- This video covers putting Stonecoat clear Epoxy Resin over contact paper. I decided not to record a video doing the contact paper itself because there's already sooo many videos showing it. We literally took our kitchen from BLAH to AHHHHHH! Lol!!!
Here's our order of operation & materials:
1. Removed all wallpaper with wallpaper remover spray.
2. Painted ceiling with white ceiling paint in spray gun then Painted walls & door frames.
USE PAINTERS TAPE!!
*WalMart*
3. Removed handles. Stained all cabinets & trim (without removing them)
**Stain: black
4. Added new hardware to drawers & cabinets (Lowe's)
5. Applied contact paper to all countertops
*3 rolls. EasyLiner for SURFACES found at Lowe's. We used 2*
6. Caulked all edges & seams
*Gloss White by DAP*
7. Plastic wrapped all cabinets, floors (very important if you love your floors, we are getting ours replaced so wasn't as cautious, appliences & anything that may accidentally get touched by epoxy.
*Brand: PLAZMASK PreTaped Masking Film. Amazon*
Applied Epoxy Resin
**Brand: StoneCoat Epoxy Resin Kit in clear. Found on Amazon
**Heat Gun. Brand: Prulde Model: PLD2190S
*LED motion sensor lights*
*Bith on Amazon*
*Regular glitter from Hobby Lobby*
As of 2 years ago, we are buying our Condo. The goal is to remodel and rent it out. I kept seeing in various craft groups on FB that contact paper can transform your entire kitchen for a portion of the price. Most videos talked about it being temporary while they rent & that they would remove the contact paper before moving out. There are even 'update' videos where people had it 1year plus with NO ISSUES!! I was sold!
After applying the White Marble contact paper, we fell in love! Our kitchen had been needing a remodel for years (we rented before buying), we were literally saving for it not knowing we could give it a facelift on our own! I'm a designer & in so many craft groups! I loved the contact paper so much that I wanted it to be permanent (this is where the epoxy idea came to mind)! Here's the thing, we have 5 year old twin boys! Lol! Even though it's not paper, I couldn't get out of my head that it's "paper" and used mostly temporary. I knew for a fact either my Twins or Husband would mess this up! Lol! We went 2weeks not putting anything on the counters or very light use. Even though it wipes off easily, I was literally walking on eggshells to prevent scratches, stains or whatever, which almost drove my Husband crazy!!! In the meantime I was researching epoxy! I only found 2 videos which didn't show a live demo of the process...another bright idea...record it!!!! And here we are!
Hope you all enjoy!! Feel free to ask questions! I'm so excited and LOVE the countertops
You may know this but:
Make sure you clean countertops & let dry before applying contact paper. Then, use a damp towel to clean contact paper before applying epoxy.
I knew I wasn’t the only smart person in the world who thought about wallpaper and epoxy resin why are we paying thousands from marble countertops when to exist and you’re allowed to change your mind love love love
You guys need some type of award for this. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this informative video. Yall are helping a lot of people with this. And it came out gorgeous
OMG you are so sweet!!! Thank You!!!
I am dying. I live in this apt. and the countertops are seriously horrendous. I was thinking about putting contact paper on them Then I was thinking about the paper being cut when you use the countertop. I sat here and thought to myself, well I wonder if I can pour resin on top of the contact paper. Lo and behold, I come across your video. Thank you so very much seriously from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. I am pumped now. 😄
@@vickigrimm6795 so sorry im just now seeing this. The contact paper is more durable than u think. Also, use a cutting board opposed to the counter directly.
My wife has been looking into a lot of ways to organize and improve our kitchen without breaking the bank. She told me about the contact paper and epoxy method and while I was skeptical, I figured she is usually the smart one in the relationship so let's look into it. She did a ton of research and came across your video and showed it to me. I gotta say, I'm sold. You guys did a great job. Not only in the work, but also in explaining it and making it look accessible to people who aren't always the most handy...like me. We ordered the stuff and will be doing this in the coming weeks. You guys and this video sold me on the idea. Not only that but I told my wife that I want to be ya'lls friend. You guys have a cool vibe! So thanks for the awesome video!!
Not sure how I misses this! Thanks so much! How did yours turn out? Also, we're on FB, we're actually Financial Educators. Check us out @Mr&MrsSmithOfficial on FB, IG, TikTok & CZcams
Have watched a lot of countertop videos about contact paper and a lot of videos about epoxy. Who would have thought of combining them? You two are geniuses.
