I am always honored to be a guest on this channel. Thank you to all the positive comments. You folks are awesome!
John Hancock Id probably add Dinosaurs for Hire. Great stupid game. Gem of my childhood!
Have you ever played phelios? No one ever talks about it and it's a great game
Great to see I'm not the only one who though Buck Rodgers was awesome.
Target Earth
Doom Troopers was a Mutant Chronicles card game and that Sega game was the embarrassingly awful video game adaptation. It is absolutely horrid and ugly. But not as bad as the movie!!!
Dammit, John Hancock! Just when I thought I've played every Genesis game you bust out a few games I've never heard of. Gotta find Light Crusader.
Love you Riggs. Light Crusader is amazing.
Omg!! The dude owns every sg games that were released in the US. Holy shit
Sick games indeed, isometric games with good animations and graphics ? I'm on it.
It's a game from Treasure, and If you know your sega genesis you gotta love that Gunstar Heroes and of course the best looking/hardware-intensive game on the system: Alien Soldier. They rock!
Because John Hancock is THE man
Light Crusader must be mine. Holy shit those animations are gorgeous for a Genny game. Great work as always MJR and Immortal One.
The big fly in that game is the difficulty. There is no punishment for dying. You can lose your life infinitely without consequence, and you always stay where you are. I guess it's more of a puzzle game, but why even have HP and healing items and spells if there is no downside to being killed?
Battletech! One of my all time favorites, and actually the first game I got for the genesis back in the day. So cool to see this on the list
I want to thank both Metal Jesus and The Immortal John Hancock for getting me back into retro gaming and collecting. You guys along with Reggie, Kinsey, and the rest of the bunch really brought back that amazing feeling of nostalgia for me. You all are awesome and I really appreciate your content even though my wallet might disagree!
I first played Light Crusader when I had SEGA channel for my Genesis. It was a lot of fun. Another great game by Treasure.
I just discovered Light Crusader myself independently of this video. Well made, fun, rewards diligent exploring, challenging but not broken puzzles (well except one), and you can beat it over a weekend. Had no idea it existed. A true hidden gem!
I'll throw in a few recommendations.
-Haunting Starring Polterguy
-Wiz 'n' Liz
-Mutant League Football
-Bonanza Brothers
-Sub-Terrania
-General Chaos
- Sub-Terrania was actually covered in part 1 and looks really good.
- Bonanza Bros is an phenomenal game: awesome fun for 2-players, easy to play through in an hour and just hilarious. Pretty sure it was well known at the time though.
- General Chaos is covered in part 3: A game I wanted to love as the idea and style is excellent; shame I always found after about 30 minutes it became pretty tedious and lost its novelty.
- Mutant League Football is a good laugh where you often just try to kill enough players on the other team that they have to forfeit the match! I would recommend Mutant League Hockey for those who want faster action or don't know/care how American Football works.
Rambo 3.....ABSOLUTE BEST SEGA GENESIS GAME EVER. PERIOD!
@@TheMultiGunMan Thank you, will try that one tonight. The Genesis was my console of choice growing up so I knew about a lot of these (General Chaos, Mutant League Football, Haunting, etc) but there's a few that people list next to those classics that I haven't tried. Respecting "old timers", I'll play them all!
@@DaddySizeIt Have fun. I loved my Sega Genesis growing up. I'm collecting for it again now. I like finding the hidden gems that I never knew about before.
I love that you take the time to include game play for each game. much appreciated and we'll done guys!
I had no Idea Al from "Home Improvement" was such a fan of Sega
I remember seeing "Toki: Going Ape Spit" and "Steel Empire" being featured as playable games in episodes of the Nickelodeon game show "Nick Arcade". :D
Great segment! Really enjoyed this one.
Thank you so much for covering Skeleton Krew! I've been been trying to remember what this game was called for so long now, and I couldn't find mention of it anywhere. I used to play it as a kid on Sega Channel. Even back then I had never heard of the game before, so I thought it was gonna be bad (a lot of the games on Sega Channel were not so good). But it was great! I loved that game. One of my favorite games on the Genesis at the time. But then my Sega Channel subscription ended, and I never saw the game again until now, 25 years later. Thank you so much for taking me back! The nostalgia is very real.
