      Hi Id love to learn black fur on a dog. I've tried different colors in black fur and at the end it looks like overdone black. So I'd very much love to learn black fur. I'm hoping that someone will come out with a book on pastel pencils techniques. A how to like fur, jeans, grass etc.

    Hi Kirsty, I love your videos, your art is amazing!
    I’m wondering what your drawing surface is? Specifically, do you work on a desk surface, drawing board, etc? I have been working on a wood desk, but there are a few notches, indentations and such so I’ve been placing a piece of cardboard under my paper. Wondering if that’s making things more difficult due to it being a softer surface. Any input is appreciated!

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  Před 4 lety +1

      At the moment I'm using a desk from Ikea but I usually tape my work down on a drawing board or wooden panel!
      I have taped my work down on foam core boards previously as well without too much of an issue and that's a softer surface... But it depends on how thick your paper is and how hard you press with your pencils because it can make it more difficult
      I would definitely recommend a hard surface to avoid any problems though, and you can get mdf panels for quite cheap from hardware stores which do a great job!
      Hope that helps!

    I just bought my first pastellpencils, Faber-Castell, and started painting. When you are painting fur/lines with the white pencil it really shows.
    But when I paint the lines with the white pencil it doesn't shows that much and it blends in with the other colours. I don't know what to do?
    Can you use soft pastel sticks and pastellpencils together?
    Thank you so much for sharing🙏😊⭐️

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  Před rokem

      I actually have a video that might help you! I talk about adding white highlights in pastel (especially whiskers) and what the problems might be if you can't get it to show up 😊
      czcams.com/video/kV8u19sNuUE/video.html
      And yes, you can use any soft pastel together (pastel pencils, pastel sticks, pan pastels) as long as it's a soft/chalk pastel and not an oil pastel! I sometimes use rem Rembrandt pastel sticks to get brighter colours/highlights etc on top because those sticks are a little harder than other brands so it makes it easier to add details 😊
      Hope that helps!

    Is there a list of all the colors you used (by brand name) for the second to the last example of fur and better yet a full tutorial for an animal with this fur using these same colors in your Patreon classes? This is exactly what I’m hoping to learn how to achieve for a pet portrait. Thanks so much if you get the chance to reply. (I have the full set of Pitt and Carbothellos so I might be able to ID them just from your video but the Pan Pastels are what I have the least of (mostly all the colors from their large portrait set) and would need help identifying the most. TYSM .

      I honestly didn't take note of the colours (this video was done before Patreon, unfortunately)
      But if you are on Patreon, I do list the colours in every tutorial so you could watch a few of the pastel tutorials of animals with fur (some of the eye studies would be a good idea to watch!)
      There is a black fur tutorial on Patreon specifically as well 😊

    Pastelmat paper is too expensive for me. I was wondering if you had tried pastels on Clairefontaine Paint On Mixed Media Techniques paper pad?

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  Před 2 lety +1

      I have not tried that specific paper but I have never come across any other paper that works as well as Pastelmat does
      The paper makes a huge difference with pastels because you won't be able to achieve the same results on other papers, unfortunately!
      If you are on a budget, I would still choose Pastelmat and maybe get a smaller set of pastels (you can blend them to make other colours) until you can afford to add more pastels to your set over time
      Although Pastelmat is a little more expensive than other papers, it's 100% worth it in my opinion 😊
      If you compare it to the cost of purchasing a decent canvas for oil/acrylic for example, it is actually quite reasonable for the results you get with it
      When it comes to pastels, the only supply that I recommend you purchase is Pastelmat! All of the other supplies (brand of pastels, blenders, pastel pencils etc) can be swapped to cheaper alternatives if you wish, but definitely not the paper as you just won't be able to achieve the same results
