I like it. Metroidvania always rubbed me the wrong way because that makes sense specifically for Castlevania's shift into this Metroid style genre. But to call other games that makes no fucking sense. The only thing SOTN added to the formula was RPG mechanics. Which does not seem to be a requirement to be categorized as a Metroidvania. A genre being named after its conventions rather than the first of its kind seems better to me.
They might look like "Flaming Sonic Rings", but those rings are most likely the same kind of rings, that Mother Brain shoots at you in both boss fight of the og Metroid and Super! A nice little easter Egg or callback from those days. Also, 4-5 hours in and it keeps getting better and better! Any chance you'll do a full playthrough, maybe with Liam???
i think her opening suit is meant to be the suit she ends up with when the SA-X parasite gives her the ice beam at the end of Metroid Fusion. you can see she has a semi-Varia, orange Fusion suit in the final part of that fight
17:10 I'm on my second playthrough and I never noticed that until watching this video. It's a really cool setup to Corpius that was really easy to miss. Love the attention to detail, Nintendo, as well as an excellent example of environmental storytelling!
you briefly see him again on the second visit after getting the charge beem sneaking into a hole in the wall as well, its a bit harder to notice as he mostly invisible, first time i just heard the audio cue and briefly saw something move around the hole but didnt make the connection untill a second playthrough
They sent EMMI because X can't mimic machinery. I know there's that mining robot in Fusion, I forget why that's a thing, but X work by copying DNA, and Samus' ship isn't infected for example.
2:58 Technically the instances of X-Parasites hijacking machines in Fusion were because they were built with organic components that were vulnerable to infestation The game does later demonstrate that fully mechanical automatons are immune to X-Parasitism

This is literally the first playthrough of Dread I've seen where the player doesn't immediately walk through the first door after getting the Omega Blaster and get bodied by the EMMI Myself included
I didn't, but only because I knew not to because of the treehouse presentation. I still got bodied by the emmi though, not because of going through the door. I just had trouble using the omega blaster.
i imadiately went on defensive mode when i got the weapon after i saw that the emmi was no longer trying to get up the wall so i stayed put for a second in a mild panic which was lucky as he just opened the door giving me time to charge
I hate this game, after all the years I have waited they bring back another 2D Metroid and now after I beat it I want already a sequel because Metroid Dread was so frickin good.
@@mothsnail816 it is in fact difficult but not necessarily unbeatable, ironically the fact that it's this hard is what making it interesting. I really loved the final boss for that stylish, fast, strong and hard as shit fight, but I still kicked he's ass after 20 try's and IT FELT GOOOOOOD!!!
@@mothsnail816 the game is hard, especially with some of the bosses and EMMI sections, but I wouldn't call it unfriendly at all. The game is incredibly generous with its checkpoints. Whenever I've died to a boss it's always loaded me back outside the boss room. There's no walk of shame back from your last save room to the boss, having to redo anything you've done along the way.
27:30 Exactly! I feel the exact same way about Other M. It feels really good to play when it is just doing its action-platforming thing. I woudn't even mind the linearity and lack of exploration THAT much, if only the story and dialogue wasn't complete garbage.

@@Brandonious15987 I think the D-Pad works perfectly for Other M, it gives a really nice "2D" feel while still being a 3D game, especially when the camera angles change while you keep moving in the same digital direction.
I'm not watching this until I beat the game but it's fucking solid. I have my criticisms of it but I legit really like Dread so far and I just recently decided to go beat Super Metroid last weekend. Dread is a solid, SOLID fucking game.

I personally love Other M, I think the story was great, sentimental. What people hate is the gameplay because "wii bad", but I honestly didn't have a problem with it either, now, Other M is not better than what the Prime series is of course, but overall it's a very good entry.
Monster Sanctuary's a pretty good indie search action affair. Though, it's less search "action" and more of a search "turn based rpg". That's also a monster collector. And every monster has their own customizable skill tree. It's pretty good!

The X can only infection organic things so sending the "E.M.M.I." should have been the best option for the Federation at the time. Samus Power Suit also has biological parts that made possible for SA-X to exist.
The bosses do crazy dammage but so far is not to a point thats unfair...its hard yes, but learn the boss paterns and you will be able to beat them, it feels rewarding doing if The Emmi's really give the dread name justice, the moment i see a door or even planning the killing shot does give me a true feeling of panic and dread All in all a amazing Metroid game, very fun challanging and scary at times, Samus never looked so cool and badass
Timespinner, not sure if you've played that but it's another good "Search Action" game that got me through the drought. It's pretty short but I was impressed with it.

I love her characterization in this. Both in badass moments and quieter ones. The story is considerably more interesting that I might have expected.
She's just so unfazed and used to everything that she casually faces an enemy with the 'so what' sort of posture

Since the central units are based on mother brain's design, this makes sense that they have rinkas and turrets.

The robot boss in Fusion used a fleshy brain as a CPU if I recall correctly. The X got into that and controlled the rest of the robot from there.

Boss fights are no joke real touch, but super satisfying to beat once you get the pattern down.

This game was an unexpected resurrection for Samus
Now that I think about it: why does this game have standard missile doors? You start with missiles, so they don’t lock off progression at any point.
Just go mark points of interest, that's how their used in every metroid game once you actually have missiles.
