- Rodney Dangerfield was one of the Tonight Show’s most frequent guests, appearing on the show more than 70 times. For each appearance he spent up to three months working up new material. On August 30, 1977 Rodney kicked things off with a few minutes of standup in front of the rainbow curtain, and then onto the couch for a laugh-filled interview with Johnny.
1:05 “My doctor, he don't help either. He told me to run five miles a day for two weeks. I called him up, I said ‘Doc, I'm 70 miles from my house!’”
2:37 “I'll tell ya, I never had any luck with animals either, you know? When I was a kid in my sandbox, the cat kept covering me up.”
4:03 “Right now I'm looking forward to a very exciting new venture. It's not definite yet, she just moved to my building.”
6:53 “I met a sexy girl a few weeks ago, worked in a restaurant making hamburgers. She told me she could make a Big Boy in three minutes and a boy big in two minutes.”

Rodney is one of those rare people you couldn’t imagine him doing anything else other than what he’s doing here.
A legend that will never be replaced or duplicated. Even when he sat down with Johnny his act went on!
Suzanne Pleshette laughing at his jokes makes this one of my all-time favorite Rodney clips.
@@chriswesterfield2042 Her voice is, just listen.
@@chriswesterfield2042 She most certainly is. She is seated to his right. That is her.
This kind of humor is what we need today... Rest in peace Rodney, and Johnny.
The fruitloops would definitely try canceling them both today.
nobody like them
AMEN 🙏
And Dean Martin. Ed Sullivan show. (No,I never got to watch any of their shows.....that was WAY before my time......) .
"Whaddya mean heaven's full?" the moment Rodney Dangerfield had died, the Holy Trinity had said "We're sorry, heaven not good for you. And hell's would be scared of him.
Sent him to purgatory."😅😅😅
What,no rim shot?😮😮😮
@@jimoleesyt1577 They could try,but if we get lucky, then it would be like "Close, but no cigar." 😃.
Just like what happened to Married With Children.
Back when we could still poke fun at ourselves and we weren't so serious all the time. Rodney was the KING
Time has made me appreciate that I was able to see Rodney live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in the early ‘80’s (great seats and he was sweating like crazy) I remember: “I come from a real stupid family...during the Civil War my great-grandfather fought for the West”.
Dr. Vinny Boombotz. One of the best names ever in comedy.
not to mention his nephew, the lawyer, Nicki Pompanice
I think that's Donald Trump's doctor too🤣😂
The Surgeon General offered me a cigarette. What a line. RIP Rodney.
More like Uncle Bernie's, Adonis. Get your TDS checked...
@@TedH. He did that same joke for President Reagan at his inaugural. Reagan went nuts.
I love the way Jonny works with Rodney and agrees with him and doesn’t ask questions just letting Rodney do his thing totally classic!!!
What classics . Wish he was around today
almost no one in comedy history has ever got 8 1/2 minutes on Johnny Carson. Rodney was brilliant.
"Doctor, I'm 70 miles from my house!" LOL!
My favorite comedian! I Love Rodney! How could anyone give him a thumbs down. No respect!
I tell ya.
@ekimshield y
Rodney once said: Siskel and Ebert(movie critics) gave him the one finger(pointed upwards).
They give it a thumbs down Because they hate REAL comedy
Lol too true!
Vinnie Boombots-NEVER gets old!
The way he covered up the harrowing nature of his childhood with brilliant comedy was amazing. RIP Rodney.
Over I.
Johnny Carson was not only a great comedian, he was also one of the greatest "straight man" in comedy. For a fun experiment, close your eyes, after Rodney sits down on the couch, and listen to Carson murmuring prompts and themes. Two brilliant comics. God bless them both.
I agree. Carson was highly underrated as a comedy artist.
This is what made dangerfield on Carson show so good... Johnny which just kinda play off whatever Rodney was saying in almost an agreeing matter which stemmed Rodney to just keep firing those hits... It was so well done and so subtle..
