- Luke can't resist shiny prizes stuck on the front of bits of paper, so we're back looking at another issue of...Pokemon Magazine! This month has a Snorlax Snack Box, for children to build and for us to nearly injure ourselves making. YAY.

Just so you know: i work for immediate media - they DO pay me to say that, so it's just seems fair. Can confirm the mag know these videos exist and It brings them great joy.
You guys should put something in secretly for Ellen and Luke. Just a little easter egg.
I really hope Luke and Ellen see this!
How did nobody realise that a "great ball rubber" was an awful idea?
@@bitequation314 If they're a British publishing company, they absolutely knew what they were doing with that. Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK would try to get away with blatant innuendo in every issue, too.
How about Oxtra magazine?
'which i think makes it bigger and heavier than a Charizard...'
And Luke never forgave, and he never forgot.
This show is my adult version of Saturday morning cartoons. What zany magazine based antics are they up to this weekend
You know, I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right
This is exactly how I've been treating sotw too, it's great. :D
In what way is that an adult version exactly? :D
@@Hidetogy I was just about to say this
*Zanie
I love how every other CZcams creators start with “please subscribe, hit that bell and smash that like button” and Luke’s like no not us we are going with “Pokémon official magazine published in the UK by Immediate Media not being paid to say that it just seems fair.”
Why AREN'T they being paid to say it? Luke is single-handedly keeping that company afloat!
Between this and the Choose your own Adventure book, Show of Weekend has become a thrilling guessing game of 'ohh, what will they be reading out of today!', and I absolutely love it
Perhaps one day we'll get an Oxventure themed Reading Rainbow with guest Levar Burton.
Why tho?
You know what would be crazy? If they did a segment about video games.
Yes, but the one thing there is no point guessing is that it's gonna be Pokemon themed. The adventure book was a welcome breath of fresh air, but here we are again.
It’s nice to know that Ellen and Luke take their careers seriously
But why tho?
They're industry leaders. This is what the market (every market) needs more of.
@@derschwartzadder they are over 40?
They look great for that age.
I can't tell if this is meant affectionately.
@@rafaelmauricio8000 *Nearing
My wife just drifted into the room and asked what I was watching, after a solid minute of 'well they normally play computer games but each weekend they do a special episode and this week they have bought Pokemon magazine and are currently struggling to make the Snorlax-you know what, it's just this CZcams channel I watch it's hard to explain...' I now know how you must feel when people ask what you do for a living 😂
You should have patiently explained that you were just a normal adult man doing normal adult things.
"What do you do for a living?"
Oxtra: "Stuff and nonsense, mostly."
I tell my brother they are the "list people" doing something that isn't a list.
@@Virtuous_Rogue I like that 😂
@@Jambobist and totally not three children in a trenchcoat!
The handhold is so small because they assume you'll have lost some fingers in the process and won't need more room.
Trying to use the proper glue, resorting to prit stick and finally giving up and using staples is exactly how I remember arts and crafts!
I feel like Luke is going to get an angry phone call from Ellen’s mum demanding to know why she was allowed to handle scissors
Ellen's Mum: 'How was work today, honey?'
Ellen: 'Luke gave me scissors so we could make a Pokemon snack box.'
Ellen's Mum: '... You have a very strange job.'
Ellen: 'I know!'
I just want to say that one little thing I REALLY like about Outside Xtra is how often Ellen looks directly at the camera in response to something silly Luke has said.
I saw this edition of the magazine in my local Tesco last week and I seriously considered buying it in case they did an episode on it and I could read along. I am a 28 year old adult woman 😂
Perfect age to start
You are a normal adult woman, doing normal things
I'm a 35 year old woman and this seems a perfect thing to do on a Saturday. Embrace your joys, you're never too old.
I've been seriously considering getting a subscription for this reason lol
What, so you're supposed to give up on fun things as soon as you have the financial ability to buy them for yourself? Sounds bad; Buy that magazine.
I don't see the problem with using staples. It's many a year since I was in primary school, but as I recall when doing any sort of crafting it was always a matter of meticulously following the instructions followed by frantically resorting to tape and staples and extra glue and binder clips in a desperate attempt to stop everything disassembling itself the moment you so much as looked at it or breathed in its general direction.
Well in my primary school class we weren't allowed to use the stapler ourselves and should wait for the teacher. When one kid stapled through their finger, everybody else knew why we weren't allowed to use it by ourselves.
