"What is stopping the Fat Controller from walking over there, throwing a match in their fuel tanks, grabbing some marshmallows and a stick, and watch as he makes the world's most unsafe bonfire." probably the funniest quote I have heard all day.
To be honest, “Thomas and the Rumors” is my favorite episode of the whole show. Because it’s one of those Thomas wants to help the children episodes done right.
To be honest it’s refreshing to see people admit that even classic eras of shows have their weak or outright bad episodes (unlike most fans of The Simpsons). Thomas was a great show, but it did have its lower moments. The only one I remember not liking as a kid was Thomas, Percy and the dragon, but that was only because the dragon scared me to death.
I respect your opinion on Daisy, Thomas' Train, Gordon and the Gremlin, James and the Coaches, Sir Topham Hatt's Holiday, Thomas and Stepney, Trusty Rusty, Thomas Gets Bumped, Better Late than Never, Thomas and the Rumours, Thomas and the Guard and Buffer Bother (I actually like all those episodes). As for Middle Engine.....I agree that it is a bad episode. Not as bad as Apology Impossible, but still rather bad.
In Season 17, they’re absolutely fine, I have no issues with them. Beyond that though, those mischievous antics devolve into bullying, manipulation and basically just doing everything they can to torment Timothy which is a complete exaggeration of their characters, which is something that tends to happen to characters in loads of stuff over time 🤌🏻
Some great points in this ranking video my friend. Enjoyed your rationale on these episodes and I definitely understand the points raised. Very well done ☺️🚂🚃
I always saw Thomas and the Rumors as having the most dangerous accident in the series. Gordon crashes into an unfinished tunnel - presumably one that hasn't been bored all the way, meaning he hits a rock face - and sends scaffolding, stone, blasting leftovers and whatever else flying, potentially striking the workers just feet away. No wonder Topham spoke with Gordon's driver afterward.
I don't think Middle Engine is that bad! But fair enough. Here are some of my least favorites: The Sad Story of Henry: It's just horrible and mean-spirited and The Fat Controller is so out-of-character; so is Henry for that matter! Thomas and the Guard: Everything you said here... was absolutely correct! Percy Runs Away: Features a plot hole so big you could fit an engine through it... well, there is an engine in it actually. Daisy: Again, you hit the nail right on the head here. Woolly Bear: 5 minutes of characters being dickish, that's all folks! No Joke for James: This one annoys me quite a bit. One Good Turn: Twins falling out stories usually suck, and this one is infuriating. Percy, James and the Fruitful Day: That mashed up fruit is just gross-looking, and Percy and James are insufferable here. A Bad Day for Sir Handel: Seeing Sir Handel being so obnoxious for an entire episode is so wearing. Passengers and Polish: Like A Bad Day for Sir Handel, but even worse. Bull's Eyes: Really boring, and Daisy is infuriating once again. James and the Trouble with Trees: This episode only exists to answer Wilbert Awdry's criticism of Henry's Forest. That's it. Double Teething Troubles: A diesel breaks down twice. That's it. Stepney Gets Lost: Way too dark for a children's show. Salty's Secret: One of the all-time worst Thomas season premieres. Elizabeth the Vintage Lorry: Terrible character, terrible episode. Buffer Bother: This one could be even worse than One Good Turn. What's the Matter with Henry? A snooze fest. The Old Bridge: Feels like a HIT episode that got released a season early. Peace and Quiet: A snooze-fest, again!
Thomas & the Rumours is absolutely ridiculous. You think one helicopter would replace an entire fleet of steam engines? Not to mention they do the exact same thing in the next season, except with, of all things... a red balloon?
I don’t hate it, I just think it’s flawed beyond belief due to how simple it is. There’s so little to this episode that you can gain more enjoyment from most other episodes out there because they just have more to give. It’s so simple in narrative, camerawork, editing, props etc., the bare minimum of what you expect from a Thomas episode and it really shows
How Better Late than Never should have ended. After Thomas leaves his junction behind schedule following his talk with James, he arrives at the station where Bertie is supposed to pick up his passengers. Bertie isn't there, so Thomas thinks he already left, only for the station master to tell him and his crew that Bertie broke down en route and needed assistance. Would have been better at teaching the moral than Thomas coming across a broken down Bertie at a railroad crossing.
I feel like the only person in the world who actually likes Gordon and the Gremlin, maybe I'm just biased for the Michael Angelis "A WOOF WOOF". My personal least favourite episode is probably The Old Bridge or Rusty Saves the Day, both episodes show absolutely no continuity to the series, Middle Engine is definitely up there, but for those complaining about The Fat Controller being a dick in that episode, he shows literally no regret for closing down Skarloey and Rheneas' line even if he does apologise afterwards
Valid arguments! You’re definitely right, although I do feel as though Rusty & Elizabeth’s interactions are its saving grace and I consider Rusty quite likeable for helping Skarloey & Rheneas with this mammoth task of clearing the line 👍🏻
If I was the person writing “middle engine” I’d make Henry feel bad about Percy and deputizing to the fat controller and telling him to punish Arry and Bert.
Thomas comes to breakfast really is a episode that has aged poorly for not making sense and being fucking stupid for thomas being blamed for something that was out of his control that's some episodes in the classic era where sir topam hat blames engines for something that wasn't their fault
I agree with Daisy and Better Late than Never. Season 2 is awfully rocky in terms of being simple and a slice of life for never ending grim or gritty tones, and I personally don't mind Middle Engine even though it's got its flaws.
I think you should address that Thomas' Train, Thomas and the Guard, etc. negative with the plot being basic is mainly an issue with the original story it's based off considering how unrealistic it is even for Awdry standards. That's a lot of the problems with Season 1-4 which is the problem with the original story it's based off.
There’s an argument to be made there for sure but we’ve seen that the TV series isn’t above changing things within Awdry stories or Awdry lore (e.g. Rusty To The Rescue) so the crew could’ve absolutely changed things and just chose not to which also holds importance in why they aren’t as good as other episodes: they didn’t want to change the original story for one reason or another. Whatever the reason, it still creates the same outcome… episodes like Thomas & The Guard
My least favorite of each classic season 1. Thomas & the Guard 2. Thomas & Trevor 3. Time for Trouble 4. Special Attraction 5. Baa! 6. Rusty Saves the Day 7. Harold & the Flying Horse