Great vid. You had several of my recommendations on here as well as some I have never heard of. Immortal and Light Crusader are awesome.
Excellent list, most of which I hadn’t heard of before but now must check out! Thank you! ❤️🙏🏻
Watching you guys in the same video is just awesome. I love the Genesis so thank you for all the great info. Keep up the great work guys!
Love your episodes together!! Two amazing talents make great videos :)
One of my favorite hidden gems on the Genesis is Gain Ground. You always fight up and pick ip diferent heroes that can sttacl in different directions. some have guns, bows, Spears, rocket launchers, its so much fun!
I love just how happy John Hancock is in this. All smiles, all the time.
I love seeing his collections. Great hidden gems video MJR!
support for you and john! love both of your channels.
Always on the lookout for new Genesis games, this video helped
I love these videos as a reference point when I play my retro pi. I have a running list of games to play thanks to these awesome videos!!
John's channel is dope! Lots of useful info on so much that he owns. He gives advice, info and his opinion as well as facts on everything. Great job and awesome job to MJR for his excellent channel and bringing awesome guests all the time. Thank you so much MJR and everyone that helps make the hidden gems, buying guide, etc videos.
One of my all time favourite systems. The Mega Drive was the system that got me into gaming.
This is great! The Immortal was one of the first games I picked up when I got my Genesis. So good. Sadly, the battery is dead, and it won't boot anymore, but I remember being blown away by this one so many years ago. Seeing the screen shots, it really holds up to this day. I miss the old EA...
Funny - I was just today looking for footage of obscure Sega Genesis games, and found the old video - And lo and behold, you posted a follow-up TODAY! Never watched your channel before, but adding it to my subs. Good stuff!
In hindsight it feels like a precursor to stuff like Dark Souls.. It has the same sorta vibe..
I had Red Zone. It was one of those games that was far too difficult for a 5-7 year old so I didnt get very far. It was also quite a creepy game and even now gives me the chills seeing it. Im not sure why, maybe because it was quite realistic and when your characters died they were dead forever, no funeral, no mention just you didnt get to play them anymore. The mission goes on in its dark somber way.
The soundtrack when you're in the buildings is a true masterpiece suspense builder
Awesome video. Thank you. I'm just getting back into the Genesis. This was the first 16 bit machine I ever played and I'm absolutely going to be hunting for these hidden gems. Great video.
4:27 So many great memories of playing this game with my brother when we were kids. Thanks for jogging my memory of this killer title.
This is what i grew up on and gunstar heroes is one of my favorite games of all time!
I love both your vids! Thanks for the gems John!
Yeeees! I was looking for Toki: Going ape spit for ages. I remember it from my childhood, that it was a super tripy game, but could never remember the title. Thanks for this!
Light Crusader Rules. I spent a lot of time with that game growing up. I'm gonna have to play it now. You guys are the Best. I'm subscribed to both of your channels and I watch all of your videos. Thank you!
UNREAL! There was a game I played as a kid that I absolutely loved, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember. I didn't even know where to start looking. It was The Immortal!! Thank you for posting this video. John Hancock is a nostalgic hero.
The Sega Genesis is my favorite console of all my life.
Ernest Evans, Moonwalker, El Viento, Valis, Contra Hard Corps, Altered Beast, Atomic Runner, 2020 Super Baseball, RBI 2 and 3, Gunstar Heroes, Thunder Force 3, Altered Beast, Golden Axe 1 and 2, Kabuli Mistycal Fighter, Quakshot, Street of Rage 1 and 2, Shinobi 3 (one of the favorite game of all mi life, awesome music), Revenge of Shinobi, Eswat, Last Battle, Buster Douglas Boxing, Pat Riley Basketball, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, Sonic 1, 2 and Sonic and Knucles, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Growl, Fighting Master, Fatal Fury 1 and 2, Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition, Toki, Earthworm Jim, Dinamite Duke and many, many games.
One day, she come back to me. Sniff.
You can only like Ernest Evans with nostalgia glasses.
Rambo 3.....ABSOLUTE BEST SEGA GENESIS GAME EVER. PERIOD!
