This whole episode had Jerry as the butt of the joke and both he and Zach have the comedic sense to know how good of a bit this is. Jerry is not a hugger, which is why he didn't hug Kesha (that and also literally having no idea who she was). So the only reason be would go for a hug and go for it in such a physically exaggerated way is because he knew it would be hilarious for Cardi to turn the tables on him, as that is just how the turn tables.
