I love Snark tuners. They're so intuitive, it's easy to ignore the instructions, but there's a caution everyone should be aware of: "CAUTION: We recommend you remove the Snark tuner from your instrument as soon as you finish tuning. Please be aware that any lacquer type finish can be adversely affected if the rubber pad of tuner is left in contact with the finish for a period of time." For convenience. a friend kept her Snark clipped to the head of her ukulele and it left a very obvious mark where the rubber pad touched the finish.
I just ordered it and i've been looking around to see how it works before it gets here, and I have to say that after seeing this I'm glad I made the purchase:)
These things are sweet! Quickest and easiest way to tune up. I leave mine on the headstock and can quickly check between sets. Two words.. Easy and Accurate!
A nice demo. The SN2 is the best value in clip-on tuners. It's fast, accurate, easy to read, and you can calibrate it to match a harmonica that isn't quite A440. If you use a capo on the first four frets you can use the "flat" mode to compensate to standard tuning. The VIB vibration mode helps you tune in noisy venues. At under $15 (online-free shipping) it's a no-brainer.
LOL. This tuner works AMAZINGLY on a 12 string! I own a music shop, this chromatic tuner will literally tune anything with strings, as long as you know how to use it, and a little about your basic music theory. I myself have tuned countless 12 strings with this exact tuner. So that makes at least one person :)
@SuperJjett The red has a built in microphone to tune non-stringed instruments. The blue and black ones are vibration sensing only, so basically designed for stringed instruments.
Just a tip, when your string starts sharp, tune down past the note and back up. it stays in tune better. Great review though! Ill be picking this tuner up for sure
@alim0715 Depends, it will show B if you are actually playing a B (so if your string is tuned a little high in this case). These tuners are chromatic, so they will show what note you are actually playing.
@baconbut95 Depends on how much you use them. The stock battery is just a cheap one, but a good energizer usually lasts me about 6-8 months in my shop, and we use it every day several times a day.
I am wanting to use the James Taylor tuning method. He recommends tuning the low E to - 12, A to -10, D to -8, G to -4, B to -6 and E to -3. How would I figure this using a Snark Tuner?
So I have a question does the of your guitar for the first tune to the same E as the 6th string or does it tune to the E sharp because that's all the tuner comes up with...
If you are not playing any of the strings, or trying to tune the guitar, the instrument (especially acoustic guitars), will sense the sound vibrations from other tones as well. If you pluck the string though, you will see that the vibration of the strings will easily and completely override any other vibrations that may be in the surrounding enviroment.
My snark doesn't tune perfectly. Do you find this to be a problem? I've had two of them, a regular snark and I now have a super snark. Both of them don't tune to perfect pitch. I am really frustrated...
Great video man, I am about as beginner as it gets so I am unable to tune by ear yet so I picked up one of the Snark chromatic tuners you feature in this video. However, for some reason when I try to tune my guitar the tuner registers as D#, G#, C#, F#, B, C instead of the standard E, A, D, G, B, E. I was just wondering why that is and how I fix this problem? Any input or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Tim
Would i put this on the scroll for a violin? Or in between the pegs? Its been years since I've used a tuner and none of them were ever attached to my violin.
I just saw this thread. Sorry I didn't answer you earlier. Imagine you have figured it out by now. But the Snark will read the note you are actually playing. So if it shows F on the Low E, you are tuned a step to high (sharp), and need to loosen the string until it shows E. Then tune to the center and rock. If this is to late for you, hope it assists someone else :)
I have this tuner and I have tuned every string but the high E and I can't seem to get that one. I have gotten it on E but that string sounds lower than the B and G so I know it's not right. Please help!
(fyi i have an acustic guitar) i bought one on ebay(black) and its new i barley got it buts telling me that the low e strig is an f. could it be the battery? please answer i need your help
@hawg427 Any of them will 'tune' with the Capo attached. This being said, they will tune to the note that is actually being played with the Capo on, not what the guitars tuning would be on open stringing.
@TheBuzzdc For that you should consult a local music instructor and inquire about some basic music theory. You would be tuning to the # of the note that is a full step below, in other words a half step in between the two.
@tigreslokos Your right, I just looked, and it is kind of hard to do it by store. Just type in Snark tuner, our listings will be the ones that say ***WE SHIP WORLDWIDE! ITEM SHIPS WITHIN 24 HOURS!*** in the subtitles. Sorry they make it kind of hard to find. I would put a link here, but youtube prohibits links. Thanks! Pascal
Im having horrible problem with the tuner. I just got it, put the battery in, flicked it on and when i strum nothing happens. 2 bars light up on each side as if they are waiting for me to strum. when i strum nothing happens. PLEASE help me
@siemvandenberg Any flat note is the same as the previous notes sharp (eg. Ab is the same as G#) so you will actually tune all the way down to that note, and tune it to that. So when you tune the Ab, the tuner will show G#, and this is what you want to tune it to. Otherwise, if you tune it the way you describe above, you will be in between the two notes. Hope that helps, this gets into understanding music theory, so some help from a local music teacher might be best :)
@TaylZero It tells you the note you are actually playing, so a g means you are 2 octaves to tight. Best to have a local music store or teacher help you.
I have a question. I'm really confused because I am tuning all the right strings and they all seem to be hitting the middle blue light but when I play the acoustic it is not tuned at all. What am I doing wrong?
No, he's probably just tuning to the wrong notes. Watch the notes that come up on the screen. From the biggest string to the smallest string it should read: EADGBe. Then it will be in tune.
@iiDinnosauriss Means you are a half step flat and need to tighten the string. There is some basic music theory involved here, might be best to seek the help of a local teacher or music store. :)
the other day i got the snark black sn 1 guitar tuner from guitar center for 30 dollars, i just found it on line. and i called gutiar center to see if they will take it back he said yes, thne i told him i found it online for half the money same model number sn1 but its blue. he said its not made as well as the black one so he is saying its junk i think he is lieing to me, iam i right
This works okay with my acoustic but it doesn't sound accurate at all with my electric. It could be the guitar. It's a cool product anyway, and it was only 11$.
make sure you have it set to vibration mode rather than mic. But I have the same problem regardless with my electric as well, Try tuning with 12th fret harmonics instead of open strings