Sweet! I recently brought a copy of The Immortal too 😊 Great video as always
You've got great taste John! Going very deep in the catalogue. Awesome!
You two make a great team. I want to see more MetalJesus/John video game reviews. Keep up the good work.
John Hancock may be the only person I've ever seen to surpass my love for SEGA. I'm getting back into the swing of collecting again, and these videos are helping me to remember some of my old favorites.
Love the videos, my first time seeing Metal Jesus was the "Working at Sierra" video. I gotta drop a sub.
I haven't played a Sega Genesis for over 20yrs. Since I was a small child baby. Thank you my friend for letting me realize how great, awesome and unique that console truly is. Next day I'm off I'm going to get me that there console and hopefully will be able to find some sweet games.
Skeleton Crew! That's the game I've been looking for from my childhood. Thanks a bunch.
Wow, I'm amazed that I've actually only heard of 2 of these. Some pretty cool looking games.
Good video; Toki and Steel Empire (aka. Empire of Steel) are 2 incredible games I used to play a lot and highly recommend. Compelling gameplay and excellent soundtracks. Like the look of Light Crusader, Battletech and Doom Troopers, so I may have to check them out.
Awesome video! Glad to see another quality upload from you! You're a huge inspiration for my youtube channel! Keep doing what you're doing!
Yeah Light Crusader! One of the best megadrive/genesis games for me. Has also a real cool intro and well made music.
Strider, Contra Hard Corps, and A Haunting Starring PoulterGuy were my favorites!
Great tip on Light Crusader (never heard of it). Never figured out what was so good about Toki, but I really like it and glad someone else does do. Thanks for the video!
Playing through 'Light Crusader' right now. Cool game; great atmosphere.
Light Crusader was the game my bros and I played on Sega Channel. Took turns passing the controller, figuring out the puzzles with those wonky controls. Eventually found a used copy at a video rental store. Good time...
Skeleton Krew was another one we played a lot on Sega Channel
I really enjoy your content and have been hooked on Retro gaming. I initially when I was a lot younger played on the Atari. I totally missed out on Sega Genesis and when I got the Sega Genesis Mini I was for the most part impressed and enjoyed a few of the games. I have been online and played a lot of the other games via my MacBook Air too. Thank you for keeping my interest up in gaming..... Dave Rogis, Fulton, IL
Hey MetalJesusRocks, new subscriber. Your videos are AWESOME! Keep up the good work my man!
Sweet! I found a Model 2 Genesis a couple months ago so I'll be looking for these games when I go game hunting! Thanks for the video guys :)
Doom Troopers was such a cool game back then, I still remember the first level by heart.
The Immortal One the great John Hancock!! Another great video from MJ and the man himself.
YESS thanks Metal Jesus I've been waiting for this video its really good thanks man.
If you want to get any far in battletech, play it two in player mode. First player controls top of the robot and weaponry, while second player does the walking. Benefits are that in two player mode, you do not have to walk in direction you shoot, so you can run away while shooting at danger.
I loved Battletech. Thanks for the flashback.
amazing video - I absolutely love Genesis.
John Hancock is back!
Good stuff, I'll have to look into some of these :)
Guys u should show Robocop VS Terminator and Maximum Carnage! These are so freakin' awesome!
Mr.Dododi The MegaDrive version of Robocop vs Terminator is 100000000 better then it’s SNES counterpart with it’s awesome 16bit gore.
I love battletech and basically any mech based games. I'm happy to own a bunch in my collection. Lots of great side scrolling mech games like metal warriors and cybernator are right up my alley.
Awesome list!
I love these episodes even if some of the games i dont like its cool to see games i never heard of
I love John's enthusiasm!
Well done as always mate.
That's such a boss thumbnail image. You guys rock!
could u please make a genesis buying guide!!!!
Good stuff, my collection so far has mainly been limited to handheld consoles and I was surprised to find out how cheap Mega Drive/Genesis systems are. Got the Mega Drive 1 from eBay for around 20 bucks although I had to look for the cables and controllers separately which cost me about the same amount as the console, but it seemed like the better option as I really wanted the original model as it has a much nicer retro look to it
I am planning on getting a multicart to start out with though, I really don't feel like throwing a lot of money on cartridges right now and rather look for them over time and it's a good way to start
Awesome selection!
