- At the start of every new Pokemon generation, there's always the choice of what version to get. Later on, the sequels are released, which are enhanced versions of the originals with even more differences. But just how many differences are there between the games of a single generation? Well, that's what we're going to be looking at today, starting off with Pokemon Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. I hope you enjoy!

I traded my Pikachu in Yellow to my Red version and evolved him. Then I traded him back. Looking back I feel like a monster.
Could've instead traded Pikachu from Red version and involve that. This way you still have the one that follows you and a Raichu.
*evolve
@@alexthegamingteacher8150 Thanks Mr Geller
Alex the Gaming Teacher did the raichu still follow u if u evolve it from pikachu?
@@leekoverde7718 No, only the Pikachu you receive in the beginning will follow and of course it won't evolve. The sound that a Pikachu traded into Yellow makes is the original growling noise and not it saying its own name.
NOTE: The Yellow safari zone will allow you in if you cannot pay the entry fee, however you will only have one safari ball. This was implimented so if you lose all of your money, you can still get Surf and continue with the game.

Craig Randolph yup
Beautiful, beautiful music. I put it to max volume XD
You forgot the E shop differences being the removal of seizure inducing move flashing, Jinx's sprite in Yellow being changed and the addition of Surfing Pikachu even if you don't have a Surfing Pikachu.
Wait what's the surfing Pikachu change?
150Gallade Originally you could only play Surfing Pikachu if owned a Pikachu withe surf. Now in the E shop version you don't need to have one.
***** Thanks!
Yeah, Eshop releases. For the most part I was going for version exclusive changes when the games were released orignally.
CandyEvie I'm glad you replied ^_^
What about the old man actually being drunk in the Japanese versions? :D
or the hiker being high on mushrooms at the end of Rock Tunnel, TRUST ME, the guys that says he has hay fever, is actually high as heck on shrooms
thats a localization difference, not an actual change to the core gameplay
That makes that whole thing make a whole lot more sense, honestly. Lol
the japanese comics had some really weird endings :|

As a huge fan of the anime, I absolutely loved my Yellow version!! I've never been the 'completionist' kind of gamer anyway, so not completing the pokedex wasn't a big deal-- I would never dream of evolving my adorable little Pikachu! ♡♡♡
fancy seeing you here
Good cos u carnt evolve pikachu in yellow
WHY HELLEW THERE
d prince I evolved my pikachu in yellow and was devastated when i found out Raichu doesn’t follow you.
I boxed my pikachu
Pokemon Yellow was my first time playing the game. I gave my Pikachu to my cousin and had him evolve it for me. He was lv 100. When I got him back his stats had gone down CONSIDERABLY. This made it seem like a punishment for forcing my Pikachu to evolve. And comparing my Raichu (My starter Pikachu) to Raichus from my red and blue that I obtained later that I let my roomies play revealed his stats were weaker than their Raichu's. So I think Pikachu in yellow version may have higher stats than Pikachus of other early versions to further relate it to the anime.
Is this really true? Can someone else confirm?
No, it’s just a regular Pikachu. The difference is when it is transferred to Gen 2. In those games it has a light ball which change its stats but not in Yellow
@@RayoMcQueen95990 Gen 2 wasn't involved. This was a gen 1 to gen 1 trade. It might have even been yellow to yellow. I traded him my Pikachu, he evolved it sent it right back. His stats went from being way higher than any pikachu that he or my friends caught in red or blue to way lower than any of their raichus and in fact lower than they were prior to evolution.
You can believe it or you can not, but it is a fact that this happened because I was paying close attention to my main's stats. I even still have the save file, if my battery hasn't died.
@@millgiass No, it was a Yellow to Red/Blue trade, or else how could your cousin evolve the Pikachu? (ik late comment but still)
@@yishivods Because it only restricts YOUR pikachu. Not anyone elses.
Thumbed up to see the Gen 2 differences. I'm hoping this becomes a series.
same. maybe one every 2 weeks?
third thumbs up as well.
Spoiler alert it never did
@@edxander7169 Spoiler alert: It actually did
@@voxelbugged OH SHIIIIIT!!!!
I think that red and blue had a big impact for the creation of the Red Gyrados...because if you played on Pokemon Blue on gameboy color, it would appear blue, whereas on Pokemon Red, he would appear Red
Unova also has 4 games
Then y is yellow included as yellow is a sequel to the 1st gen
K
[GB] Godzilla eh, technically.
[GB] Godzilla but they also have remakes and gen 2 kanto
[GB] Godzilla and now... I’m pretty sure Alola has 4 games.
One change you didn't mention, is that when playing the localised versions of red and blue in a Gameboy colour the chosen colour palette will actually change each time you change location. Most of the routes use a green palette, the caves use brown, and the sea routes use blue. Everything else is based on the name of the town you're in, so cerulean uses a blue palette, lavender uses purple, viridian uses green, etc.
The only exception is indigo plateau which uses a green palette when you would expect it to use blue.
I remember Yellow doing that, I don’t remember Red doing that. Mine was always using the red palettes.
@drygnfyre You may be correct. I spent the most time with yellow, so my memory of the other two might be mistaken.
@@TheRealSeiferoth If you play on Super Game Boy, Red & Blue will have the automatically shifting color palettes (in addition to the obvious color). It seems with Yellow, this happens on the GBC as well as SGB, but was also exclusive to the international releases.
Notably, I also remember Yellow having all the battle animations monochrome, something that's never happened before or since.
In Pokémon yellow, you can get the three starters by talking to three people in the game. They will give you one the three starters one by one.
Only when pikachu is at a certain lvl of happiness
Dylan Wicklund if you want a quick way to make pikachu happy quicker by spam using potions on him, even when he is at max health
You unlock the ability to get these Pokémon. Charmander, you just get. Bulbasaur, you must defeat Misty. Squirtle, you must defeat Lt. Surge.