**I think it's okay to use staples. It's a long time since i was in primary school but i remember when i was crafting, i would always end up using tape, staples, extra glue & binder clips so it won't crumble by the mere wind of my breath or by simply looking at it.**
@Matthew Winn • Im sure people are dying to be around u to hear u say long & exhausting sentences as u just did in ur comment. Get a life brah!
@@DerUser94 this is why teachers should teach children how to use tools. also stapling your finger barely counts as an injury.
If you use them right, they're GREAT! #1 thing is to make sure they're bent flat on the inside.
And I say all this after seeing my brother get a staple stuck in his finger this week eating food out of a bag he bought at the grocery story. :p He, just wasn't paying attention.
“Great ball rubber” absolutely spectacular 😂 i remember asking an american girl at my scottish secondary school for a “rubber” in class. She was v offended until she realised what i actually meant lmao
I had the same experience with an american girl at my school, though she found it funny rather than offensive lol
@@rickimaru915 oh don’t worry as soon as i explained what my stupid scottish arse meant we both burst out laughing 😂
Yeah, in North America, a "rubber" refers to a condom.
Yes, well if you'd have the decency to not call them that.
Reminds me of the bit from "Archer"--
"We are nut rubbers."
"Oh my god. Okay, yes you can rub them, but just please don’t hurt my family."
"He means we are *not robbers."*
This video was EXACTLY what my mortgage-paying, soulless work-attending, ever-doomscrolling adult self needed to watch today to feel at peace with the world again. Cheers.
Ellen with the structurally sound Snorlax snack box I didn't think she could make hanging from her neck with twine like some kind of Pokemon evacuee.
For when the Pokemon eventually rise up against the humans, presumably.
Media evolves and transforms. One day we will look back at when Show of the Weekend looked at non Xbox video games and other games and hobbies. It became the Official Pokémon Magazine (UK) CZcams show so gradually…
And here we see an excellent example of the classic dad move Check for Poison from Mr Westaway
I love Ellen's whole "exhausted mom patiently indulging a 3-year-old" vibe in this one 😂
I am here for Pokémon magazine, dubious arts and crafts and choose your own adventure stuff. This direction Show of the Weekend is going absolutely makes my Saturdays. 💙 I hope it continues for as long as you're all having fun with it.
Ah, what I've been waiting for all my life. A great ball rubber. Accept no inferior ball rubbers.
Frankly, by now I’d be disappointed if SotWE started being about games again. It has transcended games and become something new and glorious.
The continuation of the ‘choose your adventure’ saga, I crave it! That said, art and craft portion is very entertaining 🤣
These pokemon magazine shows are absolutely the most wholesome part of my weekend, look forward to them all week. Immediate mood lift, thank you for that!
Did you know it’s a *great ball rubber*
Right about now
The great ball rubber
Check it out now
The great ball rubber
Some say that show of the weekend has strayed too far from its video game roots, I say video games were holding you back all along! 😀
Always look forward to whatever crazy antics you folks cook up for us. Makes the weekend that much better!
only ellen and luke can pull off giving critiques of m&s doing performative allyship while also making a snorlax snackbox for some percy pigs. truly the quality content i expect from oxtra!
You can not tell me that the makers of Pokèmon Magazine did not have a lot of fun with naming and designing that rubber. Of all the shapes and names available in the Pokèmon universe they went with "Great ball rubber", I refuse to believe that this is a coincidence.
"I don't need to look at this rubber to tell you that it's rubbish" is what I expected Luke to say
Why?
@@derschwartzadder oh definitely haha I've seen plenty of novelty erasers when I was younger, none of them worked, they just looked good
'Snaples?'
"I've heard it is really nice this time of year"
Ellen is so FUCKING FAST WITH THOSE PUNS, HOLY HECK WOMAN. 💜💜💜
She is, indeed, the Pun Queen.
@@Brasc If she ever were to become a vampire she would be the pundead.
Luke single handedly keeping immediate media in business
this show is the most wholesome, chaotic, and wonderful weekly series i get to enjoy. i swear in my head Luke and Ellen are a pair of felt plushies animated to life
Truly a delight to watch you two do literally the most mundane and simple tasks
Oooh M&S sweets? Someone's doing alright for themselves
Show of the Weekend has devolved into the utter chaos that was always simmering under the surface and I, for one, am here for it.
I legit look forward to this show every weekend. I wake up and watch Show of the Weekend every Saturday morning while in bed just like I did with Saturday morning cartoons as a kid, and I love it so much. An excellent way to start the weekend!
