Actually the origin of this topic is much darker. The original creator of hello kitty made her as a marketable plushie. Her daughter had a tumor in the mouth and with no cure, she turned to priests. With no help, she turned to the devil. He offered he could make marketable plushies and he'd heal her. He did but she changed and had a dark aura. She disposed of all the plushies in her house and that is what killed her. It's believed since the deal was broken, she immediately died. The reason hello kitty has no mouth is because the daughter had a tumor. As for the name, it's actually a saying in Chinese as a reference to greeting the devil. This whole plushie is evil. You should read the story.