Thank You!!!
I've seen SO many people using this contact paper and it looks so good until it starts to peel / strip. I ALWAYS wondered if epoxying it would work! Thank you so much Angela!
You're so welcome. Just an idea I had and executed in! It's holding up great, no complaints AT ALL!
I've always wondered too but was too chicken to try it for myself. I'm so glad I found this video because this looks really good.
@@anjanellbyangelasmith4002 any updates on how it's holding up?
@@JLricas holding up great. No discoloration, peeling or anything
@@anjanellbyangelasmith4002 can you show us a mini vid of it....if you didn't already uploaded it ...tysm

I'm so glad I found your video. The content was just what I was looking for. It was great that you and your husband showed the process, challenges and impromptu fixes. Most of all I love, love that you gave such detailed information, (full descriptions, products & where to buy them) in the description box. Thanks to you two, I have just placed my order for the materials. Thanks so much for taking the time to share! ❤️🔥
I really appreciate this comment. Thanks for watching! Have fun with your project!!
Great job , another tip as to not really get air bubbles is to mix more slowly
Thanls for that tip!!
Love it! Thanks for going out in a limb and trying it on contact paper and I am loving the glitter 🥰 very inspiring !
First, I love y'alls energy! Your instructions were clear and detailed. I especially appreciate the tips and explanations you gave such as which substance to pour in first for better mixing. Your kitchen looks beautiful and I am motivated to tackle my own after watching y'all.
Thanks so much!!
Your backsplash and your counters are exactly how I wanted to do mine I didn’t even think about the lights but I’ll look into that as well you guys are the best
Yeees! Peel and stick backsplash!! Thanks so much for watching!!
What a great idea. That’s a huge upgrade to the contact paper! Your kitchen just gleams.
Hi I was so glad I found you I have been looking at several different videos and I came up with the idea of how would it work with Epoxy. I’m so glad we had the same idea.I’ll start getting my supplies together thanks again
Thank you just heard about contact paper for countertops was looking on how to make it last and found this. Thank you again.
Love, love, love how your counter tops turned out. The glitter is a great touch. Your cabinets and back splash look amazing with your counter tops.
How deeply you guys explained everything is awesome! Thank you. 😌
Thanks so much!
You and your husband rock and your kitchen looks great! Thanks for this informative video. I think we are brave enough to go for it too!
The fact that you said Not to keep it in the bucket was probably the MOST helpful thing I could possibly hear. We're getting ready to do our kitchen and knowing we only have about 40 minutes or so to work with it and it All needs to be poured to keep from curing too fast was so helpful👌👌
I love this!!! Your kitchen is gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing!!
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT JOB AT TAKING THE TIME TO “PROPERLY” EXPLAINING EVERY SINGLE DETAIL.
Well DONE!!! 👏 👌 👍
Thank you!!
Awesome job! I'm so glad I found you guys and your video. I tried to find info on this to no avail. So THANK YOU for being my heros . I am going to do my own.🤗❤️

Frfr cause i got just the contact paper dwn ad its already looking wear out from me wiping ad cleaning the kitchen countertop..this vid is right on time..
Thank you. I just did mine and it looks good but because I have pieces I wanted to seal my counters to help keep moisture out. Beautiful job. I'll wait until my husband has time
Thanks for watching!!!
Ma'am, this video is a BLESSING. I am renovating our kitchen on a budget also (peel and stick back splash and the contact paper counter tops). Your kitchen looks beautiful so far! I had no idea how i was gonna do the epoxy, having -0 experience with it lol Thank you SO SO much for sharing.
No problem! Happy to help
Thank you for making a video on this topic! I've been scouring the internet looking into it. Now I just need the confidence! =)
You got this!!! I was super nervous and now can't quit looking at it!!
There are still some imperfections in the epoxy. You would need a sander to smoothe it all out. Then buff. This was exactly what I want to do. Glad it turned out great
Nice how-to vid. :) We have been planning on epoxy countertops in our kitchen. Originally we were going to tint it and try to make a marble look. Now u got me thinking contact paper. Thanks!
Glad I could help. They are holding up great!
Thank you for making this video!!