The best part is when this innocent crafting episode took a dark turn and Luke & Ellen discussed in detail how to stage the thumbnails of Ellen cutting off her finger(s) to maximize viewers. Who would have thought Pokemon would have granted us a behind the scenes look at the ruthless CZcams algorithm?
From the thumbnail I thought Luke was threatening to cut his tongue, did not even see Ellen's hand.
9:50
I keep thinking the Pokemon magazine has got to run out of steam, but every time it emerges it's still funny. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
I’m just a 42 year old man watching two adults put together a child’s snorlax snack box and don’t even care. Love you guys!
I love it when Luke and Ellen get Pokemon Magazine, really wish we got it over here in Australia lol
Same
I was looking to pick up a copy, definitely for the younger family members and not for me, of course. Its just not available over here.
It's got to the stage where the Pokemon Magazine SOTWs have me laughing even when nothing is happening, just in anticipation.
For a better handle, with a long piece of twine, make a loop at each end that passes through the slits on the pink tabs at the top. I'd use a climbing knot for each loop, either a follow-through figure-8 or two half hitches. Diagram of twine: o------------------------o
The twine becomes the handle and you don't have to remove the handle to open the box.
A nice Snorlax lunchbox for your Snorlax snacks.
...Snorsnax.
The Bugsnax sequel I didn't know we needed.
"Structurally sound Snorlax snackbox." New tongue-twister!
So it's not just a Matrix style white void... it has a carpet!!
On next weeks episode, the ceiling!
"Jon, load the Pokemon Magazine program." _~infinite Tesco magazine shelves spawn~_
“Great Ball Rubber” starting out strong with the euphemisms today aren’t we?
I don't get it. From the British perspective it's an eraser.
Are they laughing cus of the American vernacular?
@@ghostderazgriz You can take it two ways in America. One is a condom specifically designed to cup your balls, which is just a gag as there isn't a condom that does that.
The other is the literal sense of someone rubbing balls, great balls at that.
As much as I like the previous Show of the Weekend, I do enjoy these more since it's just Luke and Ellen goofing off, doing whatever they want, and still be entertaining all throughout.
And, almost poetically, Show of the Weekend's theme now reflects and complements the content rather well.
Lastly, in honour of 1:34, I leave you with this:
Great Ball Rubber
_Great_ Ball Rubber
Great _Ball_ Rubber
Great Ball _Rubber_
_Great Ball_ Rubber
Great _Ball Rubber_
I love tuning in to these videos and watching the rapport between these two. I've especially enjoyed Luke's way of introducing the pokemon magazine the last few times and seeing poor Ellen's reactions to these gags. Thank you for all the laughs and smiles!
Imagine a world without Ellen and Luke on your Saturday mornings… that’s a world I never wish to have!
7:19 The plural of every Pokemon is the same as its singular form! Probably just to save the localizers from having to come up with plurals. Not all side material remembers that though, so it's nice the magazine was correct.
I regret to say this now, but I was one of those haters. Every day, I would leave a rude comment on an Oxtra video, saying "Ha, I bet Ellen can't build a Snorlax Snack Box! She doesn't have the smarts and skills!"
Today, I have eaten my words and the crow that comes with them. Kudos to you, Ellen. We now know what you are capable of.
I was really hoping for the Andy the wizard to come back!
I just love these dorks no matter what they’re doing 😀
It's official: Outside Xtra are now Pokemon trainers. Ellen of course gets Evee and Luke I think would go for Charazard. Gotta catch'em all- SOTW that is.
I thought Luke canonically gets greninja
@@eleanorsmith7152 Yeah. I was thinking Greninja
Luke just gets Greninja
Luke would get Charazard and then spend the whole time berating the poor pokemon for being not being as big as he imagined
@@ThankYouCityOfficial ahahaaha, this would probably be true. :D Charizard isn't Smaug. It's not an elder dragon, it's barely more than a hatchling.
So which caused more psychological stress, the Nameless King, or the Snorlax snack box?
I can’t get enough of these two. Please never stop being amazing childrening adults
Im a 30 year old but these pokemon magazine videos each weekend are really a highlight for me 😅😁 keep them coming love them!!
