Their reaction to the entire UBW series was beyond painful to watch. They put more effort into shit talking Shirou than trying to understand anything.

It's more of a moral thing I think. During the fight Archer keeps referring to Shirou's dream as something bad and a mistake, while in reality is quite a beautiful dream
Archer is correct that blindly following the hero's path will screw with Shirou's life, but he's not right in saying that the dream itself isn't beautiful and that Shirou's admiration for it (and his admiration toward Kiritsugu) is a mistake. By the end of the fight Archer remembers why he once found that dream beautiful and accepts his life choices (just as Saber does)
If you play (or watch) the Fate route you can see that this is also addressed in Shirou's relation with Saber and how similar they are. As was Zouken's too in Heaven's Feel

@@rancorious7785 we have a conversation between rin and shirou in HA about him having christmas masses that people go back to as well as destroying marriages that in turn make the couple more tight. Idk, pretty priestly to me. Even when he died, the church sent a replacement meaning he at least had some connections with the church coz if he don't, they'd have sent one even when he's alive.
