I spent my entire (70s/80s) childhood around here, back when _playing out_ was a thing. The Lines, The Cinders, Island Lodge, The Frog Pond, Scholes'es Top (swimming) ... all that :)
Me too. I remember in the summer holidays going out in the morning - coming in for lunch/dinner - going out again, and not coming back until it was going dark. I'd also go to the cinema on my own, with my friends, and watch The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, E.T, Ghost Busters, and I was only 8 or 9 at the time. Then they closed the cinema and turned it into a Halifax, and ruined everything. The bus fare was a flat 10p per journey for kids, and we'd go to Ramsbottom Baths or Manchester, or Bolton. And our parents would let us. We had a real freedom that today's kid do not. Sure, they've got the internet, and technology, but we had the great outdoors and imagination. I think we got the better deal.
@@johnthecloud I remember watching ET in that very cinema (I remember choking up a bit) I also remember vividly waiting to hear the bells of St Annes church to know what the time was, when it stuck 10, that was the time to go in. i went to Ramsbottom baths every Saturday, but not before watching "The Raccoons" But as you said, the freedom, it is something that has never left me, I long for those days of 'playing out'
Music is so subjective. A lot of these drone videos have EDM and that's a huge turn of for me. Something like this needs - in my opinion - Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending or The Tallis Fantasia. But then again - my opinion probably stinks to a lot of people.
