Live near and work closely with Crockett & Jones. Have several pairs including the "James" and Chelsea. Exceptional boots and the best fit I've found from any maker.
Being in the UK, I have exposure to many makers here and also have an interest in makers across Europe and Asia. I can honestly say the Islay boot is a proper boot at a relatively reasonable price. I feel 2 inches taller every time I wear them but yet you can walk miles in them. Dress them down in hemmed jeans or with flannels over them
Love this video. A good friend from England gave me a pair of Crockett and Jones shoe’s recently and honestly they are truly great shoes they are a plain toe derby in chocolate suede and even though in the USA they are a lot of money the quality is well worth it I’d see myself wearing these for years as a go to shoe.
I had the pleasure of visiting their factory shop in Northampton, and even their seconds are excellent quality, got a pair of Westfield burnished calf half-brogue oxfords for £230 when the normal price is £540, excellent deal and they're so well fitting, definitely worth the price and with some care will last me for years. A pair of Islay boots is absolutely on the list for future purchases.
Owning three pairs here, will never buy another brand in formal/semi-formal leather shoes. FYI - Brecon, Ashdown, Worcester (the latter discontinued; in suede). All on the 341 last and that''s no coincidence.
I only have a pair of vintage chukka boots but I would love a pair of those 'Snowdons'. Maybe one day.... Just have to make do with my Trickers Stows til then
Crockett and Jones are a whole new level. They’ve always been on my grail list. How did your trip to the UK go? Any Northamptonshire shoe brand videos coming our way soon?
Better than John lobb and higher level than carmina and Allen Edmonds. This is an excellent and highly respected maker that even makes shoes for purple label Ralph Lauren and made shoes for Richard James at one point. I think they are classy and sophisticated and I wish people would buy this over Ysl, Gucci and Hermes
Great interview, thanks. They are not cheap but they are excellent quality partly because they are made in the UK. Other UK brands such as Oliver Sweeney have their shoes made in India and unfortunately the quality is not the same. You will never regret buying a pair of C&Js.
Hi There, great show. I wonder can you tell me are there any European shoe makers that make the American style heritage boots like Wolverines or Red Wings. Those US boots are really expensive here in Europe.
As soon as I buy these shoes, I will immediately become James Bond )) Especially knowing the price of climbing on stones to peel off socks and in a week, they will become a second-hand pair.
I was always confused by C&J they seem to have they're takes on many styles of shoes and boots but i cant find one design that is perticulary they're in core. Maybe im missing something but Edward Green has galaway, Trickers Stowe. Redwing many, Viberg has 2030 and 310 that are kind of all icons. C&J is kind of full cut and chuka but im not shure i get it
The veldtschoen method is about as good as it gets in boot construction; fabulous old fashioned water proofing. If you have money to spare though, I advise Edward Green boots.
This isn't a comment about this particular video. I was watching your channel and seeing the various collaboration videos you do. I am sure you are aware of Kirby Allison's You tube channel and how he started out making hangers for jackets, because he couldn't find good hangers for tailored jackets. Have you ever thought of making boot trees. I have a few pair of boots, and when I search for boot trees the options are quite limited. If you had a great boot tree design, I am sure with your brand and audience it would do well. Just an Idea. On the flip side, maybe you have found great boot trees. I would love to see a video about the best boot trees.
This is a great idea! They're sooo expensive, especially when you're getting boot trees instead of shoe trees. If I could find a way to make them for under 50 bucks I would! Thanks Asher
Can you tell me where in NYC would be best to get my feet sizing?? I need a real place that understands handmade footwear. I had surgery on one of my feet and I know my feet are different sizes and I need handmade.
What an Amazing Video Nick!!! Really Well Done... While you are in New York Visit Justin FitzPatrick at every cost. You will Fall in love with his work. Give My Regards to him as well
They look nice, I believe they're overpriced. Too many companies doing the same thing at a much more reasonable price. Especially the "outdoor" models. Rose Anvil would have a field day.lol
I think Carmina make good quality shoes and Joseph Cheaney are $100 cheaper and have an excellent range of designs both casual and dressy. I tend to think of Crockett and Jones as being the best value for every unit of currency spent.
I own a couple of pairs of C&J boots and they are very high quality. However, it is a lot of money to gain only a little over less expensive brands and given footwear (and especially boots) has to put up with a lot of abuse having neater stitching or finer finishing rapidly becomes irrelevant unless you are babying them. Otherwise they are still going to be looking beaten up in a few years and they will not last any longer than cheaper footwear.
@@ianarn rough out and suede are two different types of leather. Rough out is full grain leather just flipped over. Suede is split leather. Both are fuzzy. That’s why the man was “confused”.
so tell me, who's is slopping around in the mud wearing 800.00 dress shoes? better yet, why would you? I find that pretty ridiculous. nice shoes, but dont pass them on for something they are not for.
I'm gonna go ahead and say you don't know what you're talking about. American brand work boots in full leather also cost in the ranges of 600-800$. Whites, wescos, franks to name three. The difference between these 800$ English boots and those 800$ American boots is that in the English ones you'll have a pair that can be both worn to work and out on a date. No amount of polish and shining could make those PNW boots look as pretty as these. Just because they look fashionable does not mean that they are not highly functional for work and getting dirty. The islay boot as basically a boot for shit weather anyways. It just looks nice when sloshing around in the muddy puddles. Bonus.
You must use the word"like" at least 5 times in every sentence. My 20 year old daughter used to talk like this. She is almost 30 now and has stopped this horrible habit.
Are they a good year welt type of shoe? I don’t care if James n Bond or Jesus Christ wore them but are they better than an American made boot or Chinese grant stone?
Yes they are GW, and yes they are better than AE and on par with Carmina, Aldens ets. Grant stone is super nice, although their lasts selection is quite limited

I’d say that Crockett And Jones are the best boot maker on the planet. Quality, build, matériels are all absolutely perfect each time i buy a pair.
Trickers are better I own both

If you are a lover of quality boots, a pair of C&J Islay’s and Trickers Stows’s in your collection is pretty much all that you will ever need.
Which ones shoot rockets? 🤔

I’m from the UK and they are my go to shoes. They go with anything and have kept their heritage unlike other shoe brands that have sold out.

Great store. Super relaxed and friendly staff. And right next to the RM Williams store and the Grand Seiko Boutique. 😉

Nothing beats ISLAY boots
Very informative. Jonathan really knows his stuff. Good job.
fantastic video, this is the best brand!! the Camberley are just stunning!
So Interesting ! Thanks for the video. 007 has always been one of my favorite styles!
The maroon pants with the Snowden boots in the product shots reminded me of the good ol Stridewise maroon joggers
i wore them this weekend!
I own a pair of Skye 3, Eskdale 2 and Chilterns. Can’t wait to buy some more. Great boots.
This video was just a pleasure to watch! :) Shoes were great too!
Awesome Stela, thanks for saying so

I'd say their coniston boots or Cavendish for loafers. Harlechs if your into cordovan. Pembroke has its fans too I'm just not one of them.