Counter tops look beautiful. 🔥 I just purchased a home and I want that marble countertop look. Great job
Thank You!! Congratulations on your new home!!!
Im doing this now. Thank you guys!

This is son helpful! Thank you for the detailed walk through. It looks great!
Thank You!
Omg THIS was the video that I NEEDED! Thank you!!!!
Great video! I just laid my contact paper and was looking for a sealing idea
So happy that we could help!
Great video! I did epoxy on my bathroom counters. I made my own marble look and mixed in very fine glitter. It's so awesome! The only downfall is after about 1 year it is yellowing :( so I am looking for a brand that WON'T do that. I read that the sun is what makes it yellow 🤷♀️
I love the idea of doing contact paper instead. Th as t would be less steps than what I did. I am wanting to redo my kitchen counter tops as well at my parents house that they just bought. I am saving this video for reference! ❤
Ooh. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for just confirming that you can do it!!!! 🎉 every google search I did , no matter how I worded it only thing that would come up was you can epoxy vinyl stickers if mod podge is done prior to pouring! So once again Thank you
Clever and pretty!
Thank You!
Do a follow up video, so we can see how your counter tops hold up after 3 months...
Thank you so much! I want to redo my kitchenr countertops, and there is a peel and stick I like but I'm concerned about wear and tear since it's a high traffic area. This is what I was hoping for. Thank you for showing that it's possible 😊
great job
I love it! I’m glad you made a video about this. I was thinking about doing this too. Could you make another video later to tell us how well it holds up. Please and thank you 😊
This is so nice I have the very same cabinets in my mobile home. I just saw some black and white stick and peel floor tile and said it does not match my kitchen but I liked it . I followed you here from the craft group. You gave me a idea. Thanks
Yay!!! Thanks for watching! I can't wait to see your project!
I love the glitter
Thank You!!!
Hi I was looking for a video like this we are about to do it thank you for sharing your video
My husband just suggested this as he uses epoxy resin for jewelry making. I am so glad I found someone who did it! How’s it holding up?? Looks beautiful!
Still looks great!!!
Thank you both I haven't found many viedos with epoxy over wallpaper countertops I'm starting my epoxy tomorrow morning. Nice job oh I found a trick from another viedo, to prevent the yellow staining that the epoxy gives after a while. I saw we're was a spray bottle with 91% rubbing alcohol was used after applying the epoxy. Im going to try it. Again thanks for such a great viedo
That's awesome!! Thanks for watching, hope your project turns out amazing!!
Thank you for your video. I having the same idea
Yesssssss I thought about this yesterday! 👍
Thanks for watching! Still holding up nice!
You can wetsand and buff. Also, some sort of vibration after application will help it lay flat. I think maybe dust was some of your imperfections. Wetsanding and buffing remedies this
Thank You
Awesome
Thank you both x
All my questions have been answered by you guys (including the bucket issue)
Your kitchen over all looks gorgeous, please let us all know about your motion sensor lights!!!
Thank You!! So glad we could help. As for the lights, they were ordered from Amazon. We put a list of supplies in the description of this video.
@@anjanellbyangelasmith4002 thank you again!!
Very nice. Like how you leave all the mishaps in there to show not only what to do but also pitfalls to avoid. In the end, it looks epic, like you spent tens of thousands on it even though it was probably only a couple hundred?
Good job! I was always wondering if you could put epoxy on contact paper. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for watching
Has it held up well? We are on a budget and I love this idea but I use my kitchen ALL THE TIME and need to make sure the durability will last. Thank you so much for this video.
I cook 5-6 days per week, multiple meals. I have no complaints. It looks just as good as when we posted it.
Ya did a good job, ive been wanting to do this bit have been scared
Great video! Same as you, I decided on contact paper and then decided to see if epoxy on top was on option. I only found yalls video and am so grateful! Quick question. Did you only do the one pour and if so, do you wish you had done another or are you happy with the one? Thanks!
Looks great! How does the epoxy look around the sink? I'm planning on using epoxy on my countertops and I'm debating whether or not I need to remove the sink.
I can't find other videos either. I wish you did a full screen video 😢 very hard to envision
Really helpful video! Thanks so much. I've got to do something...and this might just be it! Now that you are using it, how is it holding up?