Gotta hand it to Leno to try and carry that same torch when Rodney was on his show too.. he tried to do same thing thing but Johnny was ultimately better at it
@@flash67 Excellent point. I agree wholeheartedly.
Rodney kept it going. I don't know how he did it. What a rhythm.
Yeaa he did!;) he had and more...;) hes mind was full of jokes. Man!;)
That's the cool thing about one-liners. If one falls flat, just wait for the next one.
Dangerfield. The type of humor that only comes around once in your life time if you're fortunate! Also, Suzanne Pleshette's laugh was awesome!
Not a human lifetime but the planet Earth’s lifetime!
Hardly anyone made Johnny laugh as much as Rodney.
Carson's skill as host is never more evident than when Dangerfield appears. Compare Rodney's appearances with Leno, Letterman, etc. with Dangerfield on Carson. Carson was the perfect straight man, always feeding him with lines or reactions to make Dangerfield funnier and faster. Other hosts respected Dangerfield too much, and seemed to be in awe of him. Consequently, they did not react fast enough or feed him leading lines. Dangerfield's appearances with other hosts had more dead intervals-even with Leno.
Carson 's skill was listening. The other hosts only listened to themselves.
Maybe rich little
Rickles!
Burt Reynolds made Johnny crack up.... I love Rodney
The very best stand up comedian of all time!!!!!
Johnny cackling at the "Big Boy" joke killed me 😂
40 years. Where did they go? Hysterical and not a single F bomb.
r toman
exactly right. The modern comic is talentless compared to earlier generations.
r toman Rodney's live act was full of F-Bombs
Michael Modes, yes. But this stand up routine did not.
Just because you people are out of touch and don't bother to actually look for anything that isn't shoved in your face doesn't mean good comics don't exist anymore. But who are we kidding. You folks are so bitter, you'll talk shit on any comic no matter how good they are.
r toman, unless you stub your toe in a desk.
Rodney was the best', it is so nice to see a real comic.
The good old days of comedy....and Rodney was among the best of the best....RIP Rodney.
...hes sits down with Johnny after his standup and he keeps going!
Rodney was funnier after he sat down.
Johnny's in on it. 🤗
I love it when he turns to the crowd after a big laugh and says: "You're alright!"
The most respected guy in show business.
He was really on fire with his hilarious jokes that night. One of his BEST Tonight Show performances. What a Master Comedian who is dearly missed on a show that is also dearly missed.
One of the goat no matter how depressed I get rodney dangerfield always makes me laugh
the curtain and the furniture are just awesome. Reminds me of being a kid again
I LOVE THIS MAN.THERE IS NO ONE,WHO CAN EVEN COME CLOSE TO "RODNEY"...HE ALWAYS HAD MY "RESPECT"...REST IN PEACE, THANKS FOR THE LAUGHS.
SAY HELLO TO JOAN RIVERS.😇🌟😢
R.D. The man, the comedy legend! Lots and loads of laughs in heaven! Salute!
He was a stand up GENUS!!!
Andrew King yes I in Genius
holy shit man!!!! the sandbox... I was on the floor cryin!
Did Rodney ever look any different? I swear from the early 70s to 2000, his looks never changed. What a classic.
No one is better than him!
Rodney was the master.

G.
mixer14316 Definitely!!!!!!
Forever Rodney!
mixer14316 ....bater !! You know, as a true Dangerfield fan, I couldn't let that one slide through!! LOLOL!! ITHANKYAVERYMUCH 😁
King of the one liners! Absolutely amazing! What talent!! R.I. P.
Dangerfield was so good that even Carson starts to sweat at about the 7:00 mark. Relentless.
The hangdog delivery with the 1-2 punch, the expressive features, perfect timing, setting up his next shot. Great jokes with the comic looks.
What's the matter can't you think of anyone neither? I literally laughed out loud, Rodney Dangerfield was the best!
The greatest of all time!!
