Tuxing Oil - Water Separator/Filter for HPA/PCP Air Tank

  • Last weekend was the first time I attempted to fill my new 74 cu ft HPA air tank. Took it in stages to not overwork the compressor as well as changing water.
After I was at about 300 bar (~3,300 psi), I called it a day. Noticed that there was moisture at the tank bleed valve and when I checked my 2 stage filters, stage one was wet and oily and stage two was also wet with some oil as well.
Tested the air and sure enough, had some water (and probably some oil in it as well), so I drained the tank and left it open to dry (doesn't help the oil though).
Also ordered the Tuxing water/oil separator. This thing is huge compared to my first/second stage filters.
I also need to change the filters in my stage 1/2 devices after 15-20 minutes of usage or less. Order more filters to save the tank! Still learning and hope nothing blows up ;-0

Mount your setup vertically and have your tank upright. Meaning make it harder for the water to get up into the tank inlet.
Then after charging and air has been released, open your 3 different filter stages and drain/air out.
    Thanks for the video

Your 3rd stage filter ( the brass one) should be in a vertical position while charging the tank not laying down so that any water and oil will stay in the bottom of the colum.

    Great video!
Using a Yong Heng compressor and an 88 cubic foot scba tank,
I was able to fill from zero to just over 4,500psi in just over 80 minutes. I ran the compressor for 15 minutes at a time,
and took cool down breaks between 15 min and 30 min depending on temperatures. As far as filtration,
I only used the OEM moisture/oil separator that came in-lined with the compressor. I did get moisture, but, not too bad.
Later this week, I'll be working on a bigger / hybrid filtration unit, so in the end, there will be a small and large filter
using both cotton and Molecular Sieve. I think that'll be the best bet to limit any sort of contaminants [moisture / oil]

I limit the time for my compressor to run, allowing for a certain amount of "cool down"...it takes a bit longer but i have a little bit more peace of mind(even if its just a placebo)

I like your videos, very well done. 300 bar means 300 x 14.7 (atmospheric pressure) so 300 x 14.7 is really 4400 psi.

Air from these small compressors contains water, oil, smoke from burned oil (most oils burn spontaneously in high pressure air), and 100% humidity (water vapor). The filters being used here will gather liquids and some of the smoke particles but not the water vapor. The last filter should be one that grabs water vapor such as a molecular sieve. Using high pressure compressor type oil will eliminate the smoke and burned oil. Happy Shooting!

Thanks for the detailed info. I have since replaced the small double filters (along with keeping the long gold filter) with a single small initial filter (due to leaks) with my second stage filter being the cotton filled gold filter/tube in this video and my third stage filter being a combo filter (externally looks identical to the long gold filter in this video) that has charcoal, desiccant and I can't recall the third material at this exact moment - I believe I did a video on that filter as well. Doing all I can to let the cleanest and most dry air enter the tank.

@@ReLoadersBench Sounds like a breathing air filter which is good but less optimal for airguns. The molecular sieve is the most useful component (most effective at removing water vapor from high pressure air), so the other materials are taking space in the filter and reducing the drying effectiveness and capacity of the filter by a factor of 2 or so. If they are changed frequently enough the moisture will be controlled, using only sieve will allow twice as long between services or provide twice the margin and longer for the moist air to interact with the sieve material increasing effectiveness. The other optimization is to add a pressure maintaining valve after the last filter to force the moisture separator to operate at high efficiency and reduce the moisture that reaches the sieve at low pressures which can quickly overwhelm the sieve's capacity. Always good to have dry clean air for the tanks and airguns!

