It's called food aggression, some kitties are more defensive with their food than others. They do that to alert other animals not to mess with them and their meal :D
Normal for stray cats and pet cats who are outdoors often. Surveillance mechanism. My pet cat is outdoor 18-24 hours a day and when it eats it's like this, even if the food is safely on the deck or inside the house itself