I wish I could find these games when I hit up yard sales. But all I can ever find are sports games. Only sorts games that make me even a tad interested are hockey or soccer games. Great video guys! Looking forward to part 2!
When I was a teenager, I had the TOKI catridge for Mega Drive. I LOVED IT!!!!!! It's really one of the best games from the complete list. I still remember it as one of my good memories from videogames I played as a boy. I have it now, but on the Sega Génesis emulator.
I have Light Crusader too and I love it sometimes the puzzles can drive a person nuts buts it´s very good.
I loved Buck Rogers on the genesis. Played that a ton when I was young!
It was great to see you guys meet up and discuss some titles I was not aware of. would love to have a beer with you guys I could listen all night!
Skeleton Crew looks SICK! So does Growl. Really great Gems ep.
Always good to see hidden gems videos, always. Even if I don't have the console.
Plus John Hancock is a win!!!
never heard of these games. some of these games i have to give a try, nice list guys!
"Chakan The Forever Man" and "King Of The Monsters 2."
Light Crusader absolutely a hidden gem. LOVE that game!!!
Buck Rogers was one of my favorite games as a kid. It was the science fiction version of Pool of Radiance, another of my favorites. When I think of Genesis, the first games that come to mind are: Shining Force, Warsong, General Chaos, Herzog Zwei, Buck Rogers, and King's Bounty.
I sold my SEGA collection back in the day for a PS2 and two games, Vertical Fighter 4, and Tecken 4. I have been trying to rebuy my collection back from my childhood.almost complete again. But I also aqiyered some new games in the process. I am a SEGA kid and always will be.
Steel Empire was one of my favorite Genesis games growing up.
I can't wait to see a Sega Genesis buying guide and best games video here on this channel.
love your channel!
Pretty cool, I never heard any of theses games before. Might check some of them out.
This is one of the greatest lists ever put together.
Very cool to see a second or two of screen time given to the SSI Games, most especially Curse of the Azure Bonds. Also fantastic books in the TSR Forgotten Realms series.
Great job guys! keep it up.
Love these hidden gem shows!
Good video man! I love John Hancock 😀
u make my day man, i love videogames, but is so hard to find origimnal ones on my city, but i can emulate, an if i find them, i buy it, awesome channel, i miss my oldie psp :(.Congratulations awesome colecction
Never got the chance to play much on a Sega consoles but these titles really caught my interest. I'm looking to collect/explore for consoles I never got a chance to play and these games are titles that I'm looking for.
On a side note, I think it would be a great addition to talk about what other ports there are, aside from the aforementioned console. I'm assuming since these are genesis hidden gems that they might be exclusive but it sounded like several might have been on SNES too. That info would give more people a chance to play these if the don't have the right gear. just a suggestion.
thanks, looking forward to part two.
One title I would suggest, if it isn't already planned for a future episode, is a game called Chiki Chiki Boys (Also known as Mega Twins I think...). Pretty solid platformer. Good work, I owe a big part of my collection to suggestions made by your hidden gems videos.
This will be so helpful! I'm getting a genesis from a friend
Love the Buck Rodgers game! Played it to the end.
Some sweet games. I'll check some of those out!
Love how the "Marauder" in Battletech is flying like a "Battlepod" from Robotech :)
Strider, Final Zone And Robo Kid was some of my Hidden Gems For Megga Drive i had the JPN Genesis import love this vid
SAS Degnen love robo kid. Not sure if strider is a hidden gem though. Pretty well known
I remember first playing Red Zone on the old Sega Channel and being very impressed with that intro. The gameplay a little less so, but was still a solid title. How about Virtual Pinball as a Hidden Gem? From EA and Bill Budge (creator of the Pinball Construction Kit for Apple II and C64) you had 29 tables you could customize to your liking, and 10 slots where you could create your own tables and save them to battery backup.
Great fun.
Glad to see the beard is back John!
Great ep loved it
Thanks for the cool video. I would love you guys do an arcade/ neogeo brawlers round-up video. AVP, Final Fight, Cadillacs and Dinossaurs, etc. I know there is so much good stuff needing to be uncovered.