1 of the greatest!
he was the king seen him live new years 1981 my ribs are still hurtin!
One liner after one liner, building on the previous...this is comedy genius! I tell you they want to make my family a sequel to "Roots." They wanna call it "Fertilizer!"
Heh,
Rodney,
Rest in peace.
You just cracked me up for about the millionth time.
So good to see Johnny Carson also.
We all could sure use your humor today.
Miss you both.
Eric Clenney
The greatest stand up comedian in history...period. 👍
He has me in tears..I had to pause this because I was laughing so hard
God bless Johnny and Rodney.
too late, the heathens are dead and attending the ultimate burning man experience ~
Accretion Disk Really? You got a link to an article or something like that.
I heard on the Rodney's biography. Rodney sold over 50k of aluminum siding orders to customers in 2 years!
Watching Rodney and Johnny is like watching a NBA fast break. Rodney has the ball and passes it to Johnny , Johnny gets it and lobs it up in the air , Rodney goes up and slams it through the net, crowd goes wild!
"Last week I met the Surgeon General. He offered me a cigarette." Sublime.
Rodney was the king...straightest ties in show business!!
Of course his ties were straight. He kept adjusting them every five seconds. I've always wondered if that was by design as a way to put an exclamation point on his jokes or if it was an unconscious twitch he did.
JasonL77 thats the joke you fucking armchair
Johnny was the best straight man Rodney ever had.
Gene Burnett Yep. Perfect straight man for Rodney. I tell ya Johnny I got it rough. .....Rough, huh? I met a girl who was so fat....Large girl was she? Johnny set him up and Rodney knocked them out of the park. Those were the days. Could never get away with that rice joke these days. PC culture is so fucked up.
Gene Burnett Johnny was the greatest straight man period!
Who was the best gay man?
My favorite of all time. We could use his humor in these sad times.!!
Love You Rodney ✝👍 you were the best and i look forward to watching these clips over and over because they are simply that good 👍 Shout Out to his family... Thank You for allowing these on CZcams much appreciated 👍 They just make my day. 😊
impecable timing
This guy is a phenomenal comedy genius..no swearing..finally some good tears building in my eyes until...😂😂😂😂😂👌
Rodney Dangerfield headstone says there goes the neighborhood Rodney even after death still making us laugh
I could hear Rodney's spirit saying:
"Even in the Afterlife, I don't get no respect......
When I arrived at the Pearly Gates, I was told to wait an eternity to get in!"
@@hamilton59840 👍👍👍😂😂😂 truth
I met this girl she said: I don't do this nooormally... I said that's alright, I'm a little weird myself you know. Classic!
Never be another Rodney, never!!!
Never have another one like Rodney
Amin to that.
Rodney was the King!
THE GREATEST EVER NO DOUBT.
His biggest desire was just to make everybody laugh!
there will NEVER be another Rodney again. A pure genius and very funny.. unlike 95% of comedians today. This guy was a talent. I miss him so much.
4 sure
Facts
Pure comedy without any cuss words
Rodney!! King of the one liners! He's everyman.
Wherever I need a good laugh I watch videos old videos of Rodney Dangerfield.
Thank you again Rodney for making me laugh....God bless him.
there will never be an other combo like rodney and johnny
Absolute King of Comedy ! Rodney is great.
Rodney made it look so easy, even cracked up Johnny numerous times.
Rodney dangerfield pure gold
"Always nice to end on a low note." Nice!
Awesome guy love Dangerfield. Strikes me as a fun loving good hearted dude.
"Cant you think of anyone either"!!! Brilliant.
Rodney was stand-up comedian who was just as funny sitting down. 🤣😅😆😄
My favorite comedian of all time. RIP Rodney.
Nobody made Johnny laugh like Rodney did
I could watch these clips a million times
Karl Malden line KILLED me🤣😎
Thank you sir for sharing some of the funniest moments in comedy!!!!Rest in peace Mr.Dangerfield!!!!
