So much information has been shared and yet so much still hidden to keep it away from the competitors. Beautifully crafted video
i sometimes ask myself how the F they can show so much be so transparent about stuff they do but still be hidding informations. it blows me mind
Probably an older gen of the package. Did not see the previous video so its all just my opinion but I figured they are showing a older gen that has already been seen in the garage or a crash or whatever by the competition
As a tech at a Ford dealer that works on Hybrids and EV cars... I love seeing this technology on the race cars talked about. I have always been interested in the F1 cars technology and pushing the limits.
I love learning about all this tech in this cars. As I watch these videos, I wish you guys go deeper into the tech and that's my nerdy tech mind speaking but I understand why not.
Keep on with the series, it's great.
WOW beautifully explained !!! Thank you Mercedes !!! Hope to see you on F1 top again very soon !!!!
The musical score is giving me hard Ridge Racer Type R vibes. Love it! Great video, Mercedes.
This series is super cool, keep on! thnx !
GREAT!!!
GREETINGS from CABO VERDE ISLANDS ;-)
CHEERS
Not sure if you guys read this, but I've always wondered about the wheel bearing on F1 cars. How hot do they get? What type are they? Are they made loose and tighten up when hot? Are they shielded from brake temperature?
Thank you these are awesome - now after the power controls we really want to start seeing series 102. More please!
Amazing
These are useful for people to watch and consider a career in engineering if they find it interesting
It also helps us to understand better what has happened when they say certain parts have broke
I find these videos extremely interesting but have zero interest in engineering itself. People should never just watch a video and say this is what I like. It's important to be realistic and actually job shadow with actual real world experience as to what the job entails to decide if one is interested in pursuing a career in any field.
@@carcrazyguysa4059 yeah but to be able to job shadow you need to convince the person that you’re interested in the job and have some background knowledge. If you can talk to an engineer about this kind of thing you’ll show your interest and convey enthusiasm. I don’t see how this has zero interest in engineering itself? The guy presenting is an engineer lmao.
@@Jonpoo1 LOL I think you misunderstood me, I meant I as in me, have zero interest in engineering.
I just like these kind of videos but it doesn't mean I want to be an engineer.
It's crazy that such a small unit can produce so much power!
especially since it’s limited to 120kW, so it likely can produce a bit more
keep going team
Can you make a video to explain how a driver changes differential on a car? Like how it works physically
Oooo, this please
By changing the pressing force on the friction plates of the differential, pretty simple.
Mo powa babeh!!
❤️❤️❤️
I wonder how much the MGU-K COULD provide, when not under the 120kW regulation 🤔
i also wonder how much heavier it will get when they are allowed to produce 350kW in 2026.
I like the information about MGUK it is know as a engrey power unit for the braking in an F1 car 🏎 🚗 engine hear it FIA video 📹 about thank you Mercedes.
I have a question, is the efficiency of the system either acting as generator and motor unit the same?
A order of magnitude of this efficiency is it also available?
While a driver is applying the brake during corner entry, the throttle is at zero percent, but the internal combustion engine is still revving at a lower RPM or nearing idle. In a non-hybrid race/road car the unused energy from the rotating crankshaft within the ICE would typically be wasted during a braking phase. The MGU-K rotor and stator system "captures" this "wasted" rotational kinetic energy from the crankshaft and power cables take the captured energy (electricity) to the energy store. On throttle, the MGU-K draws electricity from the energy store and energises the stator spinning the rotor, which in turn adds additional rotational energy "torque" to the crankshaft>gearbox>driveshaft>rear wheels.
Brasil 🇧🇷
Thanks for the info! Just a curious question, it seems the mgu-k is attached to the rear wheels hence during brake is could only harvest part of the kinetic energy as most brake force is applied on the front. Is there a way to avoid such loss?
The rule only allow rear wheel drive and 2MJ of energy harvesting per lap. Most kinetic energy must be wasted.
when will you show us prechamber jet ignition?
👍

