Mad Max is an action-adventure video game based on the Mad Max franchise. Developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2015. Feral Interactive published the game's macOS and Linux versions. In the game, players control Max Rockatansky as he progresses through the wasteland building a vehicle, the "Magnum Opus", to do battle with a gang of raiders, led by Scabrous Scrotus, and to reach the storied "Plains of Silence", where he hopes to find peace. Mad Max emphasizes vehicular combat, in which players can use weapon and armor upgrades on their car to fight enemies. It is set in an open post-apocalyptic wasteland consisting of deserts, canyons, and caves.

Yes , do the critique !!
damn that's a serious threat
The first 3 games I had for Xbox one madmax just cause 3 and resident evil 5 this game deserves a sequel and it's cannon to the mad max story so that's automatically amazing
Hi
I have played MAD MAX in February this year first time after 8 years , my first adventure was fail , as there came out few good games and I kinda forgot about that game , and when I play 2023 at first game was 6/10 , then after a bit game got to 8/10 ... just to fall to 6/10 after I finnish it , I have spend around 30h with that game but 10h was waste of time , as ending sucks , I have play to do all in game when I play it , but after terrible storry writting , irritating 2 fights with that chick that was pasanger at the race , and later freak (I forgot what was his name) , they fought very diffrent that anybody else in game , and game cheated at that fights freak fight tak4e literally 20min for me after that I just wanted end game as fast I could , I played I can forget , I will never play it again .
What a massively underrated gem. I think another factor working against it was lukewarm critical reception upon release, which to me was baffling.
Especially IGN
@@jeffrymceden4423 Dude, IGN is so unfair with their reviews and they always give the biggest companies at least 8 or 9’s no matter how shitty and they slander some games for political reasons. They are NOT a reliable videogame review or news outlet.
It also didn't help that MGSV released the same day. I was so hyped for MGSV but in the end I enjoyed this way more.
I agree...im a HUGE Road warrior fan and didn't even bother giving this a chance...until about a week ago. And I absolutely am addicted to it!!
Yeah, it's a fantastic game.
Had a lot of fun.
8 years ago and this game still looks insane
My little brother is a hardcore gamer, im not lol he saw me playing this game back in 2019 and i remember him complimenting the graphics and sounds saying how it looked pretty damn good for a game launched in 2015
It looks better than Starfield
Nah 8 years that’s when Witcher 3 came out .this looks decent but comparing to Witcher 3 this is just like a can of little bit everything mixed up
@@jamesmcgill3268 Witcher 3 mid asf
@@jamesmcgill3268this game gas better graphics
It’s simple, it was a one off movie tie in game that no one expected to be good but it turned out to be amazing
Totally. I pre-ordered it after seeing some cool looking gameplay but even I thought it would be one of those 6/10 mid games and it turned into one of my absolute favorites.
@@Ward413how are the car fights?
Are they good or do they get tedious?
@@TheScepticalThinker1 Really good. The vehicle explosions are unrivaled; burning tires, metal shavings, axle and suspension parts, etc all go flying. Plus the actual fire ball itself looks sick. It actually looks like a petrol explosion with thick black smoke. If you do get tired of it you don’t have to engage the convoys which is where the most intense of the vehicle combat occurs. Exploration is the funnest part for me, followed by the combat and car physics. You can even use a first person view/cam while driving and it’s done correctly with a nice wide FOV. It looks sweet looking down your hood with the supercharger sticking out of it.
Plus it released on the same day as Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
I mean even back then it felt like another cookie cutter open world with Arkham combat, tower checkpoints and unnecessary crafting systems.
I think nowadays it feels almost refreshing because the map isn't ridiculously large and bloated to last forever, and the progression isn't artificially stretched to incentivize buying XP boosts and other microtransactions.
This isn't a hidden gem, it's just a mid but inoffensive open world that shines now that most AAA games are worse than mid
I'm really sad this game didn't get more love. I loved every second of it. I'll be mad that this and day's gone will never see a sequel.
