- On June 22, 2024 I rode my longest and most intriguing steam train excursion so far.
Reading & Northern Railroad's Iron Horse Ramble with steam locomotive #2102 was the first train to depart from the new Nesquehoning Regional Railroad Station in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania. It was a sold-out all-day excursion taking 700 passengers to Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania for the 43rd annual Founder's Day Festival.
To do this trip justice, I've broken the video into six parts to (hopefully) make each part more watchable. This second part covers the Penobscot rail yard in Mountain Top to the Pittston rail yard in Pittston. Two EMD SD50-2 diesel locomotives (Fast Freight #5018 and #5019) were attached to the front of the train and used their dynamic braking to control our descent down Penobscot Mountain.
Chasing trains and building models is hard work! You can help me refuel and support my adventures at:

A lot of friends were riding or chasing this train as well, so be sure to check out their videos:

How nice that you can work full time at a job you love. That's the best!
Thanks so much, Rosie! It's the first time in my career that I've ever loved a job this much!

Great ride Jaime! Enjoyed it like I was right there riding along. Congrats on your new job too. Sounds really exciting 🚂🚃🚃
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! This trip was a true adventure, and I'm glad to be able to share it with you. I'm very psyched about my new job, and I'm looking forward to sharing more with everyone! My new office and workspace isn't set up yet though, so I'm in a temporary location. I'm pretty much waiting for the permanent setup before I share, hopefully soon!
Adding diesels for dynamic braking?, yes!, absolutely❗I still like the Reading Hooter better than the 6-chime! Not getting toooo far off the track, but, i ordered a quantity of Herrs chips for an upcoming July 4th party❗
The more I hear the Reading Hooter, the more I like it, but I'm still on team 6-chime lol. That sounds like you've got a fun 4th of July celebration coming up, enjoy!
@@JamieMakin yeah, my nextdoor neighbor has several large BBQ smokers, and has invited a bunch of nearby neighbors. So........i am providing most of the chips, and some 12 inch chocolate chip cookies too!
Nice! One of my neighbors always has a big gathering too, so that's what I'll be doing this year.
Thank you for this video Jamie. All new track to me. I look forward to video #3 to Tunkhannock! 🙂
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it! I had ridden the track in part 2 many times but only filmed it once before. Part 3 (and 4) was all new territory for me. Hope you enjoy it too!
Good morning Jamie. This is to much fun riding along with you. I've always thought that being a conductor would be fun.... then I think about those brutally hot and cold days. Has to be a tough job. Hoping to see a shot of the old LV roundhouse in the next video. Have a wonderful day.
Good evening Kevin! Glad you got a glimpse of the roundhouse in part 3, though that line of railcars really made it tough to see. I have those same thoughts too about conductors on the brutally hot and brutally cold days. I still want to do it someday, but I've got a long way to go with losing weight and getting fit before that can happen. It's good motivation to make some lifestyle changes though.
Awesome video Jamie
Thanks Marilyn!
Good morning Jamie. So this is a serious question. Is the modern era always what is current or is it a specific era of time? If that makes sense. Looks like you had a wonderful day. Lots of interesting angles as well. I hope you're doing well friend. Thank you for all that you do.
Good evening Dennis! The "modern era" usually refers to when railroads switched from steam to all diesel (with excursions like this being rare exceptions). So in general the 1960s or later, though some people refer to it more as just the last few decades.
They should paint a different style paint job that the reading had like bee line type
I agree
14:30 those houses also have the NS ex D&H line on the far side. 14:47.. wow that is kinda sad. The connection to the NS/D&H at Dupont. Its getting TREES overgrowing it..
I noticed that too, not sure what's up with that, but hopefully they'll clean it up and use it again eventually.
🙃
Hi Jamie!
Enjoyed part two. Waiting for rest 😊.
Those f units need tlc!
I'd love to see them restored to working condition.
