- This will likely be the last War Thunder video on my channel for a while. I had quite a few setbacks whilst making it, so sorry for the wait!
I think it turned out pretty well, and it was a lot of effort to make. Might stick with the format if people like it. Think of this video as a bit of a send-off to my most least favourite game :)

Quick comment because this video is gaining some traction, (thanks for the support!) and there are some things I don't address in this video.
I am aware that Gaijin recently significantly reduced RP and SL costs for foldered vehicles. I am also aware of the roadmap and that they seem to be committed to following it.
I started this video a while back and didn't want to force that info in midway through making it. I will probably end up revisiting this game in a few months after more changes have been implemented and see how it stacks up then.
I still think the points made in this video are still valid, despite the recent update. Of course there are other things I don't cover here, but I wanted this video to be short and sweet, unlike the grind :')
Video in point, You need a life to reach top tier same grind nothing changed and cost of crew its so high You cant ace on top tier cuz You dont have SL, repair cost its still high... same crap...
They said they were fixing it but that was just a trick to calm the player base down but they totally just went in and said we would make more SL and XP but its actually at a bigger price and you are just constantly up-tiered where you are just target practice for higher BR vehicles @@firelienigma8704

Ive learnt inner peace. I play the game not for progress anymore, but for fun.
I take out my favouritely decorated tank, my t55-am1 and start decimating. Progress now is a bonus to me

yep, thats how ive started playing the f14b and f16adf(atleast until the 16C came out now im grinding). if i play to progress, i hop in my xm1 and play some GAB while i research the m1 abrams. lot more fun now that im focused on having fun even though its the same gameplay, lot less stress.

@@FreeMeal4You same after grinding almost all the countries to 9.0-11.7 ground i dont even want to play the game unless theres a friend online.
And even then i'd rather try to unlock some new tank than play 11.7 because there no fun allowed at that br.
i comeback to the game once and awhile bcs of all the video propaganda showing how fun it is, but what brings me back is my glorious spitfire
such an amazing video War thunder is such an unique and great game and it has a soft spot in my heart.
Also looking at the recent update it seems like it is going down the right path and the devs are finally listening to their player base which gives me hope that this game is going to be one of the greatest of all time
BR decompression is a must, now with r73 and mig 29smt you need to go to like 13.0 not 12.3

looks promising. but that's kinda what they've always been doing. try out what shit they can get away with and when people complain too much, they dial it back a bit making it seem like they're the absolute saviour and that now things are gonna get better - just to go ahead and then try some new shit. like some abusive partner. but who knows, maybe it will finally get better :^)
@@TheRealHIPER the whole lineup is compressed, 8.7 and 8.0 jets are also in a very bad spot, then you have 9.0 to 10.0 where you have flareless jets fighting guided missiles. Sabres are in a bad spot, bbasically any sabre but the american f86a5 szffer, becuase they are overtiered af, but you cant lower their br because then they would stomp anything they meet...
There in no good solution, you have to go from bottom up and move the bullies up until you reach a natural br limit, which ideally would be even higher than 13.0.
The last ww2 era plane is spitfire at 7.0 which btw is super high, but alas. and from that point on you only have 5tiers to go from 1945 to 2005. SAbre f2 which is 1950s plane is 9.0. from 9.0 to 12.3 is only 3.3br... For over 50 years of development during the cold war...

I have 3000 hours and have top tier jets in 2 nations (russia and Great Britain)
I’m addicted also, there is always the hope that I will get that vehicle at the top of the tech tree and it will be great, but it never is. It is always a disappointment. They lure me with the false hope of “the next BR vehicle will be better and I won’t suck so bad” but as soon as u get a higher BR vehicle, you go into the next BR and it’s no better lol.
Edit; to clear it up I’m also 10.0 in Britain and Russia for ground, I don’t just play air simulator.
I’ve played for over 2 years now and haven’t reached 12.0 yet but I have 9.0 lineups for 3 different nations and 7.7 for two others. Grinding this way has kept the game fresh for me personally

Man I am so glad that I broke the cycle. It fueled my mental health crysis, especially when I ended up playing alone. I stayed for the same reasons you brought up in the video, being very casual while having so many mechanics that its fascinating, no its addicting. In the end it felt like a second job, but not one where you earn money. I was almost 1,5k Euros and 2k hours in when I pulled the brake. I got help, gave my PC to a friend and started touching gras again. I never felt better, made new friends and got into old activities. The only thing I still enjoy from this ordeal is watching Bo Time gaming sometimes.
yea iv been playing sense middle school i have been an highschool grad of two years now but when i found this game on twitch i loved it eventually got my own ps4 and downloaded the game. long and short i got addicted played all the time met cool people those people moved on but i stayed even when i played for years alone sometimes i would find people but never really regulars they would come and go, i remember my first event i played i barley failed it even though i was litterally on at every second i could be to grind it. my mental sanity caved and i took a day off from the event and i barley failed the event as a result never again lol. now a days i dont have time to grind it per say but every now and again ill hop on for a match or two for old times sake haha

In russian community we say gaijin is commanding you to “buy a handbag” (“купи пакетик (kupi packetik)”), you know, like cashier at the grocery stores do, because the word for a bag and a pack is the same.
My favourite example of gaijin statistics is the survivor bias that nerfing vehicles causes. If a vehicle is made unprofitable to the average player through raising the repair cost and BR, the only remaining players using the vehicle will be the ones who can make it profitable, massively inflating its efficiency and in turn causes an infinite loop of nerfing

Dude perfectly put. I used to play back in 2012 before the tanks and ive recently come back and started progressing past ww2 vehicles. And the way you explained every single vehicle being bullied by the ones above it is the reason i quit again. You get on a cycle of grinding the next vehicle to try and become the bully just to be disappointed every time. Great video, first time watching but excited to see some other stuff from you.
This game is basically a love and hate relationship riding an emotion rollercoaster.

