In this episode: the L115 - the British designation for the Arctic Warfare Magnum bolt-action rifle from Accuracy International.
Damage is very good, with the L115 boasting the largest one hit kill area of all the sniper rifles, alongside the Lynx.
You'll kill at any range with a shot to the head, neck, torso - and even the upper portion of the legs.
This makes the rifle even more deadly than its bolt action peer, the USR - although the L115 pays for this extra damage with a few negative adjustments to its handling traits.
For one, your maximum rate of fire is lower - the bolt-action will slow you down to 40 rounds per minute, slower than any other weapon in the game.
This abysmally slow output will severly hamper your performance in close quarters: and given the colossal hipfire spread, landing an unaimed shot requires a huge dose of luck.
Recoil is present but not a factor in your accuracy, with the rifle settling as you cycle the action.
As with the USR, the L115 has the benefit of a recoil compensator that gains effectiveness with every kill, resetting upon death.
The lower recoil permits retention of your scope's view on target, which can prove helpful when tackling multiple opponents: better tracking movement to line up a second shot.
Aim time is slow, albeit faster than some of the sniper rifles on offer: at 400 millseconds.
This is the same as the USR, with the two bolt-action weapons having marginally faster ADS times when compared to the semi-automatic options.
Your movement speed is a little on the slow side, however - you'll move at 85 percent of the base speed, some 5 percent slower than the USR.
Magazine capacity is the lowest in-class, at 5 rounds: but the lower fire rate of the sniper rifles mean that this isn't a significant issue.
In any case, the L115 reloads faster than any other sniper: at 3.36 seconds.
Building a class for this weapon should focus on the core feature of a bolt-action rifle: reliable one shot kills.
With the slowest rate of fire in the game, anything you can do to enhance the odds of a successful shot will pay dividends.
The logical first attachment choice is the Chrome-lined barrel, then: this will increase your weapon's one-hit kill area to cover additional portions of the limbs.
While ideally you'll aim for centre mass to maximise your odds of a kill, any enhancement to your one-hit-kill area will yield more consistent results.
The attachment does increase recoil and idle sway, but the enhanced kick shouldn't matter - as you won't be able to fire until the bolt has been cycled.
Next, Armor Piercing rounds will enhance your ability to shoot through cover, as well as increasing the damage you deal versus enemy killstreaks.
While you should aim to land a clear shot on a target, sometimes cover may occlude your foe - and in this case, the extra penetration ability can sometimes prove decisive.
For your perks, there are few that will directly affect your lethality - so accuracy is perhaps the best investment.
Focus will reduce both idle sway and view flinch from incoming fire - helping to reign in some of the chrome lined barrel's negative effects by keeping your sights as steady as possible.
Positioning is another key part of effective sniping, as you must anticipate where your enemy will spring from: Wiretap can be a good investment if your enemy makes heavy use of SatComs, as you'll be able to use them as your own for better situational awareness.
Similarly useful is Amplify: when occupying a firing location you may attract some attention from foes who would seek to displace you with a forced close-range engagement.
With this perk, you'll be able to hear them coming more clearly - giving you time to switch to an alternative weapon.
The L115 is a precision weapon with uncompromised one-shot ability, able to quickly extinguish the opposition at any range.
Only the Lynx can compare to this weapon's lethality, and unlike the heavy semi-automatic option, the L115 retains some favourable handling characteristics.
Like the USR, aim time is faster than the semi-auto rifles: and while the USR's mobility is superior, you'll still leave the Lynx in your dust.
However, you must be accurate with this weapon, else the slowest fire rate in the game will punish you: your enemy given generous opportunity to retaliate while you cycle the bolt.
The limited magazine capacity may harm your sustained support, too - with a short period of downtime required every 5 shots.
Nevertheless, the sniper rifle's single-shot ability is their key trait, and the L115 excels in this regard.

The L115 has the record for the longest sniper kill ever. It was by a british soldier with an L115 in Afghanistan in 2009 at over 1 and a half miles

As a sharpshooter in the Swedish army, I had the pleasure to wield an Accuracy International Arctic Warfare rifle, aka Prickskyttegevär 90. Ngl, it felt pretty cool to learn how to use a weapon so iconic in many video games (I think the english name for it is L118A1, and the "AWP" has a bit shorter barrel).
Coming from Den Kirson, the Chrome Line will actually reduce the OHK area of the L115 -- the default sniper already has a larger kill area than a USR with Chrome Lined. It also doesn't help that this placebo is accompanied by higher sway and recoil, so one might as well ditch the attachment entirely. The AP rounds are a sensible choice, however.
It is likely that Den Kirson have screwed up both the L115 and the LYNX. Drift0r get his information from Den Kirson's forums, and he TOTALLY screwed up those two "in depth" episodes...

This gun is a L96 variant I'm guessing, definitely looks just like the L96.
Yep, I know the comment is old but the L96 can be seen as the father from which the L115 and L118 and others are born in a weird metaphorical way at least that's what I think
L96 was the British designation for the "Precision Marksman" which was the gun that Accuracy International made previously and based the Arctic Warfare rifles off of.
no it’s the L115A3, firing the .338 Lapua round; the L96 fires .308 (the same as the Remington USR)

Variable Zoom sight is a really good attachment, I find the decreased zoom (first zoom setting) to really help when in close quarters (just in case you scope in too far away from the target it's much easier and quicker to move your crosshair toward them with less zoom).
Whenever I see the thermal on a sniper I think babies first sniper with how it basically turned the sniper into the bo2 ksg on steroids.
The L115 reminds me of my days with the L118 in MW3

I've been playing Ghosts since it came out. Ever since the Heavy Duty play list went live, it's all I've been playing. Playing only on this playlist means that I don't ever snipe. Now that I watch this video, it makes me want to play the other playlists just to snipe.