Dyas gone could probably get a sequel in the far future for sure since it did sell well
@@stylie473joker5yeah it did sell well but sony just trashed it FOR NO REASON, really good game with the best scene of all time imo of a song in the background in a game and good story overall just bit too long, definitely good
Yeah We finally know why its because sony loves to get 85+ metacritic score lol and days gone was a 71 so they hate their games being scored average scores @@unknownuser-gp6kr
Ive played days gone like 4 times now since my 1st playthrough in 2020.. Love the story.. Survival mode is great
With mods its even better @@johnnyflannigan136
Deserves a sequel, such a hidden gem of a game, if it does get a sequel I’d want a Tom Hardy and Mel Gibson skin 🙏
George Miller has been in legal action with WB since before Fury Road regarding video game rights. Hence no sequel.
There's a DLC to this game that has Max's classic shotgun and jacket from the Mel Gibson movies
@@methoverdose4551 I don’t think that’s dlc, pretty sure you unlock that by beating the game
@@coreycasciano3255 Maybe, I don't really know lol
@methoverdose4551 Yeah it's an award for beating the base game along with the classic V8 interceptor
I love this game. It really is a hidden gem. Leveling up and upgrading the car is a lot of fun. Love the exploration, and so many achievements to complete.
I'd love a follow up game, but only if it can be done right, like this was.
Yep, great game. Really scratched an itch for me. Usually don’t like open world games , but loved this.
I thought the game was going to be so boring. I was so wrong. This is one of the most fun games I've played. And I think the reason behind it is the car combat and explosions. So good.
Best fire animations in any game ever.
I think people just expect games adapted from film IPs like this to be awful due to the sheer number of failed releases in the past. A shame considering the number of people that missed out on this game based on that perception.
A Mad Max sequel game with the nemesis system for different crazies would be a dream
Considering a new mad max movie is coming out soon I have high hopes for a new mad max game
True
Maybe something like the Shadow of War system with Mad Max?
Surprisingly, I myself am playing it right now for the first time. Quite an underrated game honestly.
Lol, so am I!
Definitely take your time with it, I found that it’s quite easy to get burned out on it if you try to grind a lot of the side content too quickly. But the combat is so addicting that it can often make up for it.
Bro same
It is fun initially, but the map is filled with similar quests all over so it gets kinda repetitive but still for a game that looks so vast and beutiful it sure runs smooth as hell.
gotta get that v8 baby
I hope a sequel gets made, and their nemesis system would be perfect.
Same I wanna see it made in Unreal Engine 5. If that happens maybe they could add Furiousa and you could customize her like you did with Max. Also the cars being customized too
Ah men you just created a need for me
Can you even imagine having nemesis drivers that shout hilariously corny/edgy things when they show up? We're talking about the best game ever made here.
Are you saying this mixed with Shadow of Mordor/War?
@@nathaniel3867bro you’re making me want that game bro cause I’m playing thru mad max now and it’s amazing
Easily my favourite game of all time. I’ve been a Mad Max nut since I was a kid so this was pretty much a love letter to me. Really needs a sequel.
Your FAVORITE game of all time???
Dude c'mon now
@@GORILLA_PIMPwell this is his opinion, for me the goat is Dota 2 because I had so many good memories that I literally can’t replace with other game
Mad max definitely influenced my tastes in pop culture. This game knocked it out of the park.
For an empty, destroyed world it sure as life within it’s world. Such a underrated game, I think I speak for everyone when I say we’d love to a critique on this. 😊
8 years, god I'm old
I guess i'm old too
8 years old is young yall
If you think that makes you feel old, think about those of us who remember when the nearest you could get to a "mad max computer game" was the arcade game Spy Hunter.
@@freakygoblin3068 I remember that game. There was also a game called Outlander I can't remember if it was on the Sega Megadrive or Nintendo.
Unless you clearly remember playing Duke Nukem 3d on your pc back in ‘96… you’re not even starting to get old lol
If they ever did make a sequel, which I really hope they do sometime. I hope they use their nemesis system as I think it would work so well in the mad max universe, and give it a wonderful spice to an already great game. I mean if they're going to patent their system, they better damn well use it.
Nope. They patented the thing and said “fuck you” to the videogame industry by never using or letting anyone else use it again apparently. Pricks.
Hell yes this is a great idea
I just fucking mentioned the Nemesis system before scrolling down to this comment. Spot on.
