  • Catching catfish mostly requires bait that has been or is alive. Probably shad or skipjack. Catching bait with a throw net is an art that most cant do or have not tried. You can also catch bait on hooks or small jigs but for those not caring to do so, how about an alternative? On this G3 Sportsman episode Scott Turnage tries an old tried and true bait from the frozen food section at the store. Raw shrimp! As an easy substitute for the norm, the shrimp seemed to work just fine. Its a hot Summer day on Truman Lake, we got shrimp on the barbie and the catfish just needed a little cocktail sauce as they gobbled up these tasty treats. We appreciate you watching.

Learning how to throw a throw net is the best thing to ever happen to me fishing wise. Fresh shad is the best catfish bait. I would urge everyone to learn how to throw a net if possible. It’s awesome however that you show how a guy can cheaply go catch some catfish. Another awesome video Scott!

Agreed. The 4 footers are easiest to start with. I just wish I remembered how to throw the dang thing 🤦🏻‍♂️

I have fished out there with Rod and reel several times with little luck. I can fish jug lines all day long no issues but rod and reel in the same spot I come up dry! Hell I have even fished near you before. You make it look too easy

Good afternoon Scott and Wes, this one takes me back to the Muskingum River at the Philo/Duncan Falls Dam fishing for cats with shrimp close to this time of the year. Hotter than the devils and had to hit the creek before going home from the stink of the shrimp. Caught many of nice stringers of "Squealers" as we called them before they reached the size of Channel Cats. Lots of good eating too. Thanks for sharing with us and keep up the great videos. Fred.

I can’t vividly remember but it seems like we used to buy the boxes of rod n reel shrimp specifically for catfish.

I live in Clinton mo and shrimp is good anytime of the year here on Truman. Squid is a really good bait if your looking for eaters.

nice episode, Scott!! I haven’t catfished in 30 yrs probably. haha. However using shrimp is exactly what we used to use at nite and trot lines. haha

I was a cast net maestro in my day. Catching skipjack on Tenn River. Now I can’t remember how to throw it 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s embarrassing. So I needed a wrinkle in catfishing so… why not store bought shrimp 😁. Thx for watching!