Hi!! They still look great, exactly how they did at the end if this video. I cook daily which also means I'm cleaing them daily and they are awesome. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Can you update on this? Also, is it removable? Thank you!
I would think after the epoxy is poured its permanent.
I wish we had kits like Stone Coat where I live. :(
I'd like to know how this has held up since you did it? we have been considering doing it also, we just laid the contact paper down about 2 weeks ago.
2 years in, how’s it holding up? Notice any yellowing yet? 3 years in mine have very much turned a bad shade of yellow in places. ESP where anything warm was placed (like the air fryer and things like that) and where the sun comes in the most. Now I have to re do them.
Can you bring us a update on this beautiful project please cause it came out sooo nice.I just DNT like how long I got to wait to work on it lol..BTW I LIVE YALL ENERGY TOO
So far so good. We have yet to have any issues!
Thank You Both it is Absolutely Beautiful!!
I want to do this to an old metal shower stall that can’t be replaced from a small bathroom without tearing down a wall. I’m just wondering if the Resin can be done vertically instead of horizontally ?!? If anybody has any ideas on how I can accomplish that task Please let me know. Thanks Again for Sharing
Stone coat counter tops brand does have a vertical application process video.
Glad you did this. To help me decide if this is for me. The Glitter it too loud for my taste.
How has it held up over time? Can you put a warm pot on it?
I would LOVE to do this to a really unique hexagonal shaped pedestal side table I bought for $8. I found the perfect contact paper for it and would love to make it more permanent using the epoxy….
Curious how this would go if I need to apply evenly on the edges too? It looks like a hexagonal cylinder so the edges have a lot of surface area…
Thank you for this video! What was the sqft of your countertops and how much resin did you use for it? Also did the imperfections selfleveling when it cured?
Our kitchen is pretty small, maybe 9x9 if I were to guess. We used half of what was shown in the video so the 2 cups that we mixed of each (resin and epoxy) was enough.
As for the imperfections you can see them but they are hardly noticeable. You would have to be pretty close to the countertop to see them.
Thanks for watching!
I want to know how long it lasted? I know vinyl and epoxy don't like to stick to one another so I'm curious if it started to chip or come up or anything like that?
Will the edges flare up on the contract paper. How did you secure the edge ?
How’s it going with the contact paper and epoxy? Had the paper lifted?
May we have a update on your countertop ? I seen you used the art stone coat vs the countertop stone coat I know it was trail and error that’s why the glitter was added but how did it hold up overall ?
Now I can think of doing my bathroom sink
Hope it turns out amazing!!!
What kind of heat gun did you used and how careful should I be, I head it can burn 🔥the paper. I'm doing it but I need some tips. Can you list all necessary stuff that I need for the project. I already get my marble paper. I'm excited 😆🤗 I love 💘love 💘love your works
You are a life saver I can't stop watching and sharing your video.
Hi, thanks for watching and sharing. I put eveything you need in the description. When using the heat gun, hold it up pretty high, not close to the paper, that is what causes it to burn, this was our mistake (as mentioned in the video).
thanks for sharing! Can you say something about the longevity of the overall installation sofar?
Still looks great, no complaints
Could i use polycrilic in place or what you used?
Is it still removable after coating in epoxy??
Very informative video, 👏
I tried this yesterday but noticed several creases where the contact paper overlapped. Have you got any advice, please
Apologies for the delay. I didn't have this issue.
Great video, and your counters turned out amazing! Now that it's been a year, how have they held up? Did you just do the one epoxy resin coat? And did you send or prime your counter before applying the contact paper? Thanks!
Holding up perfectly!!! We did not sand or prime before applying contact paper, just a basic clean. And yes, only the epoxy resin.
How is it holding up? We just did the contact paper over the weekend and want to do the epoxy this upcoming weekend. Thank you for such a detailed video!
Apologies for the delay. Almost 2 years and holding up great!!! Look at other comments under this video to prevent bubbles. I had no idea.
@@anjanellbyangelasmith4002how is it now?
Awesome video, I just bought a house, built 2004, great shape but the kitchen has too much white in it. I will paint the cabinets much darker like yours and am getting the same contact paper design, in your opinion does the epoxy help prevent peeling around the edges and corners? I absolutely love the look.
Apologies for the delay. Yes, that's the reason we took this route. We're going on 2yrs...no issues!!
