You're exactly correct, muse recent songs have been a little unimpressive on first listen (not completely! But because expectations are high, impact is lessened) but the more I listen to them the more I find there is to enjoy within them, and they get TOTALLY lodged in my head for days if I listen through a few times, this, will of the people, won't stand down. This happened with simulation theory for me as well. They're so unique and I love it so much.
Bellamy is a very talented composer! He likes to use various musical genres, instruments, effects, tools. He likes to combine rock, metal, symphonic orchestra, piano, synthesizers, dubstep, electronics, and classical music. He loves Queen, Chopin and other bands. And you know what's the best? The best part is that ultimately, when the song is done, it still sounds like Muse! In Muse we will find a lot of inspiration, but the sound will tell us that it's this band. I love them for that! Matt Bellamy said he didn't like recording two of the same albums. He likes variety. PS: On the Internet you can read that the next songs from the latest album "Will Of The People" will be very interesting. "Ghosts" is a sad piano ballad. The piece refers to death. "Liberation" is a musical rollercoaster. Apparently it resembles "Bohemian Rhapsody"! It will be interesting! Greetings, good man!

I think muse did something clever ever since black holes and revelations onwards which was to soften their music to attract new fans or enlarge their fan base, but now they seem to have turned the switch and said alright now that you are here listen to what we really are about..