Nice video and great research! But I think it's worth mentioning that in Yellow only, you can fish for wild Dragonair in the Sarfari Zone as a reference to the Anime episode "The Legend of Dratini", as well as Tauros' encounter rate being increased due to that same episode.
Blastoise's shell in red and green looks like a deflated basketball.
it really does (i said that in the super annoying high almost laughing voicelol)
umm...
"The super Gameboy is an add on to the NES..."
the super Gameboy is for the SNES/super Nintendo
Very informative - the one thing I felt was missing and could have been elaborated on, was the price differences for the Game Corner Pokémon. I know that there were different Pokémon available, but for the ones that were the same across versions, there were some crazy price differences (such as 6500 (Blue) vs 9999 (Red) for Porygon). Otherwise, good video!
The diffrence is that is a diffrent color lmao
I am sure that is a SNES cartridge not a NES cartridge
Just A Hologram it is. Idk why she said nes
didnt u see the annotation that said "Sorry I meant SNES"
there was no annotation when I wrote this
Just A Hologram kk
Just A Hologram yeah
This is why I love pokemon Yellow (ironically it's my second game my first was Crystal) it seems like a complete gen 1 game in my opinion, not to mention you get all starters too.
I'm pretty sure they also moved Abra because of the "Mew glitch" (though it's possible to do anyways)
I don't think that's why. They did not know about the Mew glitch then or they would have actually fixed it. Also they did not even move abra that far.
I think it was moved because getting an Abra that quick makes the game very very easy as Alakazan is very OP and will kill most anything once leveled up
Mike Rycc
Alakazam is trade only.
@@mikehikes710 The only part of the game affected by Abra's move is the journey from Cerulean to Bill's house. After that you can go south of Cerulean and catch an Abra outside the daycare!
The "Mew glitch" was not discovered until 2003, when data mining and being able to do deep dives into the code was a thing. Gen 3 was already out when the glitch was discovered.
Great video! I'm really looking forward to the next video with the differences in versions! :D
Very nicely put-together video. I can't imagine all the hard work researching and fact-checking all this, and then voicing the video and editing all the images needed, etc. And you do these videos for every generation of Pokemon games that came out. That's pretty impressive. These are awesome, bravo!
This says more about your imagination than it does the tedious work put into editing lol
The reason why Missigno is in just a few versions easy to find, is because the programmers where a little loose in their conversions. They changed wich Pokemon appear where and forgot to assign some to that right border of the Island. There is more to what makes Missigno appear, but that is mainly it. Missing Poke-information in that small spot and the Game tries to compensate.
Actually 11 total games included kanto- wow it just hit me how many that is
Oh yeah all the Johto games. That makes 5 and the Kanto originals is another 4 and their remakes is another 2 :)

