  • In this video, Logee's horticulturist and third generation owner, Byron Martin, talks about four popular carnivorous plants that we frequently offer at Logee's. Carnivorous plants acquire some or most of their nutrients by trapping and consuming insects and small animals or protozoans via ingenious pitfalls and traps. Sometimes referred to as insectivorous plants, there are more than 600 known species of carnivorous plants, which also generate energy from photosynthesis.

We have the first 3 varieties in an old aquarium with lights. They are very low maintenance. Only rainwater is added. Personally, I love the Sundew plant. A lot of Drosophilidae get stuck to it. And it looks so beautiful feathery. How do I get it to bloom? Thank you for telling us that the Venus Flytrap dies off but immerges in spring. Our Venus Flytrap got a flower but before it opened the whole plant died off. Hope to see it again soon.

Those carnivorous plants generally will have red coloration on their traps or leaves once given a decent amount of sunlight.
