Why AC light is flashing 3 times, (Updated, read description for repair) Reference owners manual

  • PLEASE READ:
The intent here was to express that the owners manual suggest that when you get three flashing lights that it is normal. I strongly disagree but wanted to share the info to help other with the same frustrations. I have found that the Evap Sensor was bad and has now been replaced which has corrected the issues.
    IMPORTANT UPDATE 1/01/2018
I found the cause of for the excess moisture inside the cab, I fixed this issue and no longer have ac issues during the rainy and cold season. Check out this video:
    • “Confirmed Fix” Water ...
AC NOT WORKING???? I hope that everyone finds this information very useful although it is somewhat dissatisfying and also inconvenient.
I decided to make this video and post after seeing how many people are throwing parts at their vehicle and I have even have seen a couple posts were people are replacing the air-conditioning compressor and then having The very same issue of the air-conditioning not working after spending all that money.
Recently I discovered Some vital information on why the AC light flashes three times on many different make and model vehicles. Typically the first thing that comes to mind is that there is a problem with the air-conditioning unit, which in many cases could be absolutely true.
But after researching this issue I come to believe that many people overlook reading their owners manual to better understand the climate control and I have found that many new vehicles lock out there air conditioning compressor when either the temperatures outside are near or below freezing and when they are too hot and humid to allow the compressor to function properly.

I have a 99 Blazer, and I've had this problem since the beginning. My AC flashes and goes out whenever it is hot and humid, especially after it rains. Right when I need the air conditioner the most, it stops working. Usually it will go on in a few hours after the rain stops, but once it stayed out for 4 very hot and humid days. Chevy dealer near me is clueless.
I don't know why anyone would downvote this video. It is a perfect place to discuss the problem. I will definitely replace the ambient temp sensor and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice.

Fixed this issue on of them at our dealership, 1 needed a ambient air temp other needed a recharge and valve on the high side port. Most of the time if its blinking it's on auto climate control and the person has the fan on high..... hook up obd2 live data scanner read ambient air tempture out side if it's wrong then current outside temp then replace it, if it matches then have a vac recharge service done

Mario Patino I realize a lot of people are upset with this very common issue and I bet there will be recalls on newer vehicles. I was only trying to share information I found regarding this issue, sorry this didn't help you, not every vehicle will be the exact same, but with newer vehicles the working temperatures In which the compressor will actually function are very similar. this specific vehicles manual happen to specify when the compressor will go into lockout mode. You can try and clean your ambient temperature sensor. Also there are some videos out there to show you how to override this problem but it will eventually damage your compressor.

I have a 2009 Silverado that keeps switching from recirculated air back to outside air, and every time I try to turn recirculated back on it just switches right back. It’s usually when it’s really hot out. I keep the vents blowing on feet and face. So it’s not from the defrost button. Just wandering if it’s some type of sensor or if it’s an electrical problem.

OMG Please try and understand what you are reading before you post a video!! The manual states the recirculate mode cannot be selected it does not mention the button you are pushing !! are you kidding me or what? what is wrong with kids today with a book in hand and still get it wrong?

Hello, there is a recall/repair in the description. When this video was created it was simply to share that the manual states that our issues with the heat and cooling are normal. It was very frustrating but at least now the dealer has a TSB for this issue.
