      😂 If I have to fold, I use option 2 as well. But 99% of the time it just goes straight back on the bed.

      @HowToGYST  Před 6 lety +2

      Only guests get bedclothes from the closet here. And that's only because after I wash them, I don't want to put them straight back on the bed or they'll just get dusty before other guests arrive.

  • @kesaiserris9

    Could do a video on super chunky/lumpy items that take up loads of space. I live in a cold climate so all my linens, sweaters, and hoodies are extra thick. I watch these videos and see people filling their drawers with beautiful rows of sweaters (long-sleeved shirts they call sweaters) and I can only fit like 3 of my sweaters in a full sized drawer. My sweaters are like trying to fold a husky in half kind of thick (I would never fold a husky but you get the idea). I sometimes think I should just wear t-shirts and stop going outside altogether.

    • @HowToGYST
      @HowToGYST  Před 4 lety

      I have the same problem with my bulkier items. I just hang them now so if that's an option for you, try that. Otherwise it's perfectly normal that they take up a huge amount of space. =) Something Marie Kondo recommends is storying them in some sort of material bag that you can close tight with a drawstring or similar, to contain the bulk.

    I've always done it the second way. I think it's very quick (I'm done in just a few seconds), very neat, and you don't need a big surface to lay it out on. I never knew there were other ways to do it 😂 We don't have a dryer so just putting them back on is seldom an option.

    I do the 2nd method. But, I've seen another method demonstrated by a hotel laundry guy. He folded the sheet like method 2 - but did a triangular pattern in the middle of his process that other say it lessens bulk. I'm going to try it - as I can't see how the bulk could be less with the same amount of fabric. If I find the video I'll share a link on your FB page. I'd never seen this triangle method before.

    • @HowToGYST
      @HowToGYST  Před 6 lety

    Laura, if you haven’t found out yet, you can buy sheets - bottoms and tops - separately, not always in sets. And duvet covers can be found with good google search tools 🤣. Buying single sheets tends to be more expensive though unsure why. I feel much better knowing I’m not alone in the - no top sheets - debate. I fold by method #2, only owning two bottoms - one to use, one spare 😄

    • @HowToGYST
      @HowToGYST  Před 6 lety

      I use method 2 for guest sheets. If it's good enough for Martha Stewart... 😂 I'll keep an eye out for separates! Duvet covers so far have been disappointingly plain.

    Very useful! Thanks. Hmmmm...I notice you have no curtains or drapes. I have not found any I like since we moved. I kind of like the effect of having none. Do you think guests would look askance at us having shades only in the bedrooms? Seems easier, cleaner to go without any. Your thoughts, please!

    • @HowToGYST
      @HowToGYST  Před 6 lety

      This is a rental so we really didn't have a choice but I think they're perfectly fine. Your home is for you, not your guests. Anyone who wasn't happy with the shades in our house would be welcome to hang a sheet or stay elsewhere.
      I will say, though, that I wouldn't consider them a cleaner option. Ours get terribly dusty.

    When I worked in a hospital, the orderlies had a system of folding so that when you changed the sheets and put on the new ones, you never had to shake the sheet up into the air (disturbing dust and germs). You simply put the sheet in the middle of the bed and unfolded it and voila! The ends of the sheet aligned with the ends of the bed and all you had to do was wrap the corners. Do you know this method of folding? I sure would like to learn it.

    Just a suggestion but I find it easier to have a pint of Guinness before I start.

    ooo ... roll it into a ball and throw it in the closet. I hadn't thought of that one. That sounds the easiest, but I probably start doing the first method. The second method is too complicated.

      The "roll it into a ball" method is great if you have a basket. Then you can't even see it. 😂

    My brain is weird. I can build a computer, work on a car, and properly format formulas in Excel, but I revert to 2 year old status with fitted sheets. I'll go with simpleton version #1 please. Thank you!

    I've been doing the second method for years since I saw my Mum fold the sheets when I was 10.
    I still fold them like that. I just can't help it.

      No, a sheet for a twin bed. But would definitely work for a cot sheet too. 🙂

    "go back straight to bed". that means you have only one fitted sheet in your home?!? no other color or different sheet in your closet?:-D

    Or, do it as I do: ball it up, shove it in the sham with the other sham. :) Folding sheets serves no purpose on my life, on the other hand, organizing socks by type and pairing them up does.

      I was looking for a word for it and all it came was "fronha", I don't think sham is the first one I would use, but it was what I could find. Sometimes I am looking for a word in Portuguese and all I can find is English too. By the way, what is that you say in welsh at the end of the videos?

    The 2nd method is complete horseshit with a king size sheet that isn’t somewhat stiff. Good luck lining up those two corners magically, if it was that easy the first two corners wouldn’t need to be manually aligned. Harry Potter level nonsense.

    • @HowToGYST
      @HowToGYST  Před rokem

      I use the second method on our king size sheet just fine. 🪄😉