King of one liners
Rodney always struck me as someone who was tormented by his insecurities (even after making it big) and so turned those insecurities into an endless supply of comedic material, knowing all the while it would resonate with a large audience composed of people who were plagued by their own insecurities yet too afraid to admit it.
Don't say this much, but he was a genius. Few as funny.
Exactly right. Took his immense pain from life, and became an overnight sensation after 40 years of trying and failing.
He did suffer from depression most of his life. As a result, he made us feel happy.
2yttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt2yt
Well I must be very insecure, I think he's hilarious 😂
The only comedian who does his routine, non stop, sits down, and does another one non stop.
Funniest man ever! Itțs not just on the stage, but in real life, he was sharp and funny as his way of living. Maybe the greatest off all!
Rodney sitting down was just an extension of his stand-up routine. 🤣
Every one of those rapid fire jokes was a work of comedic art by the main man of. Comedy. RIP
actually the joke about the blind date having pigtails under her armpits was "borrowed" from an old Polish joke
Dangerfield is a legend!
Could you imagine Dangerfield, Rickles, Carlin, Kinison and Hicks at a comedy club one night? Holy mackerel that would be beyond epic.
OMG! No one would get out alive! 😂
Don Rickles is the only person that made me laugh when I was alone lol
If only they could all appear for just one evening it would be epic. And include Joan Rivers.
That act is now playing…..in Heaven!
@@morganm9040 Joan rivers lol come on now
6:49 - LMAO! Classic! Thanks for posting and thanks for the good quality.
Johnny loved him
David Bellardo Actually, Rodney and Johnny at first got off on the wrong foot. Johnny was angry and wouldn't give him a chance to get on his show. Rodney eventually had to apologize to get the nationwide audience.
According to Biography, Rodney had accused the Tonight Show writers of stealing one of his jokes, and he made it up to Johnny by getting tickets to some big New York event.
What a great comedian! Rodney had the timing and unexpected response of the greats.
6:55 hardly anybody can make Johnny laugh like that
I thought everyone made Johnny laugh?
luke You missed the significance of Pauls last two words "like that".
Luke Hauser No that's the clown Fallon 😂
Luke Hauser you can see his standard laugh then he breaks character. That was rare
THE BEST. AND HE IS ALL CLEAN.
Doesn't get better than these two together.
I love that woman's laugh sitting next to Rodney. So hearty and infectious.
It was nice to see Suzanne and hear her enjoying Rodney's performance.
A lot of fresh material there. Awesome.
Rodney and Johnny were the best. In fact, the older entertainers had more class than the trash today.
This guy has more jokes than anybody in history
But 195 thumbs down. He still gets no respect
Yes the same exact same😂😂
@MovieClips.
Bruh, I've binges watched hours of this. He change a few and repeat only a couple ...this man is legend bro. All the jokes back to back like drake
He repeat two jokes
from his previous
appearance
Johnny just led him along. LOL
I might butcher this but I my favorite Dangerfield line of all time is "My wife, she likes to talk during sex, why just the other day she called me" It always makes me laugh.
I love the joke where he says he and his wife always smoke after sex. He's had the same pack since 1975. Meanwhile, she's up to three packs a day!
He says, "I met this young girl who called me up and said 'come on over, nobody's home,' so I went over, there was nobody home!"
NeloDiavolo that’s a great one. Also love the one wear he says “my uncles dying wish was for me to sit in his lap. He was in the electric chair”.
One of my favorites was, You know me and my wife are getting old now, just the other day we were laying in bed...and she says Rodney, Rodney, make me laugh..I said you wanna laugh? Go look in the mirror naked.
Í told the cabbie to take me somewhere to get laid for free. He took me to my house!
The greatest ever! Love that guy..
Great stuff from Rodney made even better by Suzanne Pleshette's laughter from the next seat over.
Don't know what's funnier, Rodney or Johnny's reactions !!! 😂
King of one liners.
