The backlit keyboard on this Aspire setup is similar to other models we've examined. The keys themselves have a firm, responsive bump with a springy rebound, though travel (the amount of movement the key makes on each keystroke) is a touch less than I'd like. You also get a dedicated numeric keypad with a thin design that makes the keys appear crushed.
Aside from the fact that they're not terrific, there's not much to say about the Aspire 5's speakers. Of course, you can't expect much from laptop speakers, especially if they're on the cheap side. On the plus side, Aspire's speakers can go rather loud, and they're absolutely adequate for listening to audio from CZcams videos. However, these narrow, bass-free speakers can't compete with external speakers or a good pair of headphones.
Moving on to the performance specifics of the Acer Aspire 5.
The laptop comes equipped with Ry zen 3 33 50U that delivers desktop-class performance and incredible battery life. Get up to 3.5GHz with Precision Boost for your high-demand application. In this video, we compare this dual-core Ry zen 3-powered Aspire 5 to a number of similar 8th-generation Intel Core i3 and i5 laptops, some of which cost hundreds of dollars more than this model. The Aspire 5 ranks near the bottom of our performance charts. However, keep in mind that this Acer laptop is one of the least costly systems, so there is a value proposition to consider. Also, while Aspire's performance on performance tests may appear to be poor, that doesn't imply it can't handle common computing chores like editing Office documents, surfing the web, and editing a photo or two.
On to some comparative performance test scores.
The Ry zen 3 Aspire ranks towards the bottom of PCMark 8 ranking, slightly above identical dual-core Intel Core i3 computers. The laptop scores an average of 3,000 implying that it should easily handle the day-to-day computing duties that this low-cost laptop was clearly designed for.

I have an Acer Aspire 5, i-5, (thus I noticed the stickers). I maxed out the RAM to 20 GB, added a SATA SSD, and upgraded the original NVME to an SK Hynix Gold P31. It is a very capable laptop, for not too much money.

A phenomenal computer, I've had it for the past few years, and it's been a tank. Never any issues, runs smoothly, and powerfully. One of Acer's best, and happy to see many positive reviews about it, really a good sign, Easy to add onto it as well, I happen to have mine with extra features and add-ons, just phenomenal 😂👍

I love mine. It was a refurbished one. I think I've had it at least 4 years. Works great for just home use. I'm always on my Acer Aspire 5 for streaming jewelry videos for making my jewelry, posting to sell.

Anything more than basic tasks?? I take offense to this statement. Should you be manipulating 10 Excel spreadsheets at once on this? No, but its VERY reasonably priced if you are using it as a terminal to connect to work, its more than sufficient. Just bought one, and had some issues out of box, but it is a really solid machine for the price. Mine specs a 13th gen i5, 16 GB DDR5, 512 nvme, 1080p screen, for $600.

Would this be good for working on the adobe creative cloud and game design in roblox and possibly light work in unity or unreal? I want to use in my middle school classroom for very entry level game design and digital arts.

I would avoid this brand all together. I've had 2 laptops from this line in the past 4 years and both starting having problems within the 2 years time frame (screen was no longer turning on, the fan started to become noisy and so on). While I did not expect a laptop to last forever, a 2 year lifespan is way too short. You you'd be better off adding the few extra bucks and buy a better brand (it's worth on long run)

I own one and it's the worst quality made laptop I've had. The color and performance are descent but the problem I encountered is the bezel & hinge that hold the screen are coming loose making it almost inoperable. I'm wondering if others are having this same issue. Very poorly made.

I didnt know how notebook can be terrible. Its super loud, reproductors are from bottom so you cant here the sound much and they give it with some funny charger, so I have to buy extra C-charger which I use for my dockstation + my external mouse is stucking all the time (on other laptop it doesnt do). Definitely I woudnt buy it again. Before I had Lenovo IdeaPad 5 and overall I was satisfield just the hinges got broken. In this acer I am not sure if its gonna last longer because it has some special "Elevated design". I cant say it the best budget laptop.

It's $600! That's just one week of pay for the average American. If you have that laptop for 5 years, you're exchanging 1 day of pay per year to have the most life-enriching object available besides house, car, or cell phone.

Review for Acer Notebook - Aspire A515-58M-77DY (purchased on March 7, 2024)
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this Acer notebook. Even when purchasing it in Malaysia, I was misled. I was assured that the device was powerful and reliable, but my experiences have been different.
The biggest issue is the heat development. The notebook gets very warm very quickly, especially on the left side where the hard drive is located. I was surprised that a hard drive could produce so much heat. This heat development significantly affects usage, as it becomes uncomfortable to have the notebook on your lap, and even when on a table, the left palm gets uncomfortably warm.
I also use the notebook in Indonesia, where temperatures are naturally very hot. The additional heat development of the device makes working with it uncomfortable. It is disappointing that Acer did not take more technical measures to avoid these problems.
Another major issue concerns the USB ports. Despite the notebook being turned off and the corresponding settings in the Acer Sense app, the USB ports remain active. This means that external devices such as a hard drive stay active even when the notebook is shut down. This should not happen.
Additionally, although the notebook goes into standby mode, it wakes up with any key press. Despite adjusted settings, this problem persists as the USB ports' mouse connection activates the system. Therefore, I cannot use the standby mode at all, as the notebook keeps waking up without my knowledge.
This problem is poorly thought out by Acer and is widely discussed in various Acer forums and online. It seems to be a widespread hardware issue and not an isolated case.
Lastly, I would like to mention that I had a larger hard drive installed in the original Acer shop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, upon my request - from 500 GB to 1 TB. I paid extra for this. However, the device had to be opened and the system reinstalled. As a result, I now have no warranty on the device, which was not communicated to me during the installation in the Acer shop. This is extremely disappointing, as I purchased the device originally with a receipt from the Acer shop.
I have already bought four different devices from the Aspire 5 series in the last 8 years and have been very satisfied with all the others. They were very reliable and worked for a long time. However, this device seems to be an exception, and I am very disappointed with it.
