Ah my dad's favorite game...well when he was still young. Now he is aged and cant do all the flip and gymnastic! xD. As a native Malay i am proud that this traditional game of my people are everywhere now. In Ancient times it used to be a sport for prince and royalties back in those days hundreds of years ago. After the northern Malay kingdom in the peninsula was invaded and conquered by Siamese army in 17 and 18 centuries they brought thousands of Malay war prisoners to Thailand and settled them there. When European travelers went to the Thai capital in 17-18 century they saw a lot of Malay youth playing this game in their villages. Soon the Thai took notice of it adopted it to be part of their culture. the terms SEPAK and TAKRAW are a combinations of 2 language, Thai and Malay. SEPAK is a Malay word meaning to kick and TAKRAW is a Thai word meaning basket or something that made out of woven material like the ball that are woven using rattan. Nowadays the ball are all syndetic and no longer used original woven rattan ball because rattan ball are tougher and European and modern kids are not used to hard ball like that and yeh it will hurt! xD.

My God. As a southeast asian, I never imagined this sport will be played by Giants and It's kinda Scary. Imagine Europeans dominating this sport. Hope this sport will be included in Olympics some day. Good Job 👍 to the Organizers of this Event. Kudos

Wow..this is how I played at the early stage of my Sepak Takraw journey year 93-98..But after a few month of intense training, I was able to do a rollspike & a jumping sunback spike.Keep it up!

I'm an ex state player in Thailand for Bangkok team. First I gotta say i'm so glad to see EU people starting to play this sport.
My a little advice for a massive improvement in this sport . This is how we train.
First the most and very important focus on your body and legs flexibility - try to do legs spliting warm up everyday everynight every mornning or everytimes that you have a chance to do it.. lol It seem funny right? but trust me i was laugh my ass off before but this will crazily carry a big big improvement. the more you can do, the more skill you will get and the rest will come such as Overhead spike, Sunback, Overhead flip drop shot, Power Smash Serve to Drop shot and leg blocking. all of us have to start of with the Gymnastic class for "leg spliting and the Body Flexibility to avoid an injury" If European people can reach up to that point Your height and Body build will be the biggest advantage.
my coach always said to us "Take the first step right and it will improve you faster"

European big and tall guys will an advantage in service and blocking. But to spike, lighter and more flexible guy will own the net area.

Good to see that Sepak takraw is gaining popularity. However for it to actaully popular to get into Olympics, some rules must be changed. Currently, its almost impossible, too difficulty to have a long exchange of ball. Its too difficulty to defend the striking ball. Thats why I think there has never been a ball exchange that lasts more than 5 times, like Volleyball.
Ngl that looks pretty fun even as casuals. Less impressive than what’s seen in Southeast Asia but way less intimidating to do as a beginner, looks actually achievable for a regular person.
Whole SEAsian people are shaking!!! They're practicing to prepare to beat us 😬 A giant playing sepak takraw