...Avalanche didn't make the Nemesis system...
@@MorshuGaming Warner bros has a patent on it, this game was published by Warner Brothers so they can implement the nemesis system in a possible future installment or perhaps another game
Who’s here after the Mad Max Furiousa Furiosa sequel
One of the greatest movies I've ever seen
Criminally underrated game... It's such a great game. Sad that it didn't get more recognition
Definitely would love to watch a critique or retrospective on this game!
IGN would be like "too much sand".
I’d recommend watching Whitelight’s video on it, he does really in depth examinations of games. It’s an interesting watch if you’ve got the time.
The story is deep as fck, the amount of pain Max goes trough is heartbreaking...The combat is also insane, both hand to hand and car to car combat feels amazing, i cant recommend it enough
Dude c'mon now you way over exaggerating
It's a good game not great
@@GORILLA_PIMP It's great and more wym
@@BeenFuckinUpMyLifeNoJoke
Naw i just beat it recently and to say it's a GREAT game is simply not accurate
It has WAY too many issues that keep it from being great
It's a GOOD game though
Solid 8 outta 10
Timeless classic. I get the chills even as that haunting WarnerBros intro with the lettering fading away starts up (it somehow captures the feel of the game perfectly even before you've loaded the title screen).
one thing that i really enjoyed with this game is the sidemissions where you collect parts for diffrent stations of a base so that everytime you return you can restock you supplies. But it also impacted the base looks and the npcs attitude against you. This made the progression feel more real and rewarding instead of you just caring for yourself.
I absolutely love this game. The gameplay itself gets a little repetitive by the end, but the unbelievable world that they build, the visuals, the atmosphere they create, keeps me coming back time and time again. I have beaten it at least four times, I will probably be playing it until I die!
Yeah, the game is just awesome :)
And then you’ll live again!
Those are rookie numbers! I'm at around 10-12! In all seriousness tho, the game is just incredible and I love it to the core, thus playing it at least once per year from the time it came out
4 times????
Dude get a grip on yourself
It's not THAT good
@@JellyBean-ed2uq
10 times whaaaaaaaaa????
Literally picked this up 2 weeks ago and been having a blast with it. Really underrated gem
Be sure not to fast travel too much. That’s half the fun and you could miss neat stuff sometimes too.
Mad Max is one of the few great video game movie adaptations. The car just sitting and idling, engine slowly rumbling and unburnt fuel dripping from the tailpipe... It's a mad max fan's dream. Badass in that perfect retro way.
I didn't know that this game existed until recently on PlayStation Store. I bought it because it was priced cheaply. I have been playing it for 2 weeks now and can not get enough of it. A real gem, fun to play, so much open-world with sooo many great game mechanics. Plays great for being out soo long. Love it ❤
I just played this game last week. And it still holds up, for me anyway. Awesome and a truly underrated game. Kept me more interested than Gotham Knights, and yeah, this is an 8 year old game, that takes place in a desert. Lol
Lmao they made the desert freaking more interesting than Gotham...damn lol
I would love a deep dive into Mad Max. I absolutely love your content Luke. I just wanted to say thank you I’ve listened to all of your critiques on my way to and from work. Keep being awesome my dude.
Check out Jake Baldino, he's a big fan as well
Am i the ONLY one who search's this game every month to see if someone posts a new video on it?
They usually get recommended to me
I think one of the more important part of car modification is that how easy it is to change, you don't need to go to a garage or even stop just change parts on the fly, which means you dont have to drive a hunk of metal all the time, make your car a speedster for travel, find a battle? On the fly change to fight mode
Full critique, please. I'll definitely watch the whole thing!
Same here
“It’s like an RPG but for cars”
…so it’s a CARPG
I see what you did there…
2 things that this game was missing, more guns and motorcycles but the game is still a masterpiece
I still come back to this all the time.. love it.. need another with updated graphics and bigger maps
Love that you brought some focus and your excellent critical analysis back to this unerrated gem! Well done, Luke!
I can’t believe 2015 was 8 years ago. I watched a play-through when it first came out while I was in 7th grade. I’ve been meaning to play it since.