It’s crazy to see how much this game has developed. I’ve been playing since 2012-13 and I still find it hard to believe we’re flying F-16’s & MIG-29’s

Same. I'm always a proud wearer of my "The Old Guard" badge. I do miss the game in its previous form with top tier being cold war era jets... But I suppose reaching a dead end was inevitable and there had to be more content. As much as I hate myself for it and hate the game each day just a little more with ATGMs and F-16s... I do keep coming back to it and probably will for quite some time.
2018 was truly the peak of WT and you can´t convince me otherwise. Rank V was top tier and as you said, game is coincidentally ballanced only until rank V and after that the devs just gave up on ballancing. I have top tier in USA, GER and CHI. Though I really only play up to 6.3 nowadays, since that is the most fun, the most interesting vehicles and also the playing field is equal. No stabs, no thermals, heatfs is limited.
I thoroughly enjoyed that and it was the most spot on take about WT I've ever heard. Great editing style too! New sub from me 👏
This game is actually older than you think! The original incarnation of the flight sim and most of the WW2 planes and a LOT of the maps in Warthunder are from the game called Birds of Steel which was made by Gaijin (which I adored when I was little)

I've been playing this game on and off since the beginning. For me, it's always been about WW2 era vehicles. I tried more advanced vehicles but didn't enjoy it. Which by the sounds of it, is a good thing, as most of the complaints I hear, come from people playing higher ranks. I occasionally recommend the game to people but it comes with a warning that it can be very addictive and frustrating at times.
I find it kind of amazing that this game is over ten years old, and it's still fun (mostly) and playable. Gaijin deserves kudos for that alone.
I keep saying, the best way to balance the game would be to change the br scale for battles from 1.0 to 0.7.
Ngl this kind of videos are the best. Like its an normal video, but you can actually enjoy watching it, not like most of other WarThunder videos, where you stop watching after 1 min. It was pretty fun watching your video. Keep up the work.

Been playing since this game was Birds of Steel and it's been incredible to watch it grow and improve as much as it has. I looks pretty stunning comparatively and the damage models are *pop* noice. The thing I do miss this most about old WT though is people used to be better pilots in the WW2 aircraft. Now when I drop back to my classic favorites like the P-40 and the F4F-3 I get matched with little Timmy on his Xbox. No more 5 minute scrappy slow dogfights.

Should've mentioned the fact that it's possible to loose progress by having a really bad match, and that spawn camping is a massive issue in ground battles
Yeah I did allude to some of that. I had made a 5 minute segment on the economy where I calculated how long it would take to grind etc. And talked about that stuff in detail. But because of the roadmap I scrapped it...
I think this game is headed in a good direction, I might come back and make an updated video in a few months.

War Thunder is still one of my most favorite games to play still, been playing for years although I did take a long break I am nearly at 12.0!

War thunder is fucking horrible. But its so fucking addicting. I start shaking if i dont play it. I cant stop playing it. I get no enjoyment from it but i cant stop. Just one more match to get that plane or tank researched.

one of the best most acurate war thunder videos ive ever seen been playing since 2014
i started in 2013, took a long break, came back and played regularly for a few years then went reeeeally hard during the pandemic. i only recently broke its chokehold on me and it reminds me of all the time i spent playing halo in middle school, where i really cherish the time i spent with friends and it even gave me a really good friend who i wouldn’t have met otherwise, but i regret all the time i sunk into it (4000 hours total)

just happened upon this I don't even play war thunder but great video, great editing, great jokes, actually one of the moments caught me off guard so badly that I nearly laughed so hard I nearly passed out, just something silly, and I went light headed, kinda insane.
What an amazing explanation. I am starting to see this problem in the game as I'm trying to have fun in my WW2 era tank which used to be op as it was historically, now gets obliterated and can't pen a modern era tank from another tech tree on the same br range using rounds and armour the engineers of the time couldn't have even dreamed of.

as someone playing WT since 2013 and at this point having over 13~k hours in it and having finnished basically all 3 major trees (only partially navy and new vehicles of course) aswell as sweden, france and bri*ish on top tier in air and ground i can safely say i am still having lots of fun in the game and still love to come back to it every day (yes i touch grass daily and over the course of multiple hours)

I found myself falling for this game too! I love this game specially because I was part of a Bradley Crew. I started as the driver, moved up to become the gunner and ended as the BC ( Bradley Commander)

The amount of stuff that comes together in a basic "two players drive into their respective view"-scenario in War Thunder makes it such a unique experience without the twitchy reaction-time check you get in most FPS games (or stressful multi-task in RTS).

Low tier is def where all the fun is. I spent months grinding to top tier and eventually bought the a-10 while half off to help me out. I grinded with that thing up to the tech tree American harrier and I absolutely love that jet. But it is very damn stressful to play against mugs and stuff with missiles. I recently started playing low tier for Italy and I have really been enjoying the game again. Really sad I rushed through the American tree now and didn’t fly each plane as I unlocked them, but the cool thing is that once it’s unlocked, you can play that vehicle whenever you want.
