Gareth - Little did I know that at age 10 - the one player who absolutely smashed me and destroyed my idea of being a footballer wasn't just an amazing Welsh player but would become one of the best players to ever put their foot through a ball. The grace, poise and stature you have risen to - aloft and soaring upon that natural raw talent you have but flying alongside you every step of the way: Y Ddraig Goch. What you have done for our nation is beyond description - where one would be almost too shy to state Wales / Cymru and struggle for others to recognise who we were and where we are from, where now... one look at the flag from people across the world and they ask me "Bale?" - where I happily reply: "You can't spell Wales without Bales". You were destined to be so good that we didn't know where the ball was going because "where is the ball?" in Cymraeg is the same for "where is the Bale?". Ffrind, Brawd, Brennin - Diolch o phopeth x
Been a privilege to watch Gareths career from his debut with Wales all the way through.. can't remember many games he's missed, turned up for Wales on and off the pitch and we wouldnt of been anywhere near a major tournament over the last few years without him. Will be missed... Viva Gareth Bale
I was there in Graz to see Gareth's debut for Wales against Trinidad & Tobago, I was in the stadium and witnessed his first senior international goal against Slovakia, I've been there for many of the lows (6-1 lose away to Serbia comes immediately to mind!) and I have been there for many of the highs ending in celebrating in Doha in what has turned out to be your last ever international goal at the World Cup. Thank you Gareth for giving me these memories, for making me feel so tearfully proud singing our anthem in Bordeaux and then later at a World Cup - I don't think we would have done it without you and I'm for one so, so grateful. I had the good fortune (I won a raffle prize!) to met John Charles on my birthday in 2000 after a Wrexham v Cardiff City fixture and was very impressed by him, even in old age, and I hold Gareth in same esteem - both are in my eyes equally Wales' best ever player. Diolch Gareth, the golden boy of our golden generation, and enjoy a very well earned retirement!

Gareth was one of those players with an okay national team and and an absolutely amazing club team, and was still one of the best at both stages. Even though we didn’t make it through the group stages he made the country proud with the first goal of 2022, and getting wales to the Semifinals of Euro 2016, Ein Tad Gareth.
We all knew this was coming. It is a shame but I am happy to say that he is the reason that we can say that wales had one of the best players in Europe and quite possibly the world.
