Why is Shamanism so Attractive to Artists?

  • Whether in dance, the visual arts or music, shamanism is making an unexpected comeback. Unlike in the 1960s and 1970s, when people wanted to expand their consciousness and step outside of reality, the emphasis is now on healing society and oneself. Humankind and nature are in need of collective awareness, mindfulness and spiritual healing.
What practices of shamanism are artists adopting? What fundamental needs are they tapping into? Do the artists see themselves as shamans or healers? And who are and were the real shamen?
Join us on a transcendental trip that takes in Joseph Beuys, Carlos Castaneda, Marina Abramovic, Jim Morrison, and many others.

It is finding the divine and absolute through the mundane. Like Tantra, it is going to the divine realm through the back door

With all due respect, maestro Igor Sakharoff looks very much like a commercial showman, not a shaman nor an artist.
As a side note , I strongly doubt that a *real* shaman would ever offer people anything like ditching or even BURNING their own personality (Я). It looks absolutely weird.