Thanks for the warning. My tuner has been clipped onto the headstock for nearly a week. I didn't know it was possible. No damage yet.
Thanks a bunch, this video was exactly what I needed to see.
Fantastic product.. really fast, easy to read, compact. I love it for my Uke
I just ordered it and i've been looking around to see how it works before it gets here, and I have to say that after seeing this I'm glad I made the purchase:)
These are awesome. I was skeptical about buying one for the stick Dulcimer... but this Vid really helped me out!!! Thanks!!
These things are sweet! Quickest and easiest way to tune up. I leave mine on the headstock and can quickly check between sets. Two words.. Easy and Accurate!
Thanks! Excellent review!
Thanks! Great review...
i just got one today and was 15 bucks and the best tuner i ever bought. dont need to plug it in. just clip it on and tune. i love it

Just bought it today and it also works with a mandolin :D
Love this tuner ;^}
Fantastic!

@TheOutsidersProblem Sure will. If it has strings and you can clip it on, it will tune it.
@T16Akatsuki
Indeed it will, anywhere where it can sense vibration it will work.

Do the blue one works for guitar with low tunings like drop B and drop A?
Would i put this on the scroll for a violin? Or in between the pegs? Its been years since I've used a tuner and none of them were ever attached to my violin.
is there a difference between the Red vs the Blue? is one for instrument and the other for strings???
I just saw this thread. Sorry I didn't answer you earlier. Imagine you have figured it out by now. But the Snark will read the note you are actually playing. @KidBTD You can put it right on the end of the scroll.
How do use it to tune down a half step on guitar so it says E Flat A Flat D Flat and so on.
Hi will the snark tune a banjolele with the resonator attached?
I have a bass and the black Snark tuner. Would it still work with a bass?
I have this tuner and I have tuned every string but the high E and I can't seem to get that one. I have gotten it on E but that string sounds lower than the B and G so I know it's not right. Please help!
What?!! I bought one like this for my cousin's birthday for $29 not including taxes!
(fyi i have an acustic guitar) i bought one on ebay(black) and its new i barley got it buts telling me that the low e strig is an f. could it be the battery? please answer i need your help
Hi can use for piano..? Available in Singapore.?
@yagyu76 I just went to my local music shop and they had these so I picked one up. I'm sure they're in most music stores
@hawg427
Any of them will 'tune' with the Capo attached. This being said, they will tune to the note that is actually being played with the Capo on, not what the guitars tuning would be on open stringing.
and, if you can't put it on the end of the neck, the piezo won't work and it doesn't even pick up the tone....can it be returned for a new pivot?
ok i take your point so why does mine keep going of the scale and seem to get affected by other noises in the house the lights move been someone talks
i have on and it powers on and stuff but it does not pick up any vibration, any suggestions?
Hey Cal,my snark is'nt reading correctly. Low E reads A, and A reads B. Is it broken ?
Mark Botelho your strings just really out of tine
So mine only has a on/off button but also has the metronome feature so how do I use it?
@TheSecrecyOfSolitude Yes it is. CR2032 watch style battery.
@TheBuzzdc For that you should consult a local music instructor and inquire about some basic music theory. You would be tuning to the # of the note that is a full step below, in other words a half step in between the two.
i justt got one todayy at my local music storee & its nott workking outt to well... i would play a note & it wouldnt read it. would it be the battery?
@tigreslokos Your right, I just looked, and it is kind of hard to do it by store. Just type in Snark tuner, our listings will be the ones that say ***WE SHIP WORLDWIDE! Pascal
It's showing my strings are a different name.
For example I pluck the A string & it brings it up as G#
What do I do?
how to get to battery to change it?
Does it only come in blue?
what is the fat piece on the bottom called?
can i tune my guitar in C# with this tuner?
@Pubazoid Just pluck the string at a regular playing strength, and let it ring. The Snark will be able to sense it just fine.
when i tune the 6th string the tuner says its D not E...what to do??
@MountainRockMusic no i mean its telling me some weird stuff like my a is an g or g is an f could it be that that the baterry is low
Im having horrible problem with the tuner. I just got it, put the battery in, flicked it on and when i strum nothing happens. 2 bars light up on each side as if they are waiting for me to strum. when i strum nothing happens. PLEASE help me