Win the race pls
Need a serious update for next year's car all the parts
I'm just wondering if it has a single ratio between crank RPM and MGU-K RPM or is there something like a CVT to keep it spinning at its most efficient RPM.
I do also get that a CVT would in itself reduce the efficiency at a certain ratio and the mass and reliability concerns probably nullify any benefit as well as not really knowing the rules around this, it could well be illegal for all I know.
It’s just a constant ratio. Unlike internal combustion engines, electric motors are effective over quite a wide range of speeds, so there is no need to try and keep it in a sweet spot. Also, since it is directly connected to the ICE (rather than the gearbox or wheels), it’s easy to ensure that the electric motor is at its ideal speed when the ICE is also around its sweet spot.
The rule only permit constaint ratio.
can you use more than 1 mgu-k simultaneously?
In theory, yes. Within the current F1 regulations, no. Also I suspect that one bigger MGU is more effective, and certainly lighter, than two smaller ones.
Thats PogChamp . Can we upgrade to V12 engine now? ZULUL
So we are talking about a separately excited dc motor?
What does the U,W,V stand for on the side of the unit?
U, V, W are common markings for the electric connections on a 3 phase motor; so I'd assume that's what it's for.
@@gbspikyfish that's what I figured. That's what the letters are for. But it still doesn't answer what the letters stand for. If that makes sense.
@@dodaexploda good question. I've never read anything that gives a reason for the use of those letters, or if they have a specific meaning (other than the fact it's just three consecutive letters in the alphabet).
Increadible energy involved in something so small.
Do you mean a maximum or minimum of 7kg?
Minimum. The FIA and competitor teams would have no complaint about Mercedes building an engine that was heavier than it needs to be!
Ok but how does it not overspeed the engine or the gearbox. Say if the engine is at 12,000 RPM and the MGU-H spins at 10,000 RPM to discharge then how doesn't that interfere with the engine's running?
50,000 rev per minute, the human mind can't get their head round it!!!!! unbelievable.
Ferrari: QUICK TAKE NOTES.
Hope w14 have more power
First
I thought the kinetic energy dissipated through the brakes raising temperature (thermal energy), how is is possible to convert that energy in mechanical energy (torque to the generator) providing electrical energy? Is it mechanically connected directly to the braking system?
It's connected to the rear wheels, so if used as a generator it will provide a braking force as torque is required to make it spin. Essentially - put electrical energy into the MGU-K and it'll provide additional torque to the rear wheels, use it to generate electrical energy from the spinning rear wheels and it'll provide a braking force (torque) to the rear wheels.
In an ideal world, teams would be able to harvest from the front wheels too, but that's not allowed under the current rules.
@@gbspikyfish I didn't asked this, that reply was obvious from the video explanation. Also it is said that MGU-K is mechanically linked to the front section of the crankshaft to provide the extra torque not directly to the rear axle. I repeat the question, what is with the mechanical device or mechanism able to convert the thermal energy from braking to a torque to the MGU-K acting as generator unit?
@@andreabianchini53 whilst you could use the MGU-K to provide torque to the engine with the engine disconnected from the gearbox, the point is providing torque through the crankshaft, the gearbox, and ultimately the rear axle - so for the purposes of its use it's connected directly to the rear axle. As for converting thermal energy from braking; as far as I know there is no such technology on an F1 car. Even the MGU-H (Heat) is actually harvesting kinetic energy (the spinning of the turbo).
Nothing is harvesting heat from the brakes. Instead, this is like “engine braking” - the rear wheels are slowed down not by the brake pads, but instead by having to push the crankshaft, and thus the MGU-K, round. Of course this creates another challenge, since there are three methods of slowing the car - front brake pads, rear brake pads, engine braking via the MGU-K - and these have to be balanced to keep the car stable under all braking conditions while still harvesting the maximum energy through the MGU-K.
@@andreabianchini53 When a motor works in generator mode, it creates drag on its shaft.

Looks like something you could pick up at the local auto parts store 😁
And install yourself in a few minutes?
The MGU-H can power the MGU-K!?
Yes, and the power transfer between MGU-H and MGU-K is unlimited.
Nothing can match Redbullshit’s
Overspend-OK technology.
Please increase that power by another 100 kilowatts. It's extremely hard but it can be done.
It’ll be increased by a lot more than that for the new 2026 engines. Work is already well under way…
Mercedes-Benz AMG keeps releasing videos of tech infor no matter the competitors...it just shows their superiority and a high valued team who can change, fool and with tech differently and still not catch up with them.
So much tech, so much money, yet still using zip ties for wire management!
Get the engine sorted out already

From my own understanding, you need to invest wisely, if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $470k in raw profits from just q4 of the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy. mutual funds takes a while but investing wisely is the key for short term. Most of us pay more attention to the easy position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

multibillion dollar sport... still uses zip ties
I mean hey zip ties are quite useful for many applications, including motorsports
Sad with the work you have done with the engine this year . You have screwed the drivers for the next 3 years .
Not true
They should let it spin as much as they can because it makes the sport greener doesn't it
please could you bring back the black arrows by 2023? the cart is imposing this color..
