I am a Norwegian. In 2015 i was diagnosed with cancer of the prostate gland. Operated by robot (!) at the St Olafs Hospital i Trondheim. Big hospital, 11 300 people work there. 2016, by bloodtest, it was found that som cancercells may have survived, so I underwent 35 rounds of radiation. With all travels (free) all medicins (heavily subsidised by the system) - the whole affair cost me around 400 dollars. Since then up to 300 dollars a year in medicins.
That´s all. No need to think about insurance, not much waiting time anywhere.
And that robot - well, its controlled by a surgeon, of course - was really, really something!

Here in Ontario, the most populated province in Canada. Prescription medication is now free for all people under 25 years old. As long as you have an OHIP card (provincial health card) you can get your medication costs covered. It's not ideal but it's a step forward.

I remember as a kid when i Learned that in the US, healthcare is not a right. That you have to pay before they can treat you. I dont remember the movie i first learned about this, but the plot was that they had to sell everything they had and beg for money to save their father who was in the hospital dying. They could’nt operate on him before the money was on the table.
I remember being so disgusted. Thinking how barbaric it was. Where is the love for one another? I remember being so angry and sick. That money ment more than people.
I learned then that the world is far from perfect. As a kid in Norway it is hard not to be happy. We have everything. Everywhere is safe and people will help you when you need it. I Remember feeling sad for the people living in such countries like the US, and how lucky we were.

The limit in norway per year is around 270$ (around 2200NOK) having "free" healthcare and school helps build a country in so many ways.! More people in work/school. people get better education wich increases and brings in fresher and " updated" new people into new types of work. wich again helps in the longer run towards new technology and ways of living. and it keeps poverty AND crime low! wich is a win/win! search for (Where in the world is it easiest to get rich? | Harald Eia | TEDxOslo ) it explains in so many ways why these things help a country in so many ways. aswell as giving people a good and long life happy!

@@ronnyandersen5521 its not paid vacations, you are deducted 10.2%-12% of your paycheck each month to save up for this, thats why you are not paying taxes on this money as you already have done so, also its the employer who save the money for you so you do have money when you take a holiday.
Basically it is your own money, that the company save for you.

I've lived in a country with single-payer healthcare my whole life. When I think there are countries where access to healthcare is not a human right I struggle to understand why that happens. It's not that hard, it's not that expensive, many developed countries in the world are doing it, why does the US keep behaving like an underdeveloped country when it comes to that?

What don’t American politicians get. The US government already pays double per capita than Canada for healthcare 🤦🏻‍♀️
Statistics already show that Canadians have better healthcare outcomes than Americans. Is our plan perfect no but Canadians would never ever give up their healthcare.
I was diagnosed, had a Ct scan and was on treatment for cancer in less than 2 weeks. I never had to worry if I was going to lose my house or go bankrupt. No 9ne ever waits for emergencies as you are seen right away.

Imagine if you had to choose and negotiate which fire department or police force would turn up when you call 911. Imagine if an Icelandic military force was invading your coastal state and you had to look up your Defense Contract to know a) which mercenary force or militia to call, and b) if the contract covers invasions by Icelanders!
In EVERY developed country some basic issues are guaranteed (and paid for with your taxes): Community safety (Firefighting and Police), the well-being of yourself and your family (Health Care) and the future of your offspring and yourself (Education and Pension).
Most developed countries spend an inordinate amount of resources on warfare (called Defense), but there is one country that is geologically invasion-proof but still spends astronomic sums on "defense", but have only used their military forces for actual OFFENSE in the last 70 years, only fighting and even instigating conflict well outside their own border. Their "Department of Defense" should really be called the "Department of Offense". This country is NOT Russia, which has been invaded twice in just a few centuries. Putin's Russia certainly is deplorable, exporting organized and political crime overtly and covertly, but the US appears to be winning the "who is most deplorable" contest.
If the US were to crank down their "defense" spending to suit their domestic needs, the "how are you going to pay for affordable health care and education" question becomes moot.

    Healthy people work.
Working people earn money and tax the country.
    Profit?
Thats the idea of Norways health care system, parents leave etc. Keeping people working benefits the countries more than people tend to know.

Why did no one ask about how it is paid for in those countries? The girl from France volunteered part of the answer. She said while working there was a medical deduction from her pay check much like our SS here. But did not say exactly how much. In out case the SS is 6% employee and 6% employer. I hear going up. I think that is a easy solution here with employer maybe paying a bigger percentage because they cover part of it now. However, my business has resellers in other countries like France and what I hear is yes they have this but taxes a really high on the employees to pay for it.
I am disappointed in your title on sometimes description “Medicare for All”. It is not the same as Medicare for Seniors now that you usually point out that like it. I will start Medicare in 6 months and have done a good bit of research and I believe I will like it. But it will definitely not be free. My cost based on my income is pretty high premium. However, I feel fortunate and don’t mind paying my fair share. I just think if you’d be truthful a lot like me might become a believer. I think starting out you may really want to consider using actual Medicare but expand the number of people that get it instead of a complete change. Overall I hope this works out because I believe in everyone having healthcare. Just how we get there.

Many people think that medicare for all, paid by taxes is an stupid, nonsensical idea that only works in utopias. I dare you to come to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, or Finland for a visit. Break your leg while you are there, we don't care if you do it on purpose. Our hospitals WILL help you, doctors WILL help you, and we will NOT hold you for ransom while you figure out how to pay for anything in one of the most expensive countries in the world.
You should be ashamed of yourself if you think medicare for all, paid through taxes is not possible. You just have to stop trying to be at war ALL the time, and it's easy. Fuck, if the US cut only half of your military budget, you would have it.....
