I just sent this to my ex. I loved him and wanted him so much, while I felt in the relationship he went back and forth, played on my heartstrings and then broke my heart over and over again. I took him back relentlessly because I just loved him so much. But I realised Im a good person and I deserve so much more. But he really broke my heart in a way I have never felt before. Feel totally gutted.
Almost like Tears for fears - Mad world, upbeat but has no corolation to the meaning of lyrics, unlike Gary Jules - Mad world, that capsulates the depressing tone of the lyrics
@@Topazeification that’s probably why we hear Mad world a lot more on the airwaves than we hear this song 👆🏽. Still really like say hello wave goodbye 👋🏼
I was at this event. Only just found this video after all these years ! He told a story beforehand about why he did this song. Something to do with hearing some old geezer singing the most beautiful version he'd ever heard in some seedy northern club when he was on tour, if my memory serves me correctly...
I saw David Gray in the street in London a couple of weeks ago and he stopped for a chat. We spoke about his cancelled tour and upcoming gigs. Really nice down to earth guy.
Ssen DG at a private gig in Dublin .I can tell you that man can sing and for hours if you ever get a chance to see him play .be first to get a ticket as he is a jem and a down to earth guy to go with it.
Oh god you’re so right. I broke up with a narcissist (actually I wasn’t allowed to break up with her, we got back together then she broke up with me)... and whenever I missed her I played this song without knowing why it made so much sense. Thank you.
I'm trying to figure out how he can reach over with his thumb and fret the E string without muting the other strings, seems almost impossible but he manages. And I agree with you on the capo but sometimes ya just have to do what ya have to do.
Thanks for keeping your cover fresh David! I just covered it your style, but wondering, which do you folks prefer: Soft Cell 👨🎤or David Gray 🪕 version?!
czcams.com/video/_kyQvGaS2tQ/video.html Although Gray's version is good - this is extraordinary. The clarinet just talks to you. (I nicked that from the comments). NY session sax/clarinetist Dave Tofani. Apparently he just adlibbed it. Only ever played it the once.
If you gonna do the Van thing, a little more vocal improv like some "hand on my shoulder", "backstreet", and "in the garden" interspersed would have made it better.

Feelin' that
It took David Grays vocals for me to realise that Marc almond wrote a classic

Beauriful way to put it!
It was soft cell who sung it
@@peterfarkas2154 and the lead singer of soft cell is?.........

Soft Cell version just had that cruel edge to it - whilst David Gray made it a love song. Two great versions of a brilliant song.

I had tickets for that...
Say hello and wave goodbye
@@larascott3793 Maybe next year(s love)
@@just_another32 Very good..😉
Beautiful, David Gray feels the pain you can’t manufacture that. White Ladder one of my top albums thank you.
Talent. Pure talent. Outstanding 👏👏
Just seen him in Liverpool on his tour. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE ...that voice, so effortless
Flipping amazing... What else can I say? One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest albums of all time.
Wow. So raw.
I will see this man when covid is over for sure!
The best version by far! Surely the BBC can afford a decent blue screen, David Gray certainly deserves better!
The BBC doesn’t give a toss any more, the sooner people stop paying the licence the better, you can get far better programs on Y tube.

MJX DRONES Amen.
Great Song, love the words & David Gray has an Awesome voice!
This song always puts me in my feels. It makes me time travel to a beautiful disaster
Brings back such brilliant memories of listening to white ladder on loop. That riffing at the end is excellent.
Génial ! Talent et simplicité !
Bravo !
Merci !
Miss that old Lowden. Good to see it and hear it again.
Love the way he goes into his zone , like it’s just him there 👌
One of my favorite songs ever. Thank you for writing it.
He didn't.
Thank you Mark Almond and David Ball.
😉👍
He didn’t write it, he just perfected it! (No offense Marc Almond, you wrote a timeless classic)
Just beautiful
Outstanding.
So rips my heart (Brilliant)
Very influenced by Van Morrison and the Astral Weeks album…one of my favourites. Truly great cover.
Wonderful ❤
The Lowden returns!
Fantastic version, better than soft cell.!!!
Almond's later remix is much better than the original.
But it’s not
Missed your bobblehead so much , where you been?!
Fucking goosebumps bro.
One of the best cover version ever done 😎
Best

Awesome!!
Excellent David ill have that jacket ....
Love this song. I always think it's about breaking up with a narcissist... :/

Glad you're out of it. :-)
So True it took me 17years to get away , and in the end I lost everything in the process. But im out.
wow!
One of best songs written.. Mac did it in one take
This crowd... c’mon. This is a classic.
This is the extended version.
Wow!
The most underestimated singer songwriter in the history of real life music, ok I’ll retract a bit, he’s a terrible breakdancer so I hear.
This song is about being in a relationship with someone suffering from a b cluster personally disorders most likely NPD.
I’ve never seen anyone tune a guitar with a capo on, every day is a school day
That type of capo can knock your strings out of tune by too much pressure.. just tune it back down once it's on
I'm trying to figure out how he can reach over with his thumb and fret the E string without muting the other strings, seems almost impossible but he manages. And I agree with you on the capo but sometimes ya just have to do what ya have to do.
Is this just a work function!?

Gray 🪕 version?!
They're both gorgeous. Like good apple and good orange.
You can’t beat the original , he’s made a good job of it though
The vocal on the original is awful but amazingly written..
The DG version is far superior in my little old humble opinion...
Nice cover ....I notice he sung the radio version ('run around' rather than sleep around)... maybe youngsters in the audience
I think he got to say goodbye
Say hel......funking advert after 1st chorus/.......Dude, c`mon........
5 not nodding heads 🤷🏼♂️✌🏻🏴
UNA SOLA PAROLA
..PURO TALENTO!!
Is that Mark Kermode’s head in the bottom left?
What’s a steady life?
One without constant drama and problems.
Monotonous life.
Regular routine. Consistent. Stability. No major emotional peaks and troughs.

A decent attempt but lacks Marc's passion imo
I can sing this as good as him
Me too
If you gonna do the Van thing, a little more vocal improv like some "hand on my shoulder", "backstreet", and "in the garden" interspersed would have made it better.
Shut the fuck up man
... and a STFU from me too.
He can only be himself dude
Guitar tone sounds awful ..great singer song writer though..