I can't take it, every sentence spoken starts in a high tone and then ends in a low tone...
Legit, enjoyed this video a lot. Keep up the great work!
--what about green's lavender town music--
That is crepy
I know this comment is a year old, but the sound effect that plays during shooting stars on gamefreak screen is higher pitched in pokemon green. I haven't gotten to lavender town yet but apparently the music is just higher pitched. At worst it would just give people with sensitive ears a headache or nausea. It's just a myth it can't hurt you. Mew's sprite however, can.
Its nice going back to these videos to help reminisce the the times where would play these original copies in school whenever I had the time going from the original GB games to the ADV variants back in 2019 and 2022 (yes I took my gameboy to school and I never regretted it)
Excelent video Lucy, I love generation II so I'm anxious for the next part.
3:22 "Seriously what we're they thinking?"
Japan: The more thicc, *the better*
missingNo is in the Japanese red and green games it is called Ketsuban (けつばん)
I know but she said there was no missingno. in the Japanese red and green there is a difference
she said "the old man glitch" not missingno itself
Excellent video! I think you did a great job structuring the video!
Great list!
One difference you missed though is that not only are there different pokemon available at the game corner in each version, but the pokemon that are available in multiple versions are sold for different prices between versions.
This is the first video I saw by you it's vary good
You make the BEST Pokemon videos!
Please do videos like this for each generation! I love this topic and have been looking for videos like this for a long time.
Great job. Impressive research on your part. Hope you do the rest of the games
"that also made it so Pikachu can say his name" PIkaCHu that made me laugh XD
I hate how all these cod youtubers have just literally taken over all of the GOOD pokemon youtubers by playing pokemon go
Xoroful_eZ wait what happend? Mind explaining it?
Xoroful_eZ *cough* AliA *cough*
Once pokemon go came out, all the youtubers who uploaded COMPLETELY different content started posting pokemon go videos with sometimes very clickbaitish titles, earning them more subs than the people who actually were devoted to pokemon on their channel i guess? :P
Xoroful_eZ yeah, like OMG CATCHING MEWTWO HOW TO GET MASTER BALL
AliA is an example.
I stumbled on your gen 4 comparisons. Right before I started watching the video I found your other version comparisons. Time to watch them all. :)
I like how Kakuna's original sprite had arms.
This videos are awesome. Hope you do more gens cause looking up these differences or region exclusive pokemon seemed a bit annoying when I did it so I could complete my leafgreen pokedex.
can you get an eevee in yellow?
+Too Spooky Yes! It's at the same place where you get him in red and blue.
+Zach Galer (Zlectricute) I don't own a gameboy or red or blue
Yes, in the same way as the originals
I love eevee
yeahthats how I got vaporeon in fire red hes my favorite eeveeluion :)
keep these up!! love the concept!
this was great!! I would love to see more!
Can you do the gender script differences in ORAS
and the Super Game Boy is an add on for the SNES, not the Nes
Wow! Your video is great! This is the first I watch and I enjoyed a lot!
I hope you make a full video series out of this :) It was really interesting
Actually in Yellow we are still playing as Red know why? as your remember in gold ,silver, crystal we fighting Red with Pikachu lvl 81 his strongest pokemon so that means that we are playing as Red in Yellow
Yes please continue for all the other generations!
Really knowledgeable! Thank you .
Lucy is my favorite dingus
Lucy your voice is so amazing, it so calm and nice to listen to.
great video lucy! you always upload great content and never dissapoint
awesome vid Lucy!

