  • I'm pruning my Black Spruce that Jonathon gave me, to the tight conical form that you would typically see in nature. This tree will eventually be a medium to large tree in the future.
    Tom sends me some cool gifts and I check in on my tropical trees that are still out in the greenhouses.
    Check out Tom's CZcams channel "Grow and Clip Bonsai for Seniors" here....

    Love the smell of Spruce... back home when I was a kid, Spruce was the only tree available as Christmas tree. So the smell of the fresh Spruce brings out all the good memories from that time...enjoy working on Spruces for that reason...

    Its easier to see the tree detail in your old studio with the black tarp as a background, but as its snowing the best place to film is in the new green house. Great intro footage.

    Strange how your summer warm days were longer than ours, but autumn so short and you already got the first snow.
    Here in Latvia we will need to wait 1 more month for our snow

    • @OliverJazzz
      @OliverJazzz Před 2 lety

      I've wondered the same (from Southern Finland), their continental climate obviously has more clear cut seasons compared to ours, even if the area seems to be a bit warmer than Finland - especially during summer. Must be the Gulf stream and the Baltic toning down our climate.

    Blown away by your snowy morning intro. The music really brings that magical feeling of transformation and mystery to the intro. Also, the contrast between the lush greenery inside the greenhouse and snowy winter outside, really does it for me. Beautiful edit.

    Aww... Snow makes things in your backyard extra beautiful! Even the new greenhouse looks extra cute! 😍
    I live too close to the sea, so we might or might not have snow in January, due to the global warming.
    Nice work on the spruce, looks like the "candle" spruce we have up north!

    Really a radical change in weather, as mentioned on the title of the video. And it's more impressive for me, here in Brazil, where we are moving in direction to summer now. Looks like it will be a looong winter. Very beautiful shots on start, with an excelent edition and soundtrack. Congratulations, Nigel!

    Great video Nigel ! Wow sudden weather change , finally the warmth is here and everything is responding , all but my lazy oak is budding out ( hope he made it through the winter - he’s my little fighter ) , I think if I got some freebies I’d be a bit braver with pruning , I absolutely love how much you obviously love your new greenhouse , it’s written all over your face 😍

  • @grahammorris1997
    @grahammorris1997 Před 2 lety

    I understand that maintaining a "constant"temperature is an important factor. Plants don't like large sudden fluctuations in temperature. Have you considered putting a sheet of clear plastic across the greenhouse ,where the apex meets the vertical walls of the greenhouse. This will create an air pocket between the roof and the sheet to stabilise the heat loss through the roof. I understand this is a technique Mr. Kimura employs in his "greenhouses".

    It’s probably my inexperience but I don’t know if I could resist chopping that back to eliminate the bare trunk 2/3 up the tree. Are you expecting that to back bud there? Thanks, keep growing

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello Matt, I'm hoping it back buds, but if it doesn't I'm OK with that, many of the Black Spruce have bare spots on the trunk in nature and then have the arrow head on top. Either way, it will suits the Black Spruce style!
