Girl, I don't even live there and I'm crying! I'm so happy for you all! Your husband is one in a million. My Daddy was just like him - he could build a house from the ground up. I married a non-handyman musician so it's been a rough transition for the last 31 years. haha!!!! But I am happy for you.
Your basement turned out beautiful. When my siblings and I was little my dad finished our basement for us as a playroom. We wore out three record players pretending to be in an air band. As we grew up, we had a foosball table and an air hockey table. Then when I was about 16 my dad made my bedroom out of half that space and the other half was a lounge space for us with a couch, chair and a tv. So, your finished space with now grow with your family. Those smiles on those cute little faces were so cute. This will be a Christmas they will remember for a long time to come
That is so beautiful, even more so for the boys to see and receive the gift their father and mom put into a space for them that allows them to just be boys.
I completely understand your bitter sweet feelings. 15 yrs ago we moved our family of 7 , at the time, from. 3 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house with a playroom. I was so happy for us to have more space because we desperately needed it. But it was so strange to have the kids playing in another part of the house. I get it , I really do. I still get nostalgic for that period of time in my life. When all my kids were little. 🥰
We finished off a basement about 15 years ago when our kids were young but a bit older than yours. They had their space, and it was worth every dime we put into it. We still use it.

Well this made me cry. How wonderful and what memories you made for your boys. How blessed you are to have such a hard working husband. I could share how Lord provided a new home for one of my daughters and wonderful son in law. He too works like your husband and remodels and does amazing work. The Lord worked it out so they could purchase a $500,000 home. Never looking for that price range. Between making money on their previous home and the owner coming way down on the price they were able to purchase this home. They have my so in laws big family over for Thanksgiving dinner and have a heated garage and set up tables there. It was perfect. They love having people in and the Lird blessed and provided that for them. My three granddaughters each have their own room they decorated beautifulky for Christmas. They added beams in the living room and kitchen and redid the fireplace and painted and the house looked like a magazine and my daughter decorated everything beautifully for Christmas. God blesses hard work and trying to make our homes lovely for our families and for others. You are such a blessing. Love your family and loved this wonderful testimony you shared. Hi Andrea! More than a beautiful basement, your children are learning about hard work, perseverance and the love that you and Mike have for them. I was about your oldest son’s age and I remember my father getting up at 3 in the morning to go into a part time job before he went to his full time job. He would look in on my sister and I before he left for work and I would feel so sorry for him that he had to get out of a warm bed and go to work. I have his same work ethic (and my mothers’s too as she worked hard at home making sure we were always fed good meals, had clean clothes, etc). Their combined work ethic, their faith, and their love for me and our home all shaped my life for the better in so many ways.
It’s so easy to love a handy man. I know that first hand. My handy man does it ALL too. In 40 years of marriage, we estimate we saved $750,000 in home improvements and repairs 🥰

You could actually leave the tree up down stairs and make it a seasonal holiday tree, put hearts on it next month, the flags and so on ☺️
