    This is my very first time using double crochet on a project - I'm really pleased with the overall project so far as a beginning one, it's a lace-up tube top with a solid bust area (basically just one big wide single crochet rectangle) and an underbust area made up of this lace. The two best parts of this project are that it laces up, so it isn't fussy with sizing, and that the first couple rows actually benefit from being a little too tight (a common mistake when starting crochet, as I discovered for myself), since those rows are the very top of the shirt and benefit from being tighter than the rest of the bust.

    Like this pattern. Made a headband with it.
    Started off with a chain less HDC but to finish end off with a straight edge I did the following:
    Row 1: I chained 3 & DC’d into same stitch, chain 2 & SC into the fan chain , chain 2, (DC ch2 DC) into the v stitch, chain 2 & SC into the fan chain and repeat until the double crochet end where you single crochet into then chain 2
    Row 2: HDC into the top of each stitch & HDC 2x (twice) into each chain and you should have a straight edge.
    Of course you can use single crochet etc, instead of the half double crochet.

    • @lieanefraser-simpson6565
      @lieanefraser-simpson6565 Před 6 měsíci

      Couldn’t edit but in Row 1 the beginning & end are double crochet as per previous rows.

      Hi Tracie, I didn’t see this color on Amazon today, but hopefully it comes back on there. It’s a wonderful yarn to work with. I’ve been making lots of stuff with it from hats to pocket shawls.
      I’m actually not formally trained in anything, but I have three younger brothers so that probably helped me learn to teach 😍😁
      Merry Christmas to you and yours!! ❤️❄️🎄🎁

    Jonna, this is such a great tutorial and me being a beginner I think I can do this! I wanted to ask you if I wanted to do a rectangular shawl and needed it to fit someone who is 2XL or 3XL any idea on how many chains for the foundation row? Thank you and Happy Holidays!

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi Elsa,
      First I would decide what direction you want the stitches to be. >> or ^^
      If you make the chain for as long as the wrap would be then your rows would determine the width of it.
      If you make a chain the width of the shawl then your rows would determine the length of the shawl.
      Hope this isn’t more confusing.
      Use a tape measure decide on size then chain that many or a few extra to start.
      Have fun making your shawl! It will be beautiful! Thank you for watching and commenting.

      @@elsavillalpando4396 One way will not be quicker than the other, they will both take the same amount of time to make, however, if you make the pattern going >> this way the rows will be shorter, and you will feel the project building faster because you get through the rows quicker.

      I only made a sample. But I would think for a nice sized throw you would use about 1200-1800yards.

      Just snip your yarn at the end of the row and pull the tail through the last loop on your hook.

    Thank you so much for your tutorials. I am new to crochet. Is it possible to use this pattern starting off with a magic circle going into a square and then just going round to make a lovely big shawl. I always seem to a different tension when I start and changes as I move along.
    I will really appreciate your assistance. Blessings Carlene

      I leave mine with a the ripple edge. Or you can chain and single crochet into each peak to mimic the first row.
