I don't think he ever gave an offer, they literally got the guaranteed and APY from saquons agent who was scouting the market, not the giants upper staff. Joe had no idea what the market was.
Giants were not winning many games with him anyway. He was also injured a lot. I'm ok with this. It's just the media doing what they do. Running backs are very replaceable. Especially, with a decent O line.

DJ has shown signs of not being a total meathead and getting the ball out quick. I think this year with a solid 4 lineman and one meh guy he could get an extra second to process and find Nabers & Hyatt quickly and get the ball to them.
With Singletary and Co. chipping on whoever Neal is letting by it could work out.

it's funny. They went to the playoffs, beat Minny. Daboll wins Coach of the Year, Schoen is called the new young star. Now they're all idiots. Is that typical or what? They needed to fill spots, they did. They weren't left with enough to sign Saquon, who, going by his career, could be a top 3 RB, or could just as likely be injured in Week 3 and miss the rest of the season. We'll see.

What really screwed the Giants was overachieving in 2022 and winning a playoff game. If they cut loose from Jones and Barkley then, fans go crazy. They felt stuck and probably thought that getting more talent for Jones (Waller) and another season with Daboll, they would be better. Jones gets hurt, Waller was a bad trade.
Same thing happened with the Bills in 2017, they tried to suck, but overachieved with Tyrod Taylor - luckily they figured out a way to get down to the 7th pick to get Allen in 2018. That’s the difference in when the Bills pivoted and the Giants didn’t. The Bills knew the limitations of Taylor and the Giants knew that of Jones as well. They shouldn’t have re-signed Jones - Knowing the ‘24 draft was filled with QBs, and not taking one, screwed them again. They now have Jones without Barkley. They messed up.
They’re trying to win now and will probably win 8-9 games and be stuck with a middle range 1st rd pick.
I understand how they got into this dilemma - just don’t think they know how to get out of it.
We handled it very well. Our total offer was 25 Eagles offered a guaranteed 26. We weren’t gonna win a bidding war. So we pivot to being a true passing offense
I’m sad Saquan is gone. And angry we allow him to go to our our rival Eagles smh. But we need a strong O-line to protect Jones. Our O-line has been trash for years now. All the focus has to be building that.

This show can unfairly either make a teams front office look great or terrible. I will say it's my favorite hard knocks so far though. The offseason is such a chess game
I love Saquon but as a Giants fan I got tired of him being arm tackled, not being able to shake 1 defender, constantly failing to pick up must have 2 yards, and inability to pick up a blitz. When he had Eli and O'Dell, he was elite... but after the injury he just never got back to being great. Eagles are a better team and probably a better match. I am excited to see him with a better offense... but I'm not scared if the Eagles having him.
No one wants to hear it but it just doesn't make sense to put extra money into a RB when you can put it into your O-line. Todd Gurley, Elliot, & Le'veon Bell buried the market forever.
On the contrary, I've gone from dissing the Giants at every turn to now having some respect for them. 100%, unequivocally, this team's BIGGEST need was o-line, so hearing the GM and coaches talk about that being their top priority gave me more confidence in the Giants turnaround. Makes no sense to spend big bucks on Saquon when you have so many needs all over the place. Now, if they go 3-14, well, maybe they should've done it differently 😅
They spent the money they saved from letting Saquon & McKinney walk on Oline & pass rush. That's a smart investment. Only the jabroni casuals don't understand positional value.

As a former athlete in hockey, I disagree here, respectfully.
The GM, has the right, to consult with the owner and outline a conversation that states we no longer see you as our asset, you will be entering free agency, but no offer will come in to match you.
The GM & Owner, had a completely different message to him. They did not want to insult him by offering $12M over 3 years & it would have also made the PR look bad considering he’s carried the team offensively since being drafted.
With that said, they were not about to pay $15M a season not knowing if he was worth that risk, in the market. He’s already above 27 years old, and running backs break down in the knees and synovial fluid begins to decline which is what lubricants the joints naturally so you are mobile and less prone to injury and arthritis.
Their entire franchise rests on keeping Daniel’s safe from injury. They have $40M a season tied to him… so now they have to cut ties with their running back, to spend on protecting the front line QB.
Giants are still feeling the effects from Gettleman. You dont draft a rb in the 1st. Then, reach for a questionable qb. Its not 100% fair to Schoen. He inherited most of this.
The Giants GM was playing that situation from the perspective of his personal grudge. Saquan didn’t take the offers he gave him the year before, so he didn’t even want to bargain anymore.

How did they look terrible? They gave him a great offer the year before. He had another year of injurys and is at the very risky position to bet on. They told him to go see what he’s worth and come back with the number. They handled it like professionals. Constantly making sure Barkley knew he was wanted back. It was very clear saquan didn’t want to come back.
As a Giants fan, I hated to see Saquon leave, but clearly he can’t carry the team alone. They have added a lot of needed talent. Hopefully the additions will make a difference.

The Giants have had one of the worst front offices, easily for the last 20 years.. No draft pick hits, bust after bust on the line, DANIEL JONES.. I mean all we’re getting is an inside look on them being horrible
