And if you want to see a party that is preoccupied with victimhood, like all good fascists, look no further than the current GOP.

"Huge numbers of our population believe in a complete alternate reality. Alternate facts as it were. But just as intensely as I believe they are deluded, they think I am the one who is deluded. Maybe I am. So how can I be confident in my perception? It can be quite difficult. But I have found that in times of confusion, particularly when emotions are running high and creating tunnel vision, the presence of Nazis can be an extremely helpful indicator. If I am attending a local demonstration or event and I see Nazis…neo-Nazis, miscellaneous-Nazis or the latest-whatever-uber-mythology-Nazis, I figure out which side they are on. And if they are on my side of the demonstration? I am on the wrong side. It is tough to argue moral equivalence when I am standing next to a Nazi. Look to my right. Is there a guy wearing a 6MWE (6 million wasn’t enough) t-shirt? I am on the wrong side. Look to my left. Is that guy is wearing a Camp Auschwitz t-shirt? Wrong side. Speakers referring to things Hitler got right? Wrong side. Team-spirit face paint and hat with horns? This is an unclear indicator that could mean anything but safest to keep my distance from that guy even at a football game. But I can always, always, always, rely on the presence of Nazis as a guiding light through a fog of disinformation. Some things are relative, but evil and good are absolute.”

Saddest of all is how little all of this is going to matter in the end:
The lives of the people who died, the heroism of those who protected our leaders; the blind, violent hatred and disdain for law and order displayed by the attackers, the psychological scars left on those individuals who feared for their lives...
The knowledge that even senators who themselves could have been hurt or worse in the attack will likely vote to acquit Trump...that they literally value their careers more than their own safety...
The unavoidable fact that even if Trump *didn't* mastermind the insurrection, he still refused to even try stopping it...
The sense that even within the *very building* where our laws are made, we are not safe from lawlessness...
In the end, none of this is going to matter: because the impeachment system is absurd, and did not anticipate the overwhelming influence of partisan politics.
As long as an impeached President's party still controls more than a third of the Senate, he or she is essentially unimpeachable.
The responsibility for indicting, trying, and ultimately voting whether or not to convict a President should NOT be in the hands of Congress.
What would you do if you were on a jury, and not only was the defendant your boss--but you knew damn well your career would be ruined if you voted to convict him?
Senators should absolutely think about justice and the interests of the nation when they make their votes...but doing so shouldn't have the possibility of ruining them--that's an extraneous consideration that makes objectivity impossible.

How did the Georgia senate run-offs go with 2 pro Trump senators? They lost. My theory is Trumpism is fracturing the party so bad they'll have to start a new conservative party. Which will in the end make it hard for Republicans to win a majority if they have Trumpers and real conservatives going head to head.

Not everyone in the US is Christian. One of the pillars of our democratic republic is freedom of religion, and the prohibition of an official state religion. I'm not even sure from which scripture you take your religious exhortations; I don't think they come from any recognized writings I know of. Of course, I'm Jewish, so I could be wrong.
People like you don't ever admit to that possibility. You make pronouncements as if they are verified fact, rather than opinion. It must me nice to live with such certainty, and to believe your opinions should govern all of us, even those who believe differently. No thanks, brother. One of the greatest aspects of Judaism is the belief that you don't need to be Jewish to get to heaven- only righteous in your life and actions toward others. Yeah, we invented the Golden Rule.

An impeachment trial, while it has some similarities, isn't a criminal trial. The obvious point has been raised before that someone who had cooperated in fraudulent claims with the defendant wouldn't be allowed to serve as a juror. The jury also doesn't have the same rules of conduct, and the rules of evidence aren't the same. You'd think that the Republicans screwing around like this would be too embarrassed on their own behalf to behave like this, even without a judge to pitch them out, but they're not.