I'm 33 and I concur
This is still a better attempt at crafting than anything I made when I was a child
I was expecting clothespins, but Ellen went metal 🤘
Please never ever stop these magazine episodes, they're so relaxing after a stressful week
I find it funny that a trainer needs a grownup to help cut cardboard but it’s ok for them to leave home at 10 without an adult and participate in giant monster fighting.
4:21 They should have gotten Glue Peter instead...
Alright, this episode blew my mind because I always thought that the floor of the studio was just like a white hard floor to match the background. The fact that it's carpeted is really throwing me off 🤣
Another lovely excus---reason to have a subscription to the Pokémon magazine. Loved every minute of this.
Boy did I choose the wrong show to only listen to... "Show me the bottom, Ellen. That looks good. It's bulging but sound."
"I can't fit my fingers through."
What normal *adult* things are you up to! 😅
gross
ellen and luke being absolute snickering children at the eraser made my day lmao
Man I love their humor. Cracks me up every time. They're both on point in this one.
Yay, another pokemon magazine episode! I unironically love these
Fee, Fi, Foe, Fix Luke had his Weetabix.
Glad to see that finally, after all these years, you were able to give Ellen a feedbag for snacks
It was a saga nearly six years in the making. Many games played, Ellenings inflicted, Choose-your-own-Adventure murders committed, shorks and sea basses caught, and knowledge of Pokemon put on display. But, finally, when Ellen gets a hankering for snacks, she need merely take the feedbag from around her neck, untie the twine, open the flaps, and then it's off to the races. Truly, what times we live in.
If they're going to be using scissors Andy should really be supervising
Not sure if it's Ellen or Luke, but one of them laughs like Ernie from Sesame Street during the bit about explaing their job to people. Words can't express how much this made my day.
The lesson I took from this show of the weekend is that "twine saves the day yet again"
This reminds me of my dad trying to 'transform' my Optimus Prime I got for X-mas (centuries ago), and giving up. Only for me to pick it up and do it w/o the instructions.
I was worried that nothing could live up to the Evil Ghosts of Camelot, I was wrong.
Y’all are great. Thank you
You two make me laugh every time. :)
Look forward to this show every weekend. I love Ellen’s laugh
I love you two so much. Your vids are always something to look forward to, no matter how hard the week was. you never fail to cheer me up. Thank you for being you.
Do we think "great ball rubber" could be the new "tall vampire lady", or "cook hot meat"
outsidesnackbox or Outside Snackstra?
This is what I look forward to every Saturday morning while I clean my apartment.
Pokemon magazine the gift that keeps on giving!
I feel like these 2 have single handedly doubled the sales of pokemon magazine
My favourite pencil on the pad gag is from the big lebowaski. It's just chef's kiss.
This is the sort of content that (if I had money) would convince me to join Patreon!
This show always puts a smile on my face. Thank you Ellen and Luke. 🤗
Ellen's comment about a pile of meowth had me HOWLING
Do you think you'll ever return to the pre lockdown format? I know it's probably a lot more work to script, do multiple shoots, edit etc... But they were just *so* good
I miss those days.
It's been a while, but I remember them discussing in another video about the Show of the Weekend format and that because it is so intense and time consuming, they decided to focus on just the games/making stuff part of the whole thing since that's what got more comments and attention and such in the before times.
Luke, you're gonna need to ID Ellen before the next arts and crafts to make sure she is 12.
I can't explain how much I love it when they seemingly don't care.
It is so much fun and hilarious.
Yes! The amount of sheer joy I felt when I saw the pokemon magazine was incalculable. Please never change, I need this premium content.
I love how Ellen always comes up with really interesting creative stuff to do and Luke always brings in Pokémon magazine 😂😂😂
I have to applaud Ellen's careful dedication to cutting out that cardboard! A very nicely constructed box. Feel the comment about lack of pockets, too...
I am so disappointed, though, that Luke didn't reach for the snacks to find them missing and Jane (who, in her own words, would do anything for snacks) napping behind the sofa.
One would think someone’s a tiny bit too obsessed with Pokémon but that would be an insane thought
Santa has dropped off a present 7 months early!!
I want to make a more humorous comment, but in one of my first jobs I cut the tip of my thumb off on a deli slicer. Luke's face is pretty accurate.
For some reason, I had a feeling Luke was gonna bring a Pokemon magazine this week. It's always after Ellen put so much work in the last show.
Please never stop reading children's magazines for Show of the Weekend. It's perfect. I mean, I guess you can do other stuff too, but the magazines must never leave!
The Madness continues, and I am here for it. 😁
