As beautiful as this architecture is and as long as it lasts, I cannot for the life of me fathom why no one uses it anymore.
Just trying to imagine how it'd have looked before all the houses and cleanly kept lawns were a part of the scenery. There were probably a few more trees as well.

Having visited this part of the world some years ago, I'd entirely forgotten about visiting the castle until those views caused a sudden moment of recollection. Thankfully, Totnes was blessed by very favourable weather at the time and the views were if not liife changing, certainly life enhancing. Definitely worth a visit is/was Bsbaconbe, Paignton and the surrounding area, Fawley Towers included.
William the Conquerer didn't grant anyone anything in 1168, bud. Unless maybe he was haunting someone and granted them a cold prickly feeling on the back of their neck?

Brings back childhood memories of the 1970s. Back then poor people went on holiday to Devon/Cornwall/Somerset/Dorset and we always went to a castle or two. This was one. Now it's rich people who holiday in the UK and it's too expensive ☹️ compared with abroad, anyway. Facilities are much improved, maybe that's why.

You should see, Bodiam Castle, now THAT's a Castle!
Tintagel is another good castle, not as well preserved but very defensible and legend has it King Arthur was conceived there. Pendennis castle is a good example of a mid 1500s coastal artillery fort, it was used in the civil war by royalist forces until it was captured then it was used right up until ww2 when it played a big part in Dday preparations. There are lots of cool castles.

Mate, if you got the money laying around, you might want to think of getting a gimbal or something else to stabilize your camera while walking around. Could probably make a lot of the shots better, especially going up stairs.
