    FAQ's:
Q: My Key Cap will not click down in place correctly. What's wrong?
A: If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.
Q: Where can I purchase replacement keys?
A: If you break or damage any component of the key assembly, you would have to replace it. I usually get my keys on Ebay or www.replacementlaptopkeys.com. If you cannot find a loose key for sale, you may have to purchase a keyboard and take a key from there.
Q: I have a Key or Keys that are not working. Will this fix them?
A: This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; • How To Fix Troubleshoo... .
Q: The hinge clip came apart into two pieces. How can I reassemble?
A: They fit together with a small plastic pin on the left and right of the inner clip. These fit into holes on the outer clip. To see exactly how the inner clip sits in the outer clip, remove another key cap and copy the clip under it.
Q: The rubber spring came off. How do I reattach it?
A: There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.
Q: The Hinge Clip came off with the Key Cap. What do I do?
A: Because they key can usually not be reinstalled with the Retainer Clip and the Key Cap still attached to each other, you would have to separate them as seen here, using a small flat pry tool.

I am struggling with this key on a Thinkpad T580 and this keyboard looks exactly like what I am dealing with for this model. Thank you for the very clear explanation and you're pro at this! The only thing I'd mention is that I try to use plastic tools instead of metal, when prying up plastic parts, there is less chance of denting the part.

Fantastic video! Absolute lifesaver! An ant ran under my space key, and I went after it by hooking the key with my fingernail and pulling it up. I ended up with one key and four plastic pieces. Luckily nothing broke. Thanks to the close-ups in your video, I was able to put all the pieces together and clip the key back in. Thanks so much!

So I just had another crack at it and managed to fix it right this time. More feedback for you: your video does not address the orientation or assembly of the plastic hinge pieces. This is ultra-critical. If you take them apart and they aren't facing the right way or they're upside down, or the space bar is upside down, nothing will work! You have to pay close attention to all axes of orientation here. The hinge piece won't hinge if it's facing the wrong way. It won't reattach to the space bar if something's upside down. And there are some delicate pivot pieces on the small hinge that will break easily. So yeah, this key was a challenge for me. I should've gone looking for a service manual.

My entire keyboard is defective except for when I use an external keyboard to type with.
Could you tell me what's wrong with my laptop? I have an R14, or an R5-471T laptop and the keys malfunction.
Previously a battery had expanded inside the laptop and had to be replaced immediately.
The keyboard has been malfunctioning since I first obtained this laptop and frequently ceases altogether when I use it. The rest of the laptop, such as the screen and mouse, will resume normal function. I got this laptop when it was released in 2015.
I have a new keyboard, but picking out keys and replacing them does not work.
There are no other videos on CZcams regarding my problem.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  Před 2 lety

Is the key cap itself bent or is there an issue under the key cap that causing it to bend up? If the key cap is bent, you would have to retrain it to not bend or replace it. If something underneath is causing it to bend, its most likely caused by one of the retainer clips not being installed properly or one of the stabilizer bars out of place

If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged.
