    Great questions with answers that make sense. I could listen to you both talk for hours. Thanks for making the business side of flower farming as important and interesting as growing the flowers. I appreciate all the time you put into your interviews and creating content. I can’t wait to see who you will be interviewing next! 💚

      Aww thank you. Appreciate you always listening and letting me know what you get out of these. It really helps me figure out what kind of content to make!

    If you are just starting a flower farm- start selling flowers at a flea market. Nobody talks about it. There are great traffic on Sunday afternoon people coming from church. Go to a market where people pay for parking and not just wandering around. Give it a try. My first flea market I sold over $300.

    Great conversation. I was nodding my head when you said people are looking for a manual on how to do things, grow things, sell things. I totally agree with that and it drives me crazy! Maybe it's because I'm not in one of the younger generations, but I think providing someone with the tools and then letting them go to experiment and think for themselves is the best way. People don't seem to want to think for themselves anymore. They want quick answers of exactly how to do something and then the next time they have to do it they will just ask you again because they didn't learn or retain anything.

      Agree! There are far too many looking for cookie-cutter flower farm plans with no originality or figuring it out on their own & creating something unique! This lacks heart & soul imo.

      And the "if I build it, they will come" mentality, thinking that a post on social media is enough marketing.

      @@floweringevergreen3584 For sure. There is so much that goes behind the scenes of marketing and getting your name out. And I definitely spend more than 30 min a week :)

    I love this two part interview, thank you both so much for all the information. I am a “newbie” flower farmer. I live in a small mountain town (population 238) plus I live off grid so my challenges to have a profitable flower farm is different then most, but through this interview I think I can do this, it just might take a lot of creativity. Thanks again 😊

    • @bareflowerfarm
      @bareflowerfarm  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Wow! That is quite the small town and situation but to your point,, creative thinking can make it possible. What I personally loved was hearing how even someone with so much experience like Lennie had to really take a step back and rethink her model when she moved to a new market. I think often times, we ask other Flower Farmers for advice but forget that they don't live in our towns, our communities, and don't know the slight nuances that may make our circumstances different. I wish you luck and please let us know how it goes this season!

    Sonoma county is a farm travel destination, reach people from all over the world driving around there and scooping farm goods on each corner, probably the only place you can sell $30 bouquets on the farm stand . People drinking wine, driving in limos, impulsively buying everything on the side of the road. I know, I am here 😊 Good business model, but she can’t repeat it in Oregon. Oregon - sale tubers and seeds 😊. Everyone is in teaching. Even the egg just groped from the chicken- teaching the chicken how to drop eggs 😂

      Lol, i'm now imagining an adult party town from your description. Just kidding. I have been there and it is beautiful. All markets are different and that's what makes running the same business in different markets so fascinating because you can have completely different business models even though you are selling the same exact product.

    I'm just starting out in San Diego, CA and this interview has me rethinking things. I have an MBA and don't intend my endeavor to be more than a pleasurable but slightly profitable side hustle. I look forward to my copy of Lennie's book!

      @@bareflowerfarm I was thinking that I'd start out doing farmers markets but then end up doing wholesale to local florists. I'm well aware that the Los Angeles Flower District is the largest in the US and I have the Carlsbad Flower Fields 30 minutes away, but thought I might be able to find a niche with flowers that don't transport well, like dahlias. Lennie has me rethinking sticking with the retail channel.