I can't believe you were in 7th grade in 2015. Stay young as long as you can.
Back When We Couldn’t Afford Every Game As Kids 😭
This sat on my Steam backlogs forever, and it was actually one of the first games I played on my Steam Deck when I got it. It played amazingly well.
I loved how every single loot spot had it's own little story told by the land or what's was there or scenery etc. I also liked how the car was neccessary for survival, transport and combat.
OMG YES. Literally one of my most favorite games of all time, and also one of the most underrated games of all time
Days gone came to my mind too. Instead of car, bike, players loved it, reviewers hated it.
Would love a full critique, Luke! Love this game, and I’ve intended to go back to it for the longest time, this video might finally tip me over the edge. What an absolute gem.
I played this a few years after release, and it was actually really good. I spent a lot of time in photography mode, too, and the combat felt really heavy and impactful
Been playing this for the last two months, such a great gem, love finding these type.
Mad max was such a fresh take on the usual clutter filled open world genre, it deserves a sequel with the same solid foundation and passion put in because it's an underrated gem
Photo mode was great too. This reminds me how much I want to replay this great game, which often looked stunning, too.
I started playing this again a few weeks ago. Such a great game.
I've told many friends it's worth playing. Other than some things feeling a little repetitive, it was a phenomenal experiences. I never expected a Mad Max story to tug at my heart.
10:00 the max controls are meant to mirror the vehicle, and thematically is consistent with the myth and messaging of max in the wastelands, of the driver becoming one with the machine
Definitely would love to see a long form video reviewing the game. I remember playing it when it came out and going to school to talk with a friend about the progress we had made and which engine upgrade we were at. Felt like everyone knew about it.
I really felt like the car itself was a character while I played this, definitely my favorite element of the whole experience. I love games that give you a vehicle or some kind of conveyance that has it's own limits and is separate from the player character. I was a huge fan of the Master Cycle Zero in BOTW as well, the moment I beat the game I started a master mode save but modded the bike to be available from the very start! I remember Xenogears as another game that blew me away as a young'un because you could hop in/out of your mechs any time inside AND outside of battle and were sometimes required to in order to progress or find secrets. Hell, I'd beeline for Epona as soon as you turn into an adult in OoT.
Absolutely love this game. Should have gotten DLC and sequels/spinoffs. The "DLC" option in the main menu is now just a cruel joke, a twisting of the dagger.
I think the car is considered a character in this game. I'm actually playing it right this minute and the car, the Magnum Opus, has an in-game character bio.
Mad Max was the first game I played on my PS5. As a big gear head, I agree that there’s a lot to appreciate here.
The cut scene opener of Mad Max is perfect. Within fewer than 5 minutes you know who your hero is, what he’s lost, what he wants, who his enemy is, what the world will be like and even how you will go about fighting your way through it! You’re chomping at the bit to get going and breathless at the high octane, high concept, high as a kite ultra violent kick start. And it doesn’t go down hill at all! F’kin’ loved that game!
About once a year I play MGS5 and Mad Max all the way through. One of my favorite days in my gaming history was the day this game and mgs5 came out. What a day for video games. MGS5 got my attention first naturally being a huge fan but man it is criminal how overlooked Mad Max was.
Yes! Please do a full critique.
An underrated gem!
I swear to this day this is the only game I could actually taste meaning, they did such a good job with the visuals an art concepts, all the rust, an dusty atmospheres, that throughout the entire play through, I was either smelling or tasting like rusted metal or dusty environments, an no other game has have me that experience
Yes! I recently watched the Mel Gibson's Mad Maxs' with the late T. Turner in one of them . Nostalgia. This game has really beautiful atmosphere and sound design. Even the soundtracks in the menu are notable. Here's a lil' reference about it for you Luke. The human hand decal in the car's visual customization menu, is the same on the hunched back of Max's companion. Chumbucket.
This game getting a sequel would have been so fucking good. I can't imagine how much time was spent building the incredible systems and physics for the game only for all of it to never really get re-used meaningfully. A sequel with greater event and objective variety would have been so fucking stellar!
I always felt like I was one of the only guys who bought and loved this game back in 2015. Happy people finally acknowledge its existence these days. TOOK long enough.
