    Congratulations to Nicholas Mee and Richard for one of the best clips yet! I’m old enough to remember the days when Victor Gauntlett of Pace Petroleum had just taken over AML and this car was featured in many of the classic car mags of the day. Like many kids my age I lusted after the ‘Oscar India’ Vantage and this one in particular. Sorry that VG is no longer with us but it’s nice to know his car is still around and has been beautifully restored to its former glory. Always loved that colour - is that Tourmaline blue?

    I would have to agree that this was Britain's first Super Car, but probably the last. It has the looks, the stance, the sound, the handling, stopping, power, elegance, luxury. Shame I live in Australia and really cant afford it anyway. But if I win Lotto, look out, I am on my way to get one and bring it back to Australia. Beautiful car.

    Terrific video and brilliant car. It’s too bad that everyone from Aston Martin to Jaguar to Rolls-Royce thought that the only upholstery colour was Magnilia or Parchment with contrast piping. The car in this video would have look superb with Connolly VM3281 Surf Blue hide.

      london man Interesting question but in fairness we know neither Richard’s personal situation or his feelings on this issue. And to be blunt, it really isn’t our business. This is a high value motor car of significant historical importance. I’m sure both Nicholas Mee and Richard will ensure that it goes to an appropriate custodian .

    Why did Aston Martin cover the grill up? Great car. Thanks.

    • @anridapu
      @anridapu Před 5 lety +8

      christdragon I believe the reasons were twofold; firstly the blanked off grille made the car look more aggressive and ‘muscular’ and defined the high performance Vantage model as distinctly different from the standard V8 version. The blanked off grille also worked with the aerodynamics of the front spoiler in helping direct airflow to the radiator for engine cooling.

    • @ingvarhallstrom2306
      @ingvarhallstrom2306 Před rokem +2

      Because they had problems with aerodynamic lift in speeds above 200 km/h. With holes going into the engine compartment (the grille) you get an over pressure inside leading to the front axle wanting to lift straight off the ground like the car was an airplane. The solved this issue by closing the grille and redirecting the airflow. Enough air for cooling is drawn to the radiator from holes behind the license plate.