Whenever I try to tune my guitar it shows the wrong note.. Help?
Why does my tuner say the wrong string name on the screen when im plucking?
i need help its saying my E string is a C string
@TaylZero It tells you the note you are actually playing, so a g means you are 2 octaves to tight. Best to have a local music store or teacher help you.
I have a question. I'm really confused because I am tuning all the right strings and they all seem to be hitting the middle blue light but when I play the acoustic it is not tuned at all. What am I doing wrong?
andreadrea32 Take your guitar in to get the intonation set up.
No, he's probably just tuning to the wrong notes. Watch the notes that come up on the screen. From the biggest string to the smallest string it should read: EADGBe. Then it will be in tune.
@TheSecrecyOfSolitude Sure is!
its tellying me weird things like it says the estring is a astring and stuff but it works i guess!!!!
@dsrocks99 Yes you can
@armyfreakm1a1 Your string is to sharp (tight), you need to lower it an octave.
@iiDinnosauriss Means you are a half step flat and need to tighten the string. There is some basic music theory involved here, might be best to seek the help of a local teacher or music store. :)
Should always tune up to pitch never down, the string can hang up in the nut
@biglavalamp It sure will.
is that a washburn, I think we have the same guitar man!
i have this kind of tuner but its brand is JOYO.. unluckily, i dont know hot to use it..
@ku42 Same thing. Just no metronome.
I can clip it non me nose and hum and tune my nose
lmao
I get an b# from the butt.
I bought one of these tuners and it stopped working before it was even a year old.
@tigreslokos Actually we ship worldwide! Our ebay store name is Best Music Deal.
Thanks!
On my ukulele every time a use the tuner it reads it wrong it says that the G string is B IT DOESNT HAVE A B STRING
+Stella BlackStar That just means that that string needs to be tuned to a G.
+Stella BlackStar lol n00b
will it make me play better ? ..thanks.
Not necessarily. This will make the sound sound better though
LOL
I'll paint any car for just $99.95!
To Tune to 330Hz. L/side Bottom D# . G . C . Then Right Bottom Side: D A F . Thanking You! .... Music Shop Tuned the Guitar this way.
@tigreslokos Not sure how that part actually works ;)
the other day i got the snark black sn 1 guitar tuner from guitar center
for 30 dollars, i just found it on line. and i called gutiar center to see if they will take it back he said yes, thne i told him i found it online for half the money
same model number sn1 but its blue. he said its not made as well as the black one
so he is saying its junk i think he is lieing to me, iam i right
I found a blue one online on eBay brand new for $9.99
Somebody said the RED Snark will tune your guitar with a capo attached?
quick question, will this work for string instruments by clipping it to the bridge?
my snark tuner is broken. I've only played my guitar once and it doesn't tell me what the notes are.. how the hell do I use this damn thing?
prob the guitar, mine works just fine
Mine was 18 0.o
@gayblueduck
I imagine it is saying that because you are currently playing a C (so in other words you are 2 full steps flat right now.)
Lol I got a blue one for 14$ at portmans
It is working perfectly except for my D string
I’ve had a couple of snark tuners. They are useless in anything other than dark setting pretty aggravating to use out doors
This works okay with my acoustic but it doesn't sound accurate at all with my electric. It could be the guitar. It's a cool product anyway, and it was only 11$.
make sure you have it set to vibration mode rather than mic. But I have the same problem regardless with my electric as well, Try tuning with 12th fret harmonics instead of open strings
the holder snapped on it the first time i put it on my guitar...boo
can it tune a fish haha
yes it CAN
lol :)
Haha😂😂
SNARK SN-2 ( Comment Under this Post)
Your string is too tight. Loosen it up a bit, it is about a full step to tight. Hope this helps.
