    Recently was given a bag of scraps. Used them in triangle shapes. 🔺️ 60 degree ruler, Had interfacing as foundation. Did super long piano key effect like here.
    Made a rable runner, Added a border after attaching with a QAYG method.
    Things I learned as I progressed.
    1. Presort into sizes or colours or both.
    2. Iron a big batch at a time.
    3. Sew and press ech step as you did here really helps lay things flat especially smaller sizes.
    4. Pin where needed for matching, yes thumbs 👍 up
    5. Whether you pre design or wing it, have fun. Your design was lovely, any sewing is therapy
    6.I never store scraps in a heap, always sorted out and laid flat in sized bags cubes or boxes. It cuts down ironing time by taking the time to sort and store in advance.
    7. I learned that by pressing back the latest added strip before cutting will be more accurate and save fabric from making too tiny scraps being left over.
    8. Personally i wouldn't have trimmed those muslin squares until after sewing on my strips but i can see reasons why you did it. My project had full coverage not a gap for the white to show. To me you added extra work by trimming twice.

    I love the look of this quilt with the framed piano keys. It surprises me that you don't premeasure your border cuts - I'd end up with wavy edges for sure.

    • @revelationquilts
      @revelationquilts  Před rokem

      I'm not sure what you mean by pre-measuring. I figure out how many inches (or strips) I will need to go all the way around, then round up. I then sew one long strip. Then I sew on the border onto the first side. I cut the end even with the edge of the quilt. Then I do the opposite side. After that I do the same with the top and the bottom of the quilt. I usually square up the quilt before I sew the border on.

    • @martinagraham3792
      @martinagraham3792 Před rokem
