  • Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War, an overhaul mod for HOIIV, puts you in the position of one of the countries of the world in World War One's time period. Imperial Germany and Austria Hungary battles for imperialism and territories against France, The United Kingdom and Russia. As the timeline proceeds, the war will escalate into the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East. The Soviet Union will see its birth and the world is turned upside down.
The Great War Mod can be downloaded from the Steam Workshop. Its definitely worth a try as it is very well made!
This WWI timelapse has been simulated by AI in the video game Hearts of Iron IV by Paradox Interactive.
    All DLC are installed:
    - La Resistance
    - Waking the Tiger
    - Man the Guns
    - Together for Victory

found that the russian revolution can be pretty cheesed in this mod. was playing as france and russia was being absolutely destroyed, so I sent over about 12-20 divisions to hold a front line in the north near konigsberg, so they were basically protecting some of the last polish provinces the russians had. well suffice to say, the revolution doesnt trigger as long as the russians hold some polish provinces, so it meant that even though the austrians had pushed so deep into soviet territory in the south, which was the front they were holding, that they had ran out of divisions to hold a front line, and had literally snaked up to take moscow. and despite the fact the russians were losing so many men and had nearly lost moscow the russian revolution just did not activate b/c they still held those few polish provinces the germans couldnt get :-). anyways i had allied the chinese republic after having sent an attache during their civil war and managed to call them in, which promptly saved the russian frontline.

I like how this makes quite clear some of the flaws in the game. That early invasion of the ottomans and a later invasion .... sorry but the tech in the 1910's would not have allowed that. Neither would the shipping capacity have existed to keep all those areas in the adriatic supplied. They really need to tone those down in this version of the game as they act like WWII power in WWI which is really stupid. Plus you can see another flaw in all the numbers being displayed. Watch how the factory output of the Entente snowballs out of control which again would not be possible, due to flaws in the development engines. The lack of balance in this mode is amazing sometimes.

@Zeros DaBast The Ottomans did phenomenally in the war given the circumstances. They held out much better than even the Entente expected. @Zeros DaBast Just look at Gallipoli

    • @nichl474
      @nichl474 Před 3 lety +1

@Zeros DaBast The Ottomans never collapsed during the First World War. In fact, they only collapsed after the Great War in 1921 when Atatürk rose to power and established Turkey. During WWI, the Entente never got far into the Ottoman Empire's territory and the vast majority of its core lands remained untouched. The Ottoman Empire held much longer on the Mesopotamian front than anyone had foreseen and managed to have a more or less stable front. Also, the Ottoman military had infact been modernizing as well as they could in the runup to the Great War. Its army was filled with German military trainers & officers and the Ottoman officer & equipment situation was pretty acceptable at the start of WWI. There were many other Ottoman victories over the Entente like the very important Siege of Kut, and the Second Battle of Gaza during WWI. The Ottomans weren't formidable as in steamrolling the UK and Russia with its superior army and winning the war, but as in being a nuisance that wouldn't go down and that could hold against the Entente for a considerable time.
Also, why are you bringing up tanks, radios, motorized units and airplanes? In WWI tanks, airplanes and motorized units were a rarity only used by a select few countries, weren't even that effective because of the technologies being in their infancies and even then only scarcely used. The Ottomans did have a small airforce which is pretty reasonable considering planes were a recent invention in their infancy. And though radios were slowly becoming common, they weren't ubiquitous. Hitler for example was a messager who ran from trench to trench to deliver information. Does that mean Germany had a "bad" military in WWI? Also, was Germany "weak" because they had virtually no tanks? I don't think so.

Great german AI. They moved their entrenched units away from the front, so belgium and french troops could take their fortified spot and just rofl stomp...
Love the mod. The only downside is, the one with more manpower growth and industry wins. Because, even with tanks, it is pretty much impossible to go through a fortified piece of land. Only navel invasions work. And of course, fighting Paradox AI.

Though the Central Powers managed to capitulate Russia and bring back the Ottomans, they eventually lost because of a few reasons.
    1. The were unable to kick the Entente out of small, easy to defend pockets. One of those pockets was in Jerusalem, and the Central Powers spent two years trying to destory it, which allowed the Entente to press the advance elsewhere.
    2. They NEVER fully capitulated Serbia OR Montenegro. Those two remained a thorn in the Central Powers side for the entire war, which allowed fronts such as the Greek or French front to make permanent advances.
    3. Industry and Population: Throughout the entire war the Entente maintained a lead in industry and manpower. Even when Russia pulled out completely the US joined which easily replaced the loss. By the end of the war both Entente Industry and Army size was twice that of the Central Powers. An impossible hurdle to overcome. (Not to mention the CP's lost their advantage in casualties by the end of the war as well. They were completely fucked.)

It was pretty smart of the Entente to do naval invasions to open more fronts, since they had more fielded troops than Central Powers. Other than that, just looking at the industry score, it wasn't even a competition.
