  • Away you rolling river!! This is an American traditional song that was often used as a capstan shanty. We’ve been singing it for years, and hope you enjoy this rendition

@@KweektheGeek I can really hear that "it feels right" element in the fascinatingly meticulous pronunciation of Shenandoah. It's "shennindoh" (with a little variation from local accent) to US southerners. Mentioning that only in case someone is curious b/c I FERVENTLY support TLJ's approach here. Forced duplication of a regional pronunciation in a folk/traditional song is awful. Getting reshaped a bit while moving from place to place is the lifeblood of these old treasures, and they did a beautiful job with an all-time favorite here.

The best version to look up for reference (so far?) is by 'Scatter The Mud'. Its a song about a ship in a terrible storm. There's actually some debate about the title, which can either mean, 'With Lurrighan' or 'On the Lurrighan'. No one knows for sure if Lurrighan is the name of the captain or the ship.