Love this game. I don't really enjoy video games as much as I used to tbh but I was having a lot of fun replaying this one a few months ago. Please make a big video on this game. It deserves all the love it can get.
Stop watching videos of games and start playing 😅
I have played this game for ages and i love the open world apocalyptic feel, with the cars and combat. I remember buying the game wanting to drive the interceptor. I really do hope that this game gets some form of sequel or updates with more cars, or a DLC of sorts. I feel it could bring players back to the game.
As many others have already said, this game is extremely underrated. This game so features some of the best driving mechanics and vehicle combat.
I love Luke’s channel and he’s right to retrospectively look back on this game fondly.!
I love also ACG walk through the game analytics Luke and carrick ACG have a passion for video games that’s enjoyable educational and the presentation is top draw 👍
A great game!!! One of the most underrated games in the modern era!!! Wish they will make a second one because the Mad Max world is so rich!!!
As someone who grew up watching the mad max movies with their dad, this game was just amazing fun from start to finish. Even if its the only mad max game we'll ever get, I'm just happy we got to play in that world atleast once as I've always yearned to interact with the mad max universe in some way. To top it off its even better that the game by itself was a banger
Convoys! You should do another videos on convoys in Mad Max! I have not seen any other game do anything even close to what Mad Max does with convoys. It is unique, intense, glorious and utterly breathtaking, especially in the mid game, before Max gets the explosive harpoon, after that convoys are a lot less challenging. The only other mechanic that can compare to fighting convoys in Mad Max is, in my opinion, fighting hordes in Days Gone. If you know of more intense gameplay experiences like that in games please make a video about it!
I loved playing that game. Even now I will reload the game and start a new run.
I just started playing this again this week after years as well. Amazing game, so beautiful. Came out at the wrong time. Four months after the film and the same time as MGS V and a few other hot titles.
I've just bought it and I'm already completely addicted. I love the customization system. The combat system is like the Arkham series, although a bit simpler. It is as enjoyable. Also, the voice acting is top tier. I also want to add that Rage 2 is sort of a mix of this game and DOOM, and also should be given a shot. I love both games.
I think it’s scummy that they had a trophy connected to the server but did nothing about it when they shut them down and made it unattainable unless you completed the requirement beforehand.
Yep complete BS
It's criminal that this game wasn't the talk of the gaming world. Really great game. End game gets a tad bit tedious with the wave after wave of the same enemies but it's a must play.
That game was freaking amazing, im going to start playing it again now due to this video. PLEASE do a full video on this!!!!!
Game is seriously one of my all time favorites. The car combat and driving just feels so good and the fighting is crunchy and brutal. And jfc those skyboxes still look incredible! That’s it, downloading this again tonight 😂
this was my Fallout New Vegas, almost a decade after, i hope the furiosa tv series will drum up more attention so we get another Mad Max game.
One of my favourite games of all time! Full critique would be fantastic!
I played 1 hour of Mad Max and got distracted by other things at the time. I remember it being a pretty cool game. I’m gonna give it some love eventually.
some love juice
@@eccer just spit it right into the intake
The thing I had to get over when playing this game was Chumbucket. I don't find him to be an NPC I particularly enjoy hanging out with. It's like having Gollum as a sidekick, but without any of the charm.
Bought this game last month, playing it non stop since. This is the MOST OPTIMIZED PC version of the game I've ever seen. Runs maxed out on my 3050 & i5 11th gen, on 1080p 90+ FPS smooth gameplay. What a game, WHAT A LOVELY GAME!!
I got mad max and metal gear 5 the same day and decided to play mad max first (because I knew mgs5 was a long game) and holy shit I was blown away by how good mad max was! Highly recommend
One of those games that went under the radar such a good game.
This game Really really needs a sequel. Need to be able to switch between max and furiosa
Didn’t hear of this game until July this year (2023) and it literally revived the feeling I use to get playing games. I 100% it in 3 and a half weeks and now I’m sad cause I don’t know what to play again
Would love a long form critique of this
I thought Days Gone was a repetitive game, till i tried Mad Max. This game is rally through the desert simulator nothing else.
