Steve Rogers is a "man out of time." He is one of "The Greatest Generation" adjusting to a time when he has almost no contemporaries that share his life experiences and values. Captain America is my favorite because STEVE ROGERS is my favorite. He was a hero BEFORE he became "super."

"I had a date". is one of my favourite last lines of any movie. Because, of course, he had a date with Peggy. But he is now a man out of time. His date was the forties, and now he doesn't have that. It's very clever.

28:24 The villain's name is Red Skull. They did actually say that a few times. I'm also surprised they didn't recognize the actor as the one who played Agent Smith in the Matrix films considering they keep mocking Agent Coulson with that nickname.
Two fun facts they may have missed:
    1) This isn't the first time we've encountered super soldiers. Bruce Banner was experimenting with trying to recreate it (which is how he became the Hulk) and Blonsky/Abomination was given an experimental dosage which we saw in action in the university battle.
    2) That town that Red Skull attacks at the beginning is the same town the Frost Giants attacked in Thor. Tonsberg just has this connection to Asgard but that also seems to give it the worst luck.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire Před 3 lety +1

The thing about Banner also is he didn't know he was trying to recreate the Super Soldier Serum, he thought he was working on a radiation protection serum.

Great video as usual. Just some things:
The government found him in the present day, and thawed him out as soon as they found him.
The villain, Red Skull, is one of Captain America's biggest villains from the Comics. The creators of these Marvel movies have to try and make all the comic characters look as realistic as possible, and make it where they don't look too out of place in todays world, and still stay true to what they originally looked like. That's why Red Skull looks like he does.
And lastly, you didn't include the post credit scene 😭😅

Considering the process he was going through, it is essential to have a dauntless volunteer. The few times when the entire power supply was used and lights dimmed were executions by electric chair. he was volunteering for two potential forms of execution, second being lethal injection. The scientists were going to stop when he started to scream, but he refused to yield. In the follow-up, he risked being shot to death and drowning.
In the novelization, when the kid was thrown off of the pier and he told Cap that he could swim, Steve was grateful because he had never learned to swim. Then, there is a getaway boat. Nope, a submarine. He just dove in and charged after. lol.

The forms used at enlistment physical exams had several classifications.
1A was the highest classification. It meant that the subject was 100% physically fit and could be inducted immediately.
4F was the absolute lower end of the scale. It meant that an inductee had so many physical problems that probably couldn't pass Boot Camp without dying. Even if they made it, they'd be a complete liability in combat and would die.
Steve's conditions absolutely merited a 4F. Dr. Erskine re-classifying him was solely to get what Erskine perceived as an unusually good man into the program.

Hydra and the Red Skull were the major villains of the WWII era. The growth of Captain America and how he leads the Avengers is pretty much the entire first ten years of marvel.

One thing about The Red Skull, Johann Schmidtt's appearance is he is the ultimate example of what Dr. Erskine told Steve. Good becomes Great. Bad becomes Worse. The Super Soldier Serum did that to his face because it showed what was actually inside.

The reason Red Skull got peeved about the Brooklyn line is because he believes they're better than others, so when Steve goes "Nah, I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" that gets him angry. He thinks Steve is wasting his potential (because world domination and mass murder is *so* much better apparently...).

1A meant "eligible for any service", no restrictions. The opposite of the 4F he was given by the other doctor, which meant "unfit for any service", which included even war industry labor as a civilian wormer.

I'm sorry to do this to the comments section, but as soon as Lacey said "daddy Stark" Something popped into my head, and now I must share it with you all
Daddy Stark doo doo doo doo doo doo
daddy Stark doo doo doo doo doo doo
daddy Stark doo doo doo doo doo doo
    daddy Stark
[I'm so sorry! I've go a now 5 year old goddaughter, forgive me for bringing this musical horror upon you all]
    Steve: "Plant and, kaboom."
    [on screen explosion]
Lacey: "That was quite a kaboom."
Me: "Yes, but it wasn't [Best Marvin the Martian impression] 'an Earth shattering kaboom' "
Captain America: "Right now I'm in the middle of nowhere, if I wait any longer a lot of people are gonna die."
    Lacey: "So crash in Antarctica"
Me: "He's somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean in the Northern Hemisphere, you know Antarctica is that continent surrounding the south pole? That'd be a long 'not waiting' to get there. Iceland and Greenland are much closer. (and Greenland is actually icier than Iceland BTW) but what's shown on the display looks like possibly part of Newfoundland, which is Canada, which would be in line with his course if the target was the Eastern United States launched from anywhere north of the German/Switzerland border." Just sayin'
1940+70 = 2010, so if he went into the ice in 1943, and almost 70 being say 67 years, would still be 2010. So bottom line, Captain America woke up 2008-2012 (allowing for the variance of when he went into the ice which was after May 1941, up to 1943 (your latest date guess) and "almost 70 years" being 67-69 years, the movie released in 2011... Personally, I was a teenager in the later 1980s and if I were to flash forward from 1988 to 2010 I'd have a massive culture shock, and that's only skipping 22 years.

As someone who loves these reactions...I'm so happy Steve ejoyed this as much as he did. BUT...I feel Lacey in that the villain looked...meh. I was surprised at the beginning of this vid when you said that people were saying this is one of the better Marvel movies because in my humble opinion I would rank, "The First Avenger", at near the bottom of the my list of Marvel movies.
If this is where the bar is set...can't wait for more to come!

Yohan Schmitt aka John Smith aka The Red Skull
And the Super Soldier Serum just enhances what you already have. So he's like the mega version of himself. Unfortunately, that also happened to the Red Skull.

The villain is simply called the Red Skull, and he's been Captain America main antagosnist (even in the other Captain America movies of the 80's). The 'evil scientist', Arnim Zola, is as brilliant as Tony Stark in the comics, and the 'flying wing' design of the big flyer is not made to be stealthy per say but the shape helped (it would still stick out a a really big plane on radar). One final nod; Steve wears Converse shoes in the present to train as they were invented in the 30's!

In 1940 the US instituted its first peacetime draft as a preparedness measure. All eligible candidates were given physicals and screened by local draft boards; there were a number of categories (dealing with deferments for war work, sole sons of a dependent mother, etc) the ones that matter here are 1A- fit for service either as a volunteer or into the draft pool and 4F- physically unfit to serve even as a volunteer.
