction, which is actually quite charming to hear in a live performance) doesn't ruin the caprice for me one bit.. if anything, it highlights the rest of the music which is simply amazing.

She is great, her technique is wonderful, the tone so pure and energetic. There is on YT a vid with this piece with Vengerov and the 11 year old Chloe Hanslip. Vengerov told his story about the piece.
That video rekindled my love for violin after a 20 year hiatus and I just (with much difficulty) finished learning this piece. Vengerov is such a brilliant teacher.

That bold review is on one side a compliment to Ms Chung's performance, but behind it is the anxious anticipation for the new generation of violinists. And the new generation will have they indeed; Perlman won Leventritt competition in 64, Zukerman and Chung in 68, and Kremer won Tchaikovsky in 70. They were all born in the late 40's, emerge in the international stage about the same time and secure 'the new generation' of violinists.

She is absolutely charming. One thing sometimes fun to do is to ask WHAT IF. What if Chung was this age TODAY and where would she be with today's violinists? It was a tough time in 1970 with so many giants and several superb young violinists that emerged in the early 1970s. But today? Would she not instantly be amongst the top 5 or 10 players? Even in 1975 it was competitive. After the first 3 or 4 top violinists today, it is wide open.

정경화 is entirely wonderful, my favorite since was this age when I was returning to Korea to teach. I think the British interviewer was also very good, warm-hearted with wit in all he did, and wonder if anyone recognizes him? It would be nice to know, from other years there, so thank you if you can.