Better late then never Honorable mentions Gordon and the gremlin Mind that bike Thomas and the guard 5. Thomas gets bumped 4. Thomas and Trevor 3. Jack Frost 2. Harold and the flying horse 1. Rheneas and the roller coaster
If anything, Old Bridge is the worst because it just has Skarloey being a major bitch, and not being the responsible elder he's meant to be. It's like a hunter had his shotgun, and shot his dog: Why would you do the thing that you have done?!
My personal list (from worst to least worst): 1. Thomas the Jet Engine 2. Rusty to the Rescue 3. Tender Engines 4. The Trouble with Mud 5. Rusty and the Boulder 6. The World's Strongest Engine 7. Gordon Takes a Tumble 8. Diesel Does it Again 9. Henry's Forest 10. Better Late Than Never
What’s wrong with Thomas the jet engine, Rusty and the boulder, World’s strongest engine, Gordon takes a tumble, Diesel does it again and Henry’s forest?
@@tudorbrancuturcu5996 Thomas the Jet Engine. Rusty and the Boulder and Gordon Takes a Tumble are ludicrously gimmicky. World's Strongest Engine and Diesel Does it Again both lack originality and cheapen a great villain. Henry's Forest could just as easily be about people rather than trains and the story would be no different.
I agree with most of these though I am surprised the Old Bridge is not on here. The worst classic episode in my opinion is Edward’s Brass Band. I seem to be the only one who hates that episode…
Something in the Air is the worst Season 5 episode to me. Henry is a bit of a jerk to Thomas and for that has a massive (and admittedly impreesive) crash because the Signalman didn't listen to Thomas' crew, was told off by The Fat Controller And Cranky, but though gets a washdown with Thomas at the end. Just never sat right with me. At least Gordon and the Gremlins introduced Dowiger Hatt, whom became important way later.
(sigh) Of course it's Middle Engine... I've stated before why I think it's a mid episode but long story short unlike episodes like Buffer Bother, No Sleep for Cranky etc... the episode has redeeming qualities. Angelis good narration, a good pace and say what you will but personally I loved James in the episode
Angelis being a good narrator and the good pacing are qualities that I think can be found in pretty much every Classic Series episode, even the ones you listed
the episode is just really boring, Salty is a little bit of an arsehole towards Cranky, pretty much nothing really happens in it and I get they’re trying to tell a joke of “Salty keeps talking and Cranky doesn’t like it” but they stretch is out for 4 minutes, like no one wants to watch that

It's just sad that that's essentially the side plot of the episode.
II will say that the aftermath of the bootlace incident where all of the engines were mercilessly roasting James was pretty hilarious.

Bill and Ben are still a little likable in CGI since their mischievous antics are retained and consistent in character like in the model series.
In Season 17, they’re absolutely fine, I have no issues with them.
