Hah! I do not teach any of the death metal growls (or Tibetan monk chant/throat singing, which is a precursor to this). Ironically, I just attended a 3-day training course in CA with a celebrity voice coach, on CCM singing styles and techniques. She presented literally every kind of scream and growl in every genre. However, like her, we usually send rock singers to a specialized course in screaming. My specialty is fixing the vocal fold damage after singers perform with incorrect technique! Our hope is that all performers, singers and non-singers alike, will come for training to develop the proper techniques, before any damage is caused.