I loved this game, especially as a prequel to Fury Road. They even brought in the game's main villain, Scrotus, in the new movie, Furiosa.
This Mad Max game, man, that random sandstorm alone made for some of the most epic gaming moments I've ever had, especially if it happened to come over during a convoy battle. I never seen anything like it ever again in games. Why people thought finding 900 literal pieces of shit are what open-world games really needed?
This is one of those games where it's hard to exactly put your finger on why it's so enjoyable. I think the atmosphere has a lot to do with it though - the environment is so crushingly lonely and reflective.
Just started playing this on my PC the other day. I'm loving it so far. Very overlooked indeed. The game has elements and aspects to it that remind me of GTA, Fallout, Uncharted, and the Batman Arkham series. It's like a hybrid of all 4 but Mad Max style.
Played it for the first time I guess over a year ago now, can’t believe I never played it before that. Looked at it in the store 100x never gave it a shot. I still play it to 100% it
The melee combat is so satisfying in this game
Of which NONE is shown in this video. Which is completely bizarre. Not sure why he did it. Yeah the vehicle aspect of the game and customization of it is huge but.....you're on foot a ton too and thats just as big a part of the game. But zero footage of any melee combat or ranged combat or anything like that. Just....weird.
The thing i hate most, im just getting back into it now too is that when on foot the enemies take forever before finally getting out to fist fight you. You spend 5 minutes of dodging which is stupid but part of the game
I'm seeing a little more coverage of this game recently and I'm all for it, I really enjoyed this game and still have my original copy of it
I always feel sorry for Chumbucket...
I've been playing this for the past six months and taking my time to get all the collectible stuff. It's got a lot of replay value (to me, anyway) and the setting is really beautiful. They really did a fantastic job with the desert and the car battles are a lot of fun. The story was decent considering the Mad Max series has never been known for its story lol. My only issue with the game is you can't send scrap gatherers out anymore since the rng for it was handled by a server. Still-if you're like me and love the car combat you'll gather a ridiculous amount of scrap in no time. It really deserved to be a sequel. I think what would have made it a lot more appealing is if they'd had an enemy system like the LotR Shadow of War, etc games. They could have done a lot more with it but of course, Warner Brothers doesn't give a shit about Mad Max and would rather focus on cash cows like Harry Potter.
This is probably the only very large open world game aside from Elden Ring I actually enjoyed the combat was designed and handled very well. I remember pulling an all nighter exploring every nook and cranny the game had to offer.
I recently started playing this and I’m having a blast. Things to consider for a good sequel imo:
-Spice up the missions and activities (repetitive camps, scavening, gets tiring)
-More car bodies and customization
-The nemesis system I keep hearing about
-Rework some useless controls like the Jump Button (console)
Played through this for the first time a few months ago. Didn't really know what to expect going in, but I absolutely loved it. So glad I decided to take a flyer on it.
I remember playing this game over the summer break after my first year of uni. I was broke, living off of cans of sardines and condensed milk. My friends had gone home, I was in halls alone and feeling bitter about a break-up. Aside from doing burpees, looking for jobs, and taking long lonely hikes in the scorching heat, this game is what I occupied myself with. The bleak, sun-scorched landscapes littered with corpses and rusted-out vehicles, completely bereft of decency or humanity, it was like staring into my own soul. I felt like Mad Max, angry, jaded, tortured by past failures, driven mad by isolation.
I don't even like these types of cookie-cutter, open-world, Farcry rip-offs. This one was genuinely immersive. Driving through those endless deserts and experiencing its bizarre and disturbing post-apocalyptical cultures was a meditative experience. I just wish the combat had been deeper and more challenging. Also, I think they should have made the survival and crafting a much more significant, fleshed-out part of the game. I hope they make a sequel so they can get these things right. This game is by no means my favorite but it will always occupy a special place in my memory.
i honestly didnt mind the weird controls. they were refreshing the first time i played the game instead of any other games basic ass controls like the last one before it.
I'm currently playing Mad Max for the third time. One of the best games ever - it cleverly does one thing, but does it to absolute, glorious perfection.
This game was SO slept on 🤯
I watched all the Mad Max films over the last two days and then I realized there was a game.... Now I'm gonna play that tomorrow.
