I live in British Columbia Canada just above the Washington and Idaho borders. We currently have 299 active wildfires with just 104 deemed "Under Control". Our firefighting teams (3,500) have already been maxed, the military has been and is deploying, and we just declared a State of Emergency. We have additional firefighters on route from eastern Canada, from Mexico, and are negotiating with Europe. So far 301,000 hectares or 744,000 acres have burnt which is equivalent to approximately 1/2 of the State of Delaware. 87 or our wildfires are deemed "Out Of Control"

So, for those of you who don't know the area currently burning(Klamath Basin) used to be former Oak Savannahs aka Oregon White Oaks! Oaks are drought tolerant, fire resistant, can take extreme heat and are keynote a species to this region! The conifers which are on fire, are fast growers which means they can not build up the resistance needed to survive fires, and their wood is brittle making them very dangerous and possible widow makers! Conifers are also drought intolerant, so the prolong drought we here in PNW are experiencing are causing severe dieback and are killing all our Cedar Trees which is a sacred tree to PNW Natives! Lastly, conifers can not take the extreme heat currently plaguing the Pacific Northwest! Conifers, were meant to be in higher elevations where it is colder and where they would get annual snowpacks which would provide them with a long term watersource! By cutting down the oaks and replacing them with conifers which apparently Oregon values more than their Oaks has made it to where Oregon now has the largest Wildfire in the Nation! Also, Oregon has more forested land today than they did 100 and even 500 years ago! So, the next time you decide to plant a tree for Arbor or Earth Day, think about what you're planting, because we here in Oregon are now paying the price!

@Eric Babcock I grew up here, raised my kids here. I'm almost 50. We had about a month of snow in the winters. Usually one big snowstorm just before Christmas. ALWAYS had snow for Christmas.
This year we had one day of snow. WEEKS after Christmas. Then we had the ice storm. That was winter.
When I was a kid I remember every time the temp got above 100 because it almost NEVER happened.
Now, well, it's over 100 for about a week a year, except for this year of course. And we have a couple big heat waves in the 90-100 range with a lot of high 80's weather all summer long. And the summers are looooooong. We don't really have a fall anymore.
Our anniversary is in October. That used to be a great time to be outside before it got too cold. Used to be sweatshirts and jeans weather.
Now it is usually too hot till our anniversary and then really cold after.
The seasons used to be so gradual but now it's hot then cold then wet then hot then cold then wet....
If we are lucky. I dont remember the last time we had rain.
I'm thinking about moving to the northern territory.
If I want to be old in a place that is comfortable for me the way Oregon used to be, that's where I think I'm going to have to go in 10-15 years.
Beat the rush. Get in while land is still cheap and can be bought with monopoly money. Or whatever the Canadians are using now.