Yikes, that's a ton of oil in those filters which seems like they should be changed before they become entirely saturated (at which time the oil is headed downstream). Hopefully the oil reservoir isn't overfull or the piston rings aren't working properly, etc. Hope your third stage does the trick :)

Dear Re loader love your videos.
    One question.
I got The Tuxing Oil water saparator filter. (Same as yours)
Doesn't pass air ,does it have to build pressure . To pass to the other side? My was at 2000 psi and no air to the side of the hose (where it connect to my pcp air tank.)
    Thank you.
    Great informative videos.👍

    • @ReLoadersBench
      @ReLoadersBench  Před 5 lety +2

I would try to isolate the problem. Do you have any other filters between the compressor and the Tuxing gold separator? Unscrew the filter on one side so you can verify air is getting to the filter from the compressor. If the compressor is not building pressure, could it be a compressor issue? Take all filters off and just use a "dead head" (not sure the correct name, but it's a brass fitting that essentially blocks air, so you can quickly build pressure in the compressor's line) attached to the fill line on the compressor to see if everything is working as it's supposed to.

(sorry if I name it wrong) at the end of the hose where the( female foster fitting) is there's a white seal inside ,ok the seal didn't have a hole so the air couldn't pass thrue.
One again thank you for your help.

I like your video and would like to see your follow up video. I have a Omega Supercharger and also have a Air Venturi Nomad2. I also have the large Omega Cartridge Filter that has a non-fiber cartridge filter that has four different stages of materials to the cartridge. I have yet to utilize my equipment. I'm wondering with all these filer devices you have hooked up how much time and running of the compressor occurs. It seems to me that your setups would indeed require a lot of compressor running. When you go to purge the lines it would it not you be a enormous amount of air lost ion doing so. I have a lot of money tied up in fiver top quality PCP rifles let alone the high cost of my compressors. I finally will have the time to work with my Rifles but I for one are concerned as to safely and properly utilizing such High Pressure rifles and devices. Your reply would be appreciated and have you completed your follow up video?

Does anyone have the small Tuxing compressor that is air cooled...also 4500 psi. Was wondering if it would push air through that size filter! It does fine topping off pcp's to 3000 psi and only takes about 3 minutes. Around 5 minutes if its empty!

    300 BAR is about 4,350.
Even though it's advertised as being 4,500... that compressor won't last as long pushing it to that pressure.
Regardless of how cool it runs, I wouldn't run it for more than 15 min, max at a time.

Hope you were able to get your money back on the rusted/missing filters purchase. I looked around and saw there were a number of similar offerings and decided on the Tuxing as I was satisfied with their compressor quality and felt comfortable buying their filter, especially with their branding on the side and what looked like was included. Mine came with two filters in the tube, as well as a set of spare filters (that was a surprise to me or I missed the additional filters in the description as they are ~$30 in other listings for a set of 2 I believe) and O-rings. Happy with my decision to go with Tuxing.

After just recently getting my compressor and finding out the stock filter does next to nothing as far as separating water, I have 2 more smaller filters on order, they’re like the stock one. My plan is to use cotton/molecular sieve/desiccant beads in each. Decreasing the amount of cotton up through the filters and increasing the amount of molecular sieve. It was a cheaper route than getting the long, gold one similar to yours but with the enclosed sieve inside. Hope it works just as well. Hope you’re getting good results with yours. If you want to follow along with my project, I’m at “Cheap Airgunner “ on CZcams.

  • @steventhompson3507

I really can't understand why peoe are wasting time on those white moisture filters when what is actualy required is an empty space and a tap at the bottom of the water separator with dessicant or molecular sieve medium at the mid to top end. And whilst I'm pionting that out those separators will also work more effectively if stood verticaly with inlet at the base and outlet uppermost. It really straightforward logic that as the pressure rises the water will condense out of the air and go to the lowest piont where it can be drained off manually whilst pumping is in progress.also like I pionted out water will be passing almost unhindered through the entire system untill it reaches such a pressure that it is forced out from between the molecules of air. So technically the ideal situation would be to have a regulator between the water separator output and the tank that you are filling so that the water is aways being wrung out of the air before your tank even begins accepting a gradual fill. But it does require for the compressor to constantly be running at the pressure that you intend on filling your tank to or greater and the regulator will gradualy open as the two sides of the system gradualy equalize.