You're the best Pokémon CZcamsr currently (for me)! Greetings from Brazil! :DDD
Am I the only one that have the bug that makes you cant change the quality (mobile)
Fantastic Version difference video for Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. I agree some of the Japanese Red and Green sprites are awesome. With afew changes the Japanese sprites could have worked. I have a question if the japanese sprites was to have been altered alittle which game do you think would have got them English Red or English Blue? I personally English Red should have got the Japanese Red/Green sprites and English Blue got the Japanese Blue sprites.
super awesome video and it was very well done, great job - earned a sub ^^
I have always liked your trivia videos, Lucy!
Hello Lucy! I luv ur videos!
Btw, which will u choose, Pokemon Sun or Moon?
Im not lucy but i'd choose moon
"Hyper Beam - Type/Normal - 25/5" Clever girl. Beam everyone down.
This is my favorite of your series!❤
Great breakdown! :)
I wouldn't complain if you made this a series!
I hope you do gen 2
Great video data timeline!
finaly a video that tells in detailed the difrence in the versions of a pokemon gen, i've bean serching for a video like this for quiet a while to know which version should i choose, expecificly for the re-makes of gen 2 (heartgold or soulsilver) gen 4 or 5, but ill wait till you get there, keep up :)
So which is better? Red, blue or yellow???
Irakli Gazashvili Yellow
Yellow
Wish I could time travel back to the 90's when this was relevant. And when Pokemon was more popular all around.
I love this video, I never knew some of these, thanks for teaching me something new.
Hey just want to let your all version difference are always fun and educational to listen too. It's fun to watch it again time to time once in awhile because it's fun to remember and relive the fun & interesting things about the games we love playing.
Always fun, interesting and informative, love it always!
Keep up the good work! 🙌🏻🙏🏻❤
How do you make your videos candy evie
Innocent Pichu it's easy...
Is it me or she totally sounds like the female version of Top15?
Nicely done. :)
nice!!! hope there's a part 2 soon ^_^

shut the fuck up

James Jarman I was going to say the same lol.

Yeah, maybe she actually did a typo on the script
I have a japanese version of all the gen 1 games. This is all true!
lies,
instagram.com/p/BGPUE7jLRTw/?taken-by=chloboshoka I have actually.
Dang
I plan on getting Red, Blue and Green but probably not Yellow cause you don't have the Gameboy Colour pallet you get in the English version.
yeah it was a shock for me when I got yellow in Japanese.
This really taught me a lot I'm really surprised I didn't know about the original versions. You should do Gen 2 as well! I'd love to see if there were any significant differences!
Great video!
You forgot to add that all the sprites got major upgrades in how they look in Yellow. It was a massive improvement. My first Pokemon game (and still one of my faves) was Yellow, while my sister's was Red and Blue. I loved having Pikachu follow me and interacting with him was fun. :) Playing "Bucket head" with him was adorable. And seeing him battle in 3D in Pokemon Stadium was amazing. Man I miss those days.
I have Pokemon Yellow and pikachu is super weak.
i find pikachu to be rather weak. You are better of with a jolteon.
Jolteon is the best electric type choice for 1st gen in my opinion. Jolteon has great Sp. Attack and Speed. Speed contributes to crit rate in the 1st generation and I think Jolteon is the fastest Pokemon in that generation.
I don't actually have a Eevee in any first gen game. Nor a thunder stone. So I'll wait to get one. Plus I can't trade because I have the 20 years of Pokemon 3Ds version. He's also pretty weak on X and Y but Colsplay Pikachu is very strong so...
I might be able to because it said in the desc for Red that 3Ds trading features would be acsessable.
yep, pikachu sucks in the actual video games lol
just has good speed, crap defenses and offenses with a limited move pool, it becomes utterly useless less than half way through story of the game
like others said Jolteon is far superior
I'm new to your Channel and this is the first video that i've seen from you
Great Video!
your voice is music to my ears
And the trophy of best version differences go to... CandyEvie!!!
Congratulations XD
Awesome, very informative.