Sadly, he said we wasn't covering any of the Secondary weapons. I wish he would at least cover the handguns. And from the videos, his preferred sidearm seems to be the M9A1.
Excellent review, you did this weapon justice. It is by far a precision weapon & I use it as such. It is a very rewarding sniper that gets the job done very well!

As you are clearly as sniper by nature, do you have a favourite? Personally I like the VKS because not a huge fan of the more powerful guns, I feel they draw a undesirable image to you when you use them. Also they tend to feel a bit clunky to me.
Antony Dale Yes, my favorite is by far the L115. The VKS is nice but I only find myself using it in Extinction rather than MP. I do agree with how clunky the snipers can be!

This is my faviroute class. Golden L115 with insane accuracy that increases as you get kills. In a ghillie suit you are known as a king. I got this at prestige 1... thats how awsome it is. And if you are in close range, just switch and spam that shoot button. This is real sniper class!
Why didn't you mention the ability to kill Ballistic Vest users in one shot with the Armor-Piercing attachment on? Honestly, that's the main reason I'll use the attachment on a sniper, shooting through walls is just sort of a secondary benefit for me. Either way, nice video. :)
Chrome lined also doesn't increase idle sway, it increases the speed of it!

Hey Stu. I know you said you don't often answer videos relating to beer but i thought this was interesting so here goes. What do you think about the American Craft Beer industry at the moment? I'm a big fan i have to be honest. My favourite would be Boston Lager by Sam Adams followed by Brooklyn Lager. There's so much out there and its so much more interesting than most beer scenes at the moment.

The L115 is actualy a upgraded version called the Arctic Warfare Super Magnum using a .338 Lapua Magnum round not the .308 win mag from the old AWM or L96
.308 isn't a Magnum round. It is often referred to as .308 Winchester, though.
And the AWM can fit either .338 Lupua Magnum or the .300 Winchester Magnum, depending on which one you buy.
Connection looks a lot better on the xbox one. Have you found your general sniping ability is improved with dedicated severs. Im having bad connection recently so i get killed round corners a lot...

Call of Duty Ghost is the only console game I know that have a Dual render scope can't wait for other console FPS games to utilize this mechanic
with this weapon i never get hitmarkers, it doesn´t need steady aim perk to do a trickshot. it´s perfect and always deadly
Stu, I know that you wrote your scripts for Ghosts ahead of time. Did you write the scripts with specific class setups in mind, or do you play with the weapon for a time and then fill in that part of the script before recording?

If you were to replace the Armor Piercing rounds for the Thermal Scope on the L115, does the sniper still keep its Recoil Compensator ability or does it completely remove it?
The recoil compensation is built in. it reduces kick with any attachment equipped.
I perfer extended clips on the L115 and the USR they're already powerful enough for one hit kills.

The way it’s a one-hit from the upper legs and up, makes it feel like a good gun. Not a hit marker machine like some other snipers......

I have 2 questions:
1. I am an excellent sniper in COD Ghosts and I prefer the stable position, so me and my friend Brandon devised a buddy system- Brandon has an automatic assault rifle while I use the L115 Sniper. Brandon guards an entryway while I kill as many enemies as I can from a supported position. Will this tactic work?
2. Because I'm a noob, can a full-360 headshot no scope be possible with the L115?

This was the only call of duty where I actually dominated lobbies, L115 & PDW is what I ran almost the entire life-span of the game. I have never been able to do this again in any call of duty before or after Ghost and I can't figure out why

Sorry to say this but you got the one kill zones wrong for the legs and arms. You see the damage is weird as in if you shoot the left bicep it would kill him but on the right bicep it would not. Same for the triceps,thighs,and calves.
Also chrome lined increases idle sway or the sway of the sights when you aim.
actually the chrome lined barrel isnt good on the L115, go to the call of duty wiki and see how it changes the OHK area

I have no idea how a chrome-lined barrel is supposed to increase lethality... that doesn't make sense lol O_O
probably reduces friction between the bullet and barrel, increasing muzzle velocity and kinetic energy (knockdown power)
John Bilbao A chrome-lined barrel is actually intended to decrease barrel wear and prolong its service life. You will actually see a lot of rifle manufacturers offer their precision rifles without a chome-lined barrel because it can be detrimental to accuracy (so they say, take it for what you will).
This just sounds like Infinity Ward not doing their homework again. If they wanted an attachment that produced better accuracy, they could have used a "Swagged Barrel" attachment (swagging being when the bore of the barrel tapers slightly thinner towards the muzzle. The HK MR762A1 is an example of a firearm with a swagged barrel, and it has a cousin in this game, being the MR-28).
As for more firepower, that's only really something that can be solved with the cartridge itself. Maybe they could have used a "Hollowpoint Rounds" attachment instead? Hollowpoints do usually have pretty mediocre accuracy from a precision rifle, however... Dunno how to fix this one XD
Barrels correlate to accuracy, projectiles correlate to punch.
Besides, it's a video game, so I guess it doesn't really mater at all...

A chrome barrel increases bullet tension and muzzle velocity. Also acts like a rifle designed choke.
Bimmer Bomber you do realize that chrome barrel increased sway and recoil to reflect this in game. They did portray the attachment accurately, it offers higher power but you pay for it with less precise shots, which is how a chrome lined barrel works in real life.
